  1. We aren't going 4-1. Riley knows he's gone and his coaching staff is distracted by their own future. Practices must be a nightmare of going through the motions. Since the Northern Illinois game, the team has had four chances to play for pride, and there's been no burst of adrenaline or focus or players stepping up in the moment. There was one moment in the middle of the third quarter against Wisconsin — Nebraska had tied the game and the crowd was going nuts — where the season and perhaps Riley could have been salvaged. That was the moment when Wisconsin took a deep breath and calmly proved it was a much better team on both sides of the ball. That was the last of the last chances, imo.

  5. Personally, if a coach has no national championships (or appearances in the game), no conference championships (P5, or at least appearances in the game), and hasn't ever finished better than 2nd in his division, that's not tier 1.

  6. No, they don’t. Nebraska has the fourth or fifth-best team in terms of talent based off of recruiting standings (depending on the service referenced). Purdue is excelling because of quality coaching and instruction. They don’t have depth, they don’t have as many playmakers as we do. But they’re well coached, the players know their roles, and they excel because of that instruction. And it’s this superior coaching that will most likely net them a win Saturday night, sad to say.

  7. https://huskercorner.com/2017/10/22/nebraska-football-spread-purdue-insult/ Well, here we go. I am not going to knock on Riley, I guess that is getting old. But you know what else is getting old? being a freaking underdog to Purdue.... What the heck happened...

  9. Nebraska is a bigger underdog this week against Purdue, then it was in 2015 against #6 Michigan State.

  11. Because it's a stupid idea. I don't own any black Husker gear, so they're asking me to wear something in generic black instead of the school colors. I own a red hat, red shirt, red sweatshirt, and a red coat with Husker logos. I don't own any of that in black. So why not stick with the sea of red thing. Plus, the opponent at the time wears red. So there are likely thousands of them sprinkled around in the stadium; like the guy with the W hat 3 rows down in the picture. Better to blend them in. At least Penn State is smart enough to pick one of their school colors.

  12. If Bo had left the cupboard that bare, it should have been pretty easy for Riley to recruit more than 1 defensive starter in two years.

  13. I don't care who the next coach is, but the contract should include a clause that allows the coach to be fired with no additional payments if Nebraska is an underdog to a Purdue team with losing record.

  14. I have a problem with this kind of article. I have no problem with acknowledging what Brohm has done as a function of what they've previously done and what they hope to become. He clearly has them on the upswing. But they aren't that team they want to become in future seasons, they're a team with a losing record, projected to have a losing record. We play this team, not next year's team, so let's not pretend they've already made it.

  16. Haha, the True Fan Card, keep playing it... If would-be recruits and the national media are laughing at us, it matters. Was Wiscy/NE or tOSU/NE on primetime ABC this year for the big bucks? No. Why? Because we suck and they know it.

  19. Baker has been said he's not "seasoned" and is not ready. Both him and Rose seem to think the fan base doesn't have 2-3 of patience in the tank. I can only speak for myself. My expectation for coach Frost(or whoever) next year is to every once in while control the line of scrimmage against elite programs and not go down to wire with teams with a budget that dwarfs ours.

  24. In our last game on National TV the announcers were discussing potential replacements for Riley given the season he's having. It's not just random people on a message board. That sort of national exposure can't be good for recruiting. When the announcers get bored during the Penn State game, they will likely talk about it too. Everyone could be 100% positive on Husker message boards and show up for every game, but Riley has been inching up on most every major sports broadcasting and analyst's hot seat lists this season. Continued poor results will mean it's discussed before, during, and after Nebraska's games; even if it's not talked about here.

  26. The only thing I can think of is to do what I have been doing since Trump won the nomination and ultimately the election. When issues are brought up in groups of friends about issues, I do my best to express how I am still a fiscal conservative and how Trump goes totally against that. For a while, they always act shocked that I don't just love Trump. Then, the more I talk, the more frustrated they get and they change the subject. Hopefully, over time, they start thinking about these issues from a different angle than toting the party line. It honestly is the most frustrating time in my life politically. Just an example of how baffling this whole conversation is. I literally will have people shoot back....."well, at least he isn't out golfing all the time like Obama." Seriously......that is a common come back and it make my blood boil.

  28. Also, is this where we start kidding ourselves all over again? Do those of us with long Big 8 memories simply assume any coach would consider Nebraska a major step up from Iowa State? If you're thrilling a long-suffering fanbase at a Power 5 school, what makes the Nebraska situation more attractive? Just the paycheck? And are we also assuming Iowa State could never match it?

  29. I know. I still haven't gotten over how Pelini was billed as a "defensive genius" but could never craft a B1G defense designed to stop Wisconsin's smashmouth offense.

  31. Do you also notice that even the simplest thing turns into a major debate, finger pointing, and holding up and protecting Trump's image. The whole thing wt his call to the widow of the slain soldier is a case study in ineptness in handling a routine duty of the president and his staff. A compassionate call, in humility and giving honor to the dead is all that it takes and presidents have done it for decades. Yes those calls are never enjoyable but if you have some sense of humanity and compassion, they can be done tastefully and with honor. Yet this turns again into another 3 ring circus. It all wears the society down and proves once again we are let by an immature man.

  32. I agree that the Frost hype and hysteria has gotten a bit out of hand. I really like Frost, and I think he will end up being a great coach, and I hope he ends up at NU. I think he ends up being a "first tier" coach. However, when you comment about going out and getting a current "first tier" coach, it's practically impossible to hire a successful coach at a current Power 5 conference school, and bring him to another P5 school. It just doesn't happen.

  33. I do think she might be more productive in the role. As a governor, she has broader experience in working within the structure of govt. Tillerson seems a bit like a fish out of water. He has been reducing the State Dept down to a shell of its former self - under Trump's design. We are simultaneously making policy statements (trade, environmental, Iran, NK) that put us out of sync with the rest of the world, while also cutting back our State Dept - the dept by which we communicate our positions and negotiate to have those positions known and accepted by the world. So if we take a position that is contrary to world opinion, we should have a vigorous 'sales force' (state dept) to communicate the reasonableness of those position (assumption would be that the positions are reasonable - many of Trump's are not) and sell (convince) other nations of the rightness of these contrary positions. Anytime one makes a strategic change, esp a large change, the battle is won or lost via the communication channel. And that channel has typically been the State Dept. I know Trump sees himself as a 1 person foreign affairs department which can communicate via twitter, but he is sadly mistaken. As some old sage once stated: He who doctors himself has an fool for a patient and a idiot for a doctor.

  36. While I understand what you are getting at, I still find it egregious to see that Nebraska is an underdog to Purdue. Year 3 of a coaching regime at Nebraska should not be going into Purdue on underdog. Although people accept that we are just not that good right now, I refuse to accept this as the standard of Nebraska football.

  39. You are right but I’ve also heard him be very rude and talk down to callers. I used to appreciate his input, not anymore. He has a hard time commenting without “I” Jason Peter was on the Big Red wrap up and you could tell he knew what was going on. Benning is all about himself . What’s he done since college? He’s a high school coach. Just tired of the dude after his twitter rant with a woman, yeah he knew more, he always does.

You all don't want Matt Campbell...he...uh...shuts his lights off and pretends not to be home on Halloween...and...um...takes candy from babies and kicks puppies and kitties and...uh...other real bad stuff. Definitely not the kind of guy Nebraska would want leading their football team...better look somewhere else.
