  2. It's not. But if you're using it to help with a chronic mental illness, then you're going to be predisposed towards wanting to feel mentally healthy. Please don't confuse chemical addition to an illicit substance with someone's constant drive for mental well-being and sanity.

  3. One facepalm for the NFL, and one facepalm for the ignorant tripe skersfan posted. :-| --- It's already been well documented that Randy has anxiety issues, and that Prescription/OTC meds were not working for him, and cannabis was. I also personally know friends and family members that have severe anxiety that medications failed to help out with (e.g. nasty side effects, put the user in a mental haze, made the user fall asleep). These folks had to relocate to Colorado (at the time, the only state that allowed Cannabis use) so they could use either cannabis oil (for the minors involved) or smoke it (for the adults) to help alleviate their symptoms. Not only have they been able to control their anxiety, but they're finally able to lead productive, high quality lives since they moved. I know there are people that will just tell anxiety sufferers to 'suck it up', or say that it's a 'load of crap'. But it's real, people suffer from it, and cannabis is a valid remedy when the available medications fail. As for Randy, I'll wager we find out this isn't as simple as some folks want to make this out to be (rarely is anything in life ever a simple black/white dichotomy). If Randy has anxiety issues that medicine can't help with, but cannabis does, then this ceases being a case of a player simply taking an illicit substance for recreational purposes, and it becomes the NFL asking a player to ultimately sacrifice mental health for playing time. Considering that the NFL has a PR issue with asking players to sacrifice future mental health for current playing time, this strikes me as morally and ethically repugnant on their part.

  4. I will reiterate, I will not accept Bielema as a HC. The guy is an asshat. He can send his wife but he better not get anywhere near here. If people want a coach who will be able to understand the fan base and will dive in 100% to accept our traditions, history, and what our program is all about and bring us back that way, with blue collar ethos, Bielema is the furthest from that you can get. Hes an arrogant self absorbed prick!!

  6. Vector, quite possibly as ignorant as you say. I did not attend college, but am now at 70 years old My opinions are off of real life experiences, not some test or study. Can you confirm that he has a prescription for Medical marijuana? Can you confirm he was on medication for depression prior to his use of MJ? Stating it is well documented does not really tell us the story. What it says to me, my opinion, is that Nebraska continually tried to protect him, and get him to the NFL. I have dealt with this stuff for many years, a Lifer in the Marine Corps. I have owned 5 businesses that I started, built and sold. Have had hundreds of employees with these claimed problems. Used to see it daily. Still see some "sick ones" dangling on 200 foot towers, that I build. Licensed/certified climbers that need it to do their job is the story. Three weeks ago I had to have helicopter brought to a site to get a Medical marijuana impaired climber down. Do you have any idea what that cost me? It is a need, a want, a high, an excuse. And of course his use of medical marijuana was not listed in his health screen. He would not have been hired if it had been, trust me. It is now being sold as a medicine to escape the laws about it. I live in the mountains of SoCal, 20 acre plots, at least 5 of these plots around me are grow locations. Which are totally illegal, but the Riverside County Sheriff will not do anything about them. I have a rental property turned into a grow house. Over 200K done in damage. The only thing they could be charged with was eliminating the electrical meter. A felony, but destroying my property had no bearing. There are over 1500 illegal grow houses in the Sacramento area. All for medical MJ . Recreational use sale becomes legal in this state soon. There is a Medical Office in Hemet, that you walk in the door, and hundreds do, that they will write a prescription for you on site and sell you the product you need. Then they stumble out the door and hang around businesses and actually drive customers away. Nothing is done about it. Now if you can provide me with a history that Randy was seeing a doctor using prescription drugs before he was using POT. Then I would consider it a fact. But you are just repeating what you have been told. I know Randy missed quite a few games at Nebraska, and it was mentioned he was using MJ. Never saw proof of that to be fair. I grew up with an alcoholic father and mother in East Omaha, and several drunk/druggie live in boyfriends that my mother drug home. Life was not the greatest, but I learned very young, that 99% of the time you choose your route. You control what you want to be, how you get there. And again, thank you Grand Pa, god rest your soul. Makes you a little different. I have never drank a beer, never smoked a joint or done any other type of drugs. Because I chose not to. So I know you can come from a bad situation and not be dependent on something to escape. I have close friends that use it. But they all seem to be honest about it. They like how they feel when they use it. Everything now seems to have an excuse, it is never the fault of the killer, the rapist, the drug dealer. Something from their past is always the reason. Daddy hit me, mommy didn't feed me. The teacher was mean to me, girls were mean to me, I am depressed, I have Red hair, what ever it takes. Legal defense.

  7. From what I know of Randy's situation, and from learning a lot about severe clinical depression over the past few years, I don't know if it's as much "addiction" as just simply being the only thing that he has found that helps him cope. I used to be in the same boat as a lot of people, thinking that Randy is an idiot for choosing marijuana over football, but that was before I knew what anxiety and depression do to people. In a way I can see how it could be considered an addiction, but for Randy and a lot of people in his situation it's something that they almost literally can't live without.

  8. Langsgoof said he was going to change things up a bit offensively and involve TE's more. This means throwing it more. I think on the road we need to develop the running game. Purdue is a better team than Illinois. If we expect to sling it right off the bat it may come back to bite us.

