  1. Time for some fun and hopefully a few laughs (until someone takes it too far) I'll start

  2. This, right here, is bulls#!t, and it speaks to the mindset of this team. You just got beat at home by a huge underdog. You have two choices: You can let doubt creep in or you can get pissed off and take it out on Rutgers. Riley doesn't talk about getting off the mat and pounding our next opponent, he talks about doubt. If that's the first thought in your head, I will postulate that you are not in the right frame of mind to lead this team.

  3. They're great teams to make you think you fixed a bunch of things that are still broken.

  6. The third week of Riley's third year. His first year was horrible, his second year ended horrible, and his third year is starting horrible. Do you see a trend?

  7. If Bielema gets anywhere near this program i will have to find another team to root for. I'd rather just fold the football program.

  8. Terry Pettit will be the next Nebraska coach to have a statue put up in his honor. He weighed in with his experiences about coaching troubles during his time at NU.

  9. I stand by Bo on his comments about SE “He’s a f------ lawyer who makes policies. That’s all he’s done since he’s been here: Hire people and make policies to cover his own ass.” “I didn’t really have any relationship with the A.D.,” Pelini said. “The guy, you guys saw him (Sunday), the guy’s a total p----."

  11. Bob Devaney ran a pro-style offense and won two National Championships at Nebraska. Power Football isn't what Nebraska needs. We need GOOD football. The offense doesn't matter.

  13. Here's the quote I latched onto, from the article Mavric linked. Watch that play again. CB is 3 yds off the line, jumps the route at the snap. Morgan has virtually no chance at that angle.

  14. Thought I'd work through the game to see what happened. Should have known it was going to be a bad day when Lindsey couldn't even catch the opening kick. Nice of the Huskies to spot us seven yards on the first play. Simple outside zone - hat on a hat. 5 yards. First down. Similar protection concept as what bit us on the last play against Oregon. This time Foster pulls to block while the rest of the line slides left. Foster/Wilbon barely get enough as Lee actually does a nice job stepping up into the pocket and finds DPE for 36 yards. Second running play. Second time it's a straight-ahead give. You'd probably say the Huskies "only" have seven in the box but they have an OLB and a Safety pretty close and keying run. Not much of a push by the OL but not much room to run when you have nine defenders that close. One yard loss. Clean pocket. Crisp throw. Easy target. Lindsey for 11 yards and a first down. This is the play I discussed from the tweet in another thread. I'm sure many - including the author of the tweet/article - pointed to this as an example of "poor OL play". But the line actually did all they could do here. Straight-ahead give. Everyone is walled off to the right. But NIll could put nine guys in the box because of our formation. A Safety that was walked up is able to hit Wilbon in the backfield and slow him up enough to blow up the play. Wilbon did a great job to still get 7 yards but it could easily have been more if the safety has to play at normal depth. First pick-six. Things were going well up to this point. But it's (mostly) down-hill from here. Coaches tried to throw Morgan under the bus for this one but I don't know how he could have blocked him. Our alignment was different from a lot of the bublle screens we've faced where the receivers are almost stacked. DPE was well inside of Morgan and the DB broke on the snap. Morgan hasn't even gotten his first step down and he's already beat because the DB can jump to the inside and go around Morgan instead of having to go through him.

  15. First play of the second possession. Similar to the play above where we motion into a three-TE-type set and run straight ahead. NIll can walk a safety up to get eight guys in the box because they can anticipate the run. I'm sure that's not a tendency that they've noticed on film. Gain of 3. Quick set. Quick throw. Easy target. DPE for 5. We have all 11 guys in tight formation at the snap on 3rd & 2. I wonder what we're going to do? In particular, they have three guys between our guards but we try to run A gap. There was at least a half-hearted fake to DPE but it's another straight-ahead run. Again, no push from the OL so it's on them too but I was running a more creative running scheme with my 4th graders that morning. One yard loss. Punt.

  16. A lot of people got their panties in a huge bunch because of the way he said it. I didn't because I care a lot more about the substance than the style, and what he said was basically true.

  17. Aren't we pretty good at this? Isn't this what we did when Tulane fans clued us in on Tanner Lee? How about the UConn fans and Diaco? It's what we do.

  20. Yep! Exactly. Look, we all want the Huskers to be good. A lot of us rolled our eyes at this hire and a lot actually said they had to google who Mike Riley was when he was hired. I rolled my eyes because I knew who he was and didn't think much of the hire. I didn't think he would do well here and the first year was filled with excuses and mystery toxins. The second year started off awesome and then turned out pretty lame but still above I would say for an overall record. Now the Skers have lost like 6 out of 9...they don't look all that good and there is a chance they get pounded a few times this season. Beaver fans basically laid out this road map for us. Some coaches are great, some are good, some are average and some are bad. Mike is between average and good. We knew that coming in. I think it is pronounced Wanstache

  22. Didn't see this one coming. I've been waiting for a meme to pop-up around here. I'm sure all the chap-stick slapstick people got all worked up over TO just chomping his gum. I don't blame the coaches for the players not having "swagger". Having a sack and want-to is totally 100% on the players.

  23. Benning made a comment on Saturday that's kind of amazing how many different ways that Riley's teams have lost. Sometimes it's terrible defense. Sometimes it's terrible offense. Sometimes it's a hail mary or crazy clock management at the end of the game. Some of them may be fluky, but they are still losses. That's the thing with Riley's teams. They generally find ways to lose games, rather than finding ways to win games.

  27. Also, just to chime in on Les Miles - no chance he's who we want. Not that he didn't have success. But he had a huge talent advantage but completely failed for years to have even a competent offense. In 2013 he had Zach Mettenberger at QB (started 10 games over two years for the Tennessee Titans), Jeremy Hill at RB (fourth-year Cincinnati Bengal), Jarvis Landry (two-time 1000 yard receiver for the Dolphins) and one Odell Beckham Jr. playing WR. That offense finished 87th in the country under Les.

  28. That's what athletic directors do. If he doesn't give them contract extensions, the same as every school gives every coach regardless of how they're doing, other schools use that effectively as recruiting leverage against us. That is no knock on Eichorst whatsoever. Frankly, all the s#!t being said about Eichorst is a bit disgusting to me. People act like athletic success isn't in large part due to a lucky roll of the dice. Mike Riley is obviously not panning out in year 3, and that is understandably frustrating, but the hire was near universally praised by people within college football who know they're s#!t. Guess what? Head coaching hires are huge gambles! Every coaching hire is a gamble minus Nick Saban and Urban Meyer - everyone else, you're just hoping that it works out. Eichorst inherited Tim Miles and Darin Erstad, and personally I think it's the right move and admirable to let both of them max out on possible opportunities before needing to fire them. Nobody here has any clue what actually goes on behind the scenes in athletic departments across the country. The only single stain on Eichorst's resume is that his football coach hasn't worked out. That doesn't necessarily mean it was a bad decision, it doesn't necessarily mean it was a misguided idea, and it doesn't necessarily mean that it was a bad gamble. It could mean all of those things, but the only thing it means for sure to those of us who don't have any actual knowledge of these sorts of things is that it was a gamble that hasn't paid off. It happens. Get the hell over it - or don't, but at least don't call strangers with very difficult jobs cowards/snakes/a$$hole$/pussies/duplicitous/whatever. Brady Hoke went 11-2 and won a Sugar Bowl in his first year. Kevin Sumlin went 11-2 and won the Cotton Bowl, being finished ranked #5 in his first year. Will Muschamp went 11-2 and had a top ten season in his second year. You wanna hire any of them?
