  1. Thats not what he meant at all. Not one bit. He was talking about the fans that would rather be right about their prediction on coaches than actually supporting the University. And hes absolutely right. You see it right here on this board. The guys that posted the day Riley was hired that he would be a failure and be fired within 3-4 years. And then theyve come back this season just to say they were right all along and we should have listened to them. You think those "fans" gave Riley any shot at all? Nope. Just wanted to be right about their predictions three years ago. Thats who DB was talking about. Not fans that voice their displeasure after they have given the guy a chance and have seen for themself it is not working.

  2. As Nebraska navigates through another tough season and probably a transition, there seems to be those fans and talking heads who want to put the focus on the fan and to somehow make the case that its our fault, the fault of the fan, that the program is in the shape it's in now. Enough of that. Damon Benning's talk on NET's Big Red Wrap got my blood boiling. He was talking about how we all need to just come together and tell everyone that the University of Nebraska comes first. We are not supposed to advocate for OUR guy in terms of favorite coach. If you like Scott Frost for HC, you aren't supposed to talk. Talk positively on any other coach but Mike Riley and prepare to get shamed. Also, don't leave the stadium early while we are getting blown out. Don't boo if you don't like what's happening on the field. And don't be critical of anything. Stop complaining and fall into line behind the program. News Flash! It doesn't matter how many fans fall behind the program in robotic fashion, it will still come down to whether or not the University of Nebraska wants to hire a new coach or not. It comes down to whether or not the University of Nebraska hires a good coach or retains a good coach. It comes down to recruiting. It comes down to players doing their jobs. It comes down to the difficulty of opponents. It comes down to luck at times. It comes down to a 1,000 other things. The fan is about 999th on the list. As Ohio State beat Nebraska, there were fans around me who got up and headed for the gates. I didn't. I stayed the whole game. There were some fans who booed. I didn't. I tried to stay positive. There were some pretty upset people. I wasn't. I internalize that stuff. And so Damon Benning thinks if everyone will just act like me, then our problems will be solved. He's wrong. I get why people want to go home. Maybe they had work on Sunday. Maybe they just were not having a good time. And I am OK with that. I sure hope that we get this thing rolling in the right direction and those fans come back. I am sure that they will. Nebraska fans have stuck behind this team. In the many times since, oh, about 2002, when we get drilled, I go to the stadium the next week and think that will be the week that the stadium is half empty at kick. Husker fans just keep showing up and keep cheering. Kudos to you guys. And even if, at some point in the future, the fans stop coming.... it won't be because they don't want the team to be successful. It will be because the games are simply too costly and not enough fun to make sense as an investment of significant dollars. Ohio State is in the books. And we march on to Purdue hoping for the best. In the meantime, if Nebraska struggles, I am hoping that people will keep it down with the "Fan is to blame!" nonsense. It's hard on this fan's ears.

  4. "Frost or Bust" shouldn't be used to describe people who only specifically want him to be our head coach. It should be used to describe the state of our football program. Coaching hires are gambles and there's no guarantee of success in the realm of sports. However, when you factor in all of the elements in place, almost every other prospective coach is either A) Someone who realistically will not be interested in coming here, or B) Someone who doesn't have either the demonstrated success or the momentum/hot name factor to place a lot of confidence in. Scott Frost is the perfect candidate for our school. He's a former player, he's a young up and coming hot shot who would be a splash hire, and he's a coach who has done nothing but succeed everywhere he's been. Nobody else who we could actually get is going to come anywhere close resume-wise.

  7. Here's a story to cheer you all up and take your mind off of your problems...cuz I like a happy Husker much more than a morose one... I recently found my game films from 1984 so took a look to remind myself why I ever was stupid enough to play football. My senior year...we weren't good, or even mediocre...the usual ISU team. When we were playing Nebraska, We did some two tight end sets because Alex Espinosa was getting crushed when we tried passing. Our D was actually doing real well (until the beer and cigarettes kicked in in the 4th, after which we got buried)...so we were going with the 1 yard and a cloud of dust option three times then punt game plan (you all should consider Jim Criner to be your new coach...everybody already hates him) and I was getting a few reps. I pretty much got manhandled on both sides of the formation. I counted three times that #87 pretty much ran me over and one time where #90 just picked me up and threw me. But, the hardest hit I took that entire game was when some little pissant DB got me right in the ribs, knocked the wind out of me and left me laying on the field thinking the last thing I was going to see before I died was the face of our butt ugly trainer. Unfortunately, I lived to lose another day and had a wonderful bruise that was the color of a beautiful fall sunset. #10 the kid's number was. He was real ugly and missing all his teeth and had crossed eyes...actually, I didn't even see him coming...but I could smell him! You damn Huskers! Anyway...that kid could him like a ton of bricks. He gets my "Hardest Husker Hitter" award... I'm going to get these tapes digitized. I'll post some clips when I can

  9. Why to the bolded? Jimbo Fisher was 45 when he was announced head coach at Florida State. He had zero head coaching experience. In year four, he wins a NC. Bob Stoops was 39 when he was announced head coach at OU. He had zero head coaching experience. In year two, he wins a NC. Dabo Swinney was 39 when he was announced head coach at Clemson. He had zero head coaching experience. In year nine, he wins a NC. Exactly how and why isn't Frost ready? If you look at Tom Herman and Scott Frost's resumes, they're pretty comparable. Herman took over a rated Houston team while Frost took over a team that didn't win a game. Herman was at Houston for two years. Frost will have been at UCF for two years. Obviously, Texas thinks Herman is ready. I fail to see why anyone would question whether Frost is ready.

