  1. I learned the following: Our defense has steadily and measurably improved since the first half at Oregon. It's the only unit we're fielding that's showing increased improvement from game to game. Also, I would be okay with Diaco taking over as interim HC if our BOR wanted to terminate Riley and Langsdorf immediately. Langsdorf is a f*****g moron that continues to force his identity on an offense that is neither well-coached or talented enough to run it. Riley needs to eschew Langsdorf and take over playcalling with a run-first mentality. It's the only thing we're doing well right now. Tanner Lee should not be our QB. The coaches better have a damn good reason why they're not putting POB in the game (especially when the O-Line is actually playing well, unlike last week) Langsdorf ran the same f*****g running play twice in a row in the 4th quarter when we were driving for a TD (when we had to settle for a FG). Between this and calling Play Action pass plays in the red zone last week, we should fire Langsdorf on principle right now for such stupidity. To drive home the point about how bad Langsdorf and Tanner Lee are, our defense has given up only 17 points in eight quarters; Tanner Lee has given up 21 on his own. Ultimately, I'm more pissed after this win than I am with the loss, because what we showed today indicates we have the kids to be 4-0 right now and looking optimistically towards Illinois and Wisky--we just have idiots for a head coach and OC.

  2. With all this talk of new AD and HC I would like to take this time and remind everyone that Riley hasn't been fired yet. He is still leading our Huskers and I wish him success today and this season. I don't want to see him fired, I would rather see him rally this team and save his job. If he doesn't do that and is fired I do support that decision and hope we get a home run hire. Until that time I will be behind Riley and hoping he can lead this team to success. GBR! Let's beat the Knights down today!

  3. I learned that our defense may become serviceable. Hard to know for sure until we play somebody of substance but they seem to be improving and are keeping opposing offenses from scoring. Also learned, or rather had the point driven home again, that Tanner Lee is nothing more than an interception machine. He should've been benched after the first pick and definitely after the 2nd. This tells us that either the coaches are stupid or don't care any more and/or the stories of us actually having any backup quarterbacks have been greatly exaggerated. Ozigbo does exist and is not MIA.

  4. Starting to wonder what it takes to get benched at QB?

  6. I know you're trying to be optimistic zoogs but Rutgers has lost 14 straight conference games.

  7. Makes me a little sad to read the facebook and message board comments of "the greatest fans in college football" wanting their coach fired. It means our team didn't win guys. Quit cutting your nose to spite your face because then you will never be able to smell the roses when they do grow.

  8. Quality win.....reaching really deep for that one. Don't get me wrong I like wins....but this was more I tripped and slide through horse s#!t on my way across the finish line, then got up and sprayed axe on and went out for a date to Runza with my ex who happens to be my cousin and is gender fluid.

  11. I learned Riley must be a good leader. It's pretty impressive to hold the ship together enough to win a conference game, bad as Rutgers might be, in a 10-day period of time where: - There's uproar over the ending of Black Friday games (something that Riley might not even be around for given it's 3 years down the road). - The AD gets fired. - You play without the following players: Tre Bryant (#1 RB), Stanley Morgan (#1 WR), Cole Conrad (#1 C), David Knevel (#1 RT), Matt Farniok (#2 RT), Marcus Newby (#1 OLB), Tyrin Ferguson (#2/3 OLB), Josha Kalu (#1 S), Chris Jones (#1 CB), and Aaron Williams (#1 S - yes, on a penalty, but he basically missed the entire game). I did see some positives during the game as well. For as frustrating as Langsdorf's play calling can be, it looked to me like he finally decided to play to the team's strength and run the ball. The second half looked a lot like the 2009 offensive game plan - run the ball, grind out first downs, let the clock run, avoid back breaking turnovers, punt and play D when necessary, get a big special teams play or two, and take advantage when you get the short field. As ugly as it might be to watch, it's a way the team can stay in the game. That should be the approach going forward, and I think it will be. Riley isn't stupid, he knows what the rest of this season is about. Win games however possible, and give yourself a chance to keep your job, or beat yourself and say goodbye. We can talk about how terrible Rutger is, but Washington had 84 yards rushing on 24 carries (3.5 ypc). Eastern Michigan had 114 on 35 carries (3.3). Morgan State had 80 yards on 37 carries (2.2 ypc). Not a ton of great competition, but they've been decent against the run. I think it's a success when the Huskers rush for 200 yards while missing their starting center and playing a true freshman at tackle. And, you know what? The D looks pretty darn good. I think it's really impressive given the number of guys they're playing. The depth will be much improved as they start to get guys back from injury. I like Riley in every way, except the consistency on the field. I know that's what he gets paid for, and I'm hoping he can figure it out.

