  2. I am shocked with all the gloom in this thread. This is OREGON we're talking about here. Yeah... I know it starts with the same letter as real football teams like Ohio State or Oklahoma but it's OREGON! We're talking an unproven defense that can't stop a run...an unproven QB...a team with no tradition other than being Nike's free advertising bitch boy. Worst of all...they are in the PAC whatever number it is now! Any self respecting, hard nosed, grind it out football fan from flyover country should be confident that our corn fed, Midwestern farm boys will march into their house and kick those dope smoking hippies all the way off the side of the left coast. Hell...ain't Duck hunting one of our favorite pastimes out here? Nothing like blasting a defenseless Duck out of sky to make a guy feeling good. Now go out there...suck it up and grind that ball on the ground over and over and over, until their defense caves in like cheap toilet paper and their offense starts crying cuz they never get the ball so they can pose for their PAC 42, or whatever it is now, buddies in Los Angeles and the morons at ESPN have to try to figure out where Nebraska is so they can put it back on the college football map. Go Cyclo...uh...Huskers!

  3. Can you or one of the mods change the title of this topic? This is not UConn's take on Bob Diaco. It was written by some random UConn fan. As for my thoughts: Diaco isn't our head coach. We've discussed his past at length here. We know he's eccentric. Almost none of what was written applies to his job here.

  7. When Nebraska ran the ball frequently and effectively, and Tre Bryant got into a rhythm that lasted all four quarters, I thought "well that's one thing HuskerBoard won't be able to complain about." Man, I was wrong.

  8. Moiraine's right - this is just a fan's blog, no different than any post here on HuskerBoard about our coaches. Think of the complaints we heard about every coach since this board started - through the Callahan era, the Pelini era, now the Riley era. From time to time we go back and talk about the Solich era and the Osborne era, and universally we find something to bitch about. So this guy is a UConn fan, and he has problems with Diaco. Stop me if you've heard complaints like this before about Nebraska coaches right here on HuskerBoard: Diaco exhibited bad clock management in the Navy game. Ever heard anyone complain about bad clock management on HuskerBoard? Diaco created some fake rivalry that failed embarrassingly. This was all Diaco, and it was a disaster. I remember reading about this and thinking it was really stupid. It's funny the guy who did this ends up becoming our DC. Here at Nebraska, we're familiar with fake rivalries - we had the Bill McCartney era at Colorado and today we have the corporate trophies with Iowa & Wisconsin that none of the three fan bases want. Diaco played the wrong quarterback. This is the most common complaint about any coach, anywhere, any time, from any fan base. Ever. Diaco didn't hire Jerry Kill. There's a pretty compelling argument that UConn fired Diaco precisely because he didn't hire Jerry Kill and Rutgers did. Rutgers & UConn are former Big East rivals, so it's understandable they'd be upset if their former rival hired a guy they wanted. But remember, this blog was supposed to be about Diaco's "antics and lies," not (purportedly) an analysis of his hiring decisions. While this could be described as an "antic," it's no different than any other coaching decision, anywhere, ever. Just look at the wish lists we create here on HuskerBoard every time there's a vacancy, and all the complaints that erupt when we don't hire a guy we were never looking into. Remember when we didn't hire Ed Orgeron? This blog reads to me like the threads we get on HuskerBoard when Nebraska loses. You barely know the names of the people who create them, and you forget what they wrote when the thread inevitably gets locked.

  9. http://www.cornnation.com/2017/9/8/16257100/nebraska-huskers-football-oregon-ducks-five-reasons-win I believe this sums up my thoughts. Optimism is healthy for the football fan.

  11. I guess we'll see, but all of your "distance" talk shows a lot of ignorance about Nebraska's fanbase. If you want to argue that Oregon fans won't sell their tickets, that's an okay argument to make. Or you could even argue that maybe Nebraska's fans aren't as excited about their team as they were then. But nothing else you said matters at all. Also, keep in mind Nebraska hasn't played in Oregon since 1952, as far as I could see. That makes it even more likely that Nebraska fans will travel there. "Once in a lifetime" experience, etc. California on the other hand is basically like our 2nd home at this point with how many Holiday bowls we've played in. We don't get to Washington much but at least it had been < 20 years before our game there in 2010. Finally, speaking of Fresno... it would not be surprising if more fans went to the Oregon game than the Fresno State game, because Oregon is a much bigger and more important program than Fresno State.

  19. Agree with your assessment. When ASU was going score for score with NU, a DC doesn't keep it vanilla and "hope" his winning philosophy works.....

  22. Oregon was hot garbage last year and still had a ton of good athletes. They were almost dead last in the nation in defense. Why should a win over a bad FCS team all of a sudden erase the fact that this was a terrible team one year ago. Im not disputing that they may be better this year but I certainly don't think that has been confirmed based on one win over a trash team. Ark St. is no juggernaut but I'd wager they beat southern Utah by 30 or more. I wouldnt say im confident we will win but I would be more surprised if we got blown out then if we won. I think it will be a fairly close game

  23. Good article. Should help with any ASU depression hangover and is based on real factors not blind optimism. I'm excited for this game. It likely will determine my mood with this team for the remainder of the year so my fingers are crossed. Don't want to be like "those" other posters were last week. This fan thing is a lot more fun when you have hopes that haven't been squashed.

  24. I plan on BBQ'ing tomorrow and watching football. i'm stocked on bourbon, but went full redneck and bought some Yuengling light... in a can. Because why not! As for the wind, the local meteorologists think that if it keeps the current track, the hurricane force winds should be reduced substantially by the time it gets to us, so hopefully it does go right up the gut. The worst thing at this point, would be for it to track farther west and go up the coast. That would be bad.

  27. Lots of people are implying it with all their doom and gloom all over the forum. And this topic isn't really about confidence or overconfidence, despite the title. The OP said he doesn't understand how anyone could think Nebraska has a legitimate chance of winning. There is a huge chasm between thinking Nebraska has a legitimate chance of winning and feeling confident that Nebraska will win. People who think Nebraska doesn't have a legitimate chance of winning the game have either never watched college football or are masochists who like to wallow in their own misery (i.e. cry in their beer).

  30. The wall is just a distraction. The GOP needs to flip the page - several pages, actually - from the Obamacare repeal debacle. They convinced their base that this NEEDS to be done, it isn't going to get done, so the wall stuff flips the script. Saw this overnight. Some of the best advice on immigration I've seen in a while.