  10. I personally feel it's a distraction. We're talking about an inept program which is swaying fans a certain way, and then pointing the fingers at the wrong people. You can love the Huskers and not love the quality of coaching or the stagnation of progress across the board. It is not all or nothing.

  13. Husker fans really painting themselves in a corner on this Frost thing. No one else will be good enough, the fan base will be pissed when we don't get him and the new coach won't get full or at least the same support as Frost would have gotten. Why does it have to be Frost or bust? Why must everyone suggest Frost will be the next TO? If we had him we'd be playing for national championships now! I don't know I believe that. I think we are romanticising Frost a bit much. Nebraska isn't UCF but the AAC sure as hell isn't the BIG. I like Frost and think he would do well but to think he'd have this team competing for a national title right now is a bit foolish. We may be doing better sure but that is a high standard to set, competing for a NC in year 3.

  19. I've heard DB take calls from people whose blood was boiling in part because what he says on broadcasts about the state of the program isn't negative enough. A guy might not share any insight but just wants to call it a dumpster fire and gets upset when DB isn't just going along. Where's the balance? Can't we be civil regardless? Can we still support the kids under a new coach that we called garbage over and over the previous season? I looked at them during the NI game and felt they deserved better but I don't know the whole story and never will. I've noticed this season that some fans have been referring to people supporting the program in a negative fashion (implying they are stupid for still thinking MR might be the guy). The internet used to be where all that happened but I don't know anymore. It's tiresome to hear so many rules for being a fan. I just figured it had to do with what you felt inside. I'm not going to judge because we all have passion as fanatics...

  20. Oh there's plenty of evidence that Frost is as close to a sure thing as you'll ever find, if you're willing to look at it. Especially for Nebraska.

  28. I think the easy response for most friends in that situation is to let it slide or joke along at the expense of starting an argument with a friend. It's a totally inappropriate reaction but I get it - laugh and blow it off rather than face the blatant assault/sexism that just occurred. I consider myself very fortunate that I've never been put in this position with my guy friends. It's just not a thing they/we do or have ever done. It's one of the biggest reasons I struggle to process how or why a man would do something like slap a woman's butt in public because it just doesn't make sense to me.

  30. I've never once seen anyone on this board, on social media, in an article, etc., claim Joshua Kalu was moved to safety to appease Lamar Jackson. That's not to say it didn't happen, but the assertion that this was 'common knowledge' seems disingenuous.

  31. ? Sports are entertainment. If folks arent entertained by their qb throwing pick 6s and their defenses inability to stop either the run or pass, or the entire operation not to get repeately humiliated on the national stage, then fans can say its bulls#!t and stop going to stupid games, and they will continue in that way. All this "show of loyalty to the U" and "fans should come together" is utter nonsense. Fans are not entertained by crap and wont pay for it and will say its crap. Thats the bottom line.

  34. Plenty of people are looking 'at it.' Coyly suggesting they don't understand or somehow have blinders on is presumptuous and imperious. I also find this phrasing lacking in substance - "there's plenty of evidence that Frost is as close to a sure thing as you'll ever find." It lacks commitment. Frost is building himself as a potential great hire for a school in the future, but this reverent pedestal he's being put on is silly.

  38. STOP with the recruiting comparisons decades ago. The Prop 48 Big 8 rules for eligibility were different. (It gave NE a big advantage) Television coverage was different. (Only a few schools were on TV each weekend years ago. Now coverage is from morning to late night and streaming makes it even more accessible) The amount of scholarships allowed was higher. (It went from 105 to 95 and then down to 85) Football is a win now industry. Nobody will care if you gave all the kids in the state a scholarship. Feel good stories won't save your job and you better win inside of 4 years. The amount of schools who gave football scholarships at the D1 level was different. (There are good programs where kids can go and get a free education and play sooner) The cost of college is exorbitant. (The JJ Watt stories are rare. Few kids can afford to walk-on with the price of school when they can get a full ride elsewhere) Yes, we need recruitment to improve, but at least know the game has changed so the formula also has too.

  39. I'd argue that our defense has been the biggest problem over the last 15 years, that has led us the the blowout losses, records of futility, and all time lows. For the most part, our offenses have been fine (2009 the obvious exclusion) imo.

  42. And if Coach Frost doesn't give a strong yes, fly down to Orlando and not return until he is signed. I don't give a flying f if it looks desperate, its about doing what it takes to get what you want. Michgian literally decided to forgo an entire recruiting class just to land Harbaugh and broke out the checkbook to get it done. They waited for weeks to get the deal done and didn't let one recruiting class impact their choice.