  12. So if Scott Frost has one more B1G Conference win that Riley does at this point...

  13. I see a lot of preference for home grown AD/HC candidates. I am not against an Alberts/Frost duo and I get it. What better way to bring back success than via someone who not only has achieved it, but someone who has done it here! However, the notion that since former players understand Nebraska they will magically bring back the glory years makes me wonder. It is not as if they will come in and show tape of 1995 and all of sudden everyone will collectively stand up, throw their hands in the air and say, " Now I get it. You want us to be really good, have pride and win all of our games!" Nebraska's toughest recruiting challenges are bringing out-of-state kids into Lincoln. Other schools need to effectively use the state pride card to influence local talent to stay home. Tugging at the heart strings of kids from California, Florida, Ohio or Michigan by showing them past success that was attributed when high school talent represented their home state makes sense. Having a coach in a living room that was a player for the local university has influence there. Telling the same kids about Nebraska pride won't mean a thing. It is a different sales pitch (like it or not that is what it is). Can we afford another swing and miss? The game has changed since the 90's, we all know that. The number of schools offering a scholarship to play football has drastically changed in 30 years. Kids who would walk-on for TO are now getting a scholarship someplace else. There is no conference loyalty, everyone is on TV and social media is more important than the primetime game. Teams that were not even Division 1 football programs years ago now have practice and training facilities as nice as any other in the nation. Things have changed. Coach Osbourne was a man of tradition, but he was also an innovator. You can't run fast looking behind you. When the legend Bear Bryant left Alabama, they thought a "Bama guy" had to replace him. They brought in former player Ray Perkins. They tried another "Bryant guy" in Gene Stallings who played for the Bear at A&M (one of the famous Junction Boys) and later as an assistant coach in Tuscaloosa. Then they hired Mike DuBose who had played there. They also gave alumnus Mike Shula a try. Then they hired Nick Saban. Now many say the Bear was their second best coach of all time. Saban is a West Virginia kid who has player and coaching roots largely in Ohio. While we root for the hometown guys, how much does that factor take precedence? Will this be a true nationwide search or does in-state influence demand if the next guy fails, at least it was one of ours? I do hope the search for both positions is not unnecessarily quick, based on emotions or feelings of nostalgia. As a professional, putting your best foot forward often necessitates that you put those things aside.

  17. Regardless of the offensive system, the OL play, etc. How many pick sixes does your QB need to throw before giving the backup at least 1 series? I mean we're at 3 in 2 games and also lead the nation in INTs. How much worse would the growing pains be?

  27. The Nebraska tradition that matters most to fans is winning. There are plenty of ways to do that and plenty of people who can make it happen. If we in any way consider 'Nebraska ties' as a significant contributing factor to this position, we are increasing our risk of failure. But, hey, at least they'll 'get it.' Why does it appear more people feel this way about university/team leadership, but not the starters on the roster? By and large, this board wants 'the best player to start' at a position regardless of their name, history, where they're from or the number on this jersey. Yet, that seems to get thrown out the window far more often when it comes to university leadership. There's a bit of irony there.

  28. So an 18 year old tweeting at of his best friends and trying to get him to play college with him (not to mention he's not lying, the program is a mess), makes him an "immature punk" and a "terrible person". Step away from recruiting for a second and take a breath. If that's the worst thing TJ has done, good for him.

  31. I agree Riley is a class act. I can't comment on how classy Langs is, have only heard him speak once to some reporters. So I guess in that sense I like them too. But as for good teachers or coaches.....I've seen no proof of that displayed on Saturdays. Hey, I like Riley a lot, as a person, but he is not getting the job done. This is the 4th game of his 3rd season, that is all the time that can be afforded to show if things are headed in the right direction. We've won only 4 of our last 10 games with the 2 most recent being anything but stellar performances against Arky State and Rutgers....and a home loss to NIU. That is not remotely in the direction this program needs to be headed. I just hope they figure out a way to amicably break it off with Riley so we aren't viewed poorly nationally again. I have nothing but good wishes for Mike. I want him out more for his own good than the teams. He doesn't deserve the sh#tstorm that will ensue should this needlessly drag out. He just isn't going to accomplish what we want here.

  32. It's really not possible to carry on a conversation with people who just need to vent their anger about results by saying the worst things possible about coaches. But fandom is ubiquitous about this. As it turns out, almost all coaches everywhere don't have a clue what they're doing and belong in the amateur ranks. That doesn't have to be the case and we can still have a reasoned discussion about right fit, right direction, earning keep, and so on. Nebraska fans have high football IQs. We can do better than "Run the damn ball", "bring back the 90s", and "Coaches are actually stupid".

  33. Coolest thing that stood out to me. As much as our fanbase can be insufferable when things aren't perfect, they were loud and supportive today. That's rare.

  34. So I feel like a swipe at people with non-binary gender identification was unnecessary to express your discontent with the state of Nebraska football. But yeah, if the Huskers do well the rest of the way, this'll be a quality win because it'll be seen as a springboard towards the strong finish. If it's a dumpster fire season, we'll treat this as practically a loss. Either is fair enough. I just prefer the brighter take as long as I can manage it

  42. Fun Fact: In his first year as head coach, Scott Frost was actually more pass happy than Mike Riley: UCF Run/Pass 2016 527/448 UNL Run/Pass 2016 523/400 I'm not sure why people assume Frost's return would simply be a reboot of 1997.