  9. Uh, I don’t believe we left the Big 12 because we weren’t winning enough. We left because we didn’t have much say anymore in a conference being run by Texas and because it seemed our culture aligned more closely with the B1G schools and of course the $$$$’s. It wasn’t the Big 8 any longer. To say we left, bolted, took our ball because of winning issues is a false narrative. However, I will agree that we have to earn our way to respect in the B1G. Sh#t that happened 20+ years ago doesn’t matter much today. But our name and our history does still carry a bit of clout. Because of it we are much better off than our record of the last 20 years would get us. We can still attract a bigger name coach because of it and we’ve got enough money to pay practically anybody we would want. We’re not Kansas or Iowa or Minnesota....yet.

  10. I don't pass judgement on him. I call the use of it a desire, not a necessity. It may very well be as some say. But he stands to lose millions of dollars if he doesn't clean up his act, and I for one would be doing everything in my power to do what the NFL wanted from me to keep the access to the money. I hope he kicks it. I never like to see people fail. I did stretch the truth a little there. I had bi-lateral knee replacement a few years back, was prescribed Vicodin and took them for a week. Then thru them away. 2 months is normal I guess. I know I piss people off at times. I admit I see things differently than most of you. But there is nothing I say to you guys and ladies that I would not say to your face.

  11. Transcript of comment from Aaron Taylor: "From conversations I have had with him....this is his dream job, relationship with the AD is a big factor, money doesn't mean a thing to him and we would obviously pay his assistants well. He is a little worried about the big fishbowl that this job has become and talked about enjoy the anonymity at his previous jobs. He is set to have a baby next week and Larry and Carol would also push hard also to have that grandbaby back in Nebraska. His latest visit with me on style of offense is a Nebraska style inside zone game and quasi Oregon outside zone game. He believes in the run game and would like something close to 65/35 run/pass game. If you compare his current offense to Osbornes, you will see a lot of similarities in the blocking schemes...even on those outside zone plays. Defensively he likes the attacking style and would bring his DC Erik Chinander with him. This guy is a big up and comer and in my opinion would restore the order...he is a good dude too." This was posted elsewhere so I don't have the original link.

NU staff trying to find a way to score more points than other team NU staff trying to find a way to stop clock near end of game NU staff trying to find a way to keep clock running at end of game NU staff trying to find a way to increase rushing yards without running the ball NU staff trying to find a way to get more sprinkles on cupcakes

  14. No sh#t. Maybe they could get some of the football players involved in the game of football. This is par for this group...3rd year, game 8 and still throwing sh#t at the wall to see what might stick. Wake me up when they announce who the new coach will be.

  17. And Wisconsin fans said that Dave Aranda loved being in Madison so much he would never leave. Well, he left to LSU. Houston fans said Tom Herman's wife loved Houston so much that they would not leave. Well, they left. They always leave. They never love it like fans pretend they do.

  18. 1) Why give your upcoming opponent a heads up on your game plan. 2) If you want your tight ends to catch the ball more, have them run routes and throw it to them more. 3) Stop throwing the ball long on 3rd and 2 .... sorry that just slipped out.

  19. Asking Nebraska fans to wear black to a game is like asking Florida fans to wear black to a game. It's not the team's colors so it doesn't resonate. The white out Penn St does works because white is one of their teams colors. In addition, maybe the Iron N should try to give people more than 3 days notice via social media to get something like this started.

  20. When I went to UNL it was far, far easier for students to sell their tickets, so the student section always appeared full. Since the school added extra steps to selling those tickets, they often go unsold. There has never, ever been a time when college students didn't bail on games. It's just now it's more visible because the tickets will go unused. Not sure why you're blaming the students for anything. They're doing what students always do/have done.

  23. They literally started a fund to keep their coaches that they are fundraising for. They don't have any more money, this is why coaches leave for bigger gigs. Also, he is literally at the top of every list of "up and coming coaches" and "hot hires for this year". He is the Tom Herman at Houston or Urban Meyer at Utah of this season. Why is this so hard for some people to grasp?

  27. No, they don’t. Nebraska has the fourth or fifth-best team in terms of talent based off of recruiting standings (depending on the service referenced). Purdue is excelling because of quality coaching and instruction. They don’t have depth, they don’t have as many playmakers as we do. But they’re well coached, the players know their roles, and they excel because of that instruction. And it’s this superior coaching that will most likely net them a win Saturday night, sad to say.

  28. If you're going to call out Benning as all about himself, then citing Peter isn't a good choice. Jason Peter is at least as much about himself as Benning. And you could make all the same arguments: what has Jason Peter done since college? It's silly.

  31. Wiltfong with a CB to Clemson. Good luck to the kid. Nebraska has more important issues to deal with at the moment than worry about where this stud is going to go to college. We need to do what Michigan did and focus on getting a competent head coach first and then focus on recruiting.

  32. I have never been an OC in my life. I didn't even stay at a Holliday Inn Express last night. But....a lot has been show about how predictable we are when we run heavy sets. We run the ball out of those sets almost all the time. Gee.....do you think that maybe when you have LBs crashing down on the line because they know we are going to run the ball up the gut.....slipping one of those TEs behind them or in the flats might result in a wide open target? It's not rocket surgery.

  34. You can run at Purdue and push them around. NU needs tighter coverage on defense. Nothing in NU's recent history suggest they will do either. I imagine it will be more head scratching, telegraphing offense and Diacos prevent D to start the game.

  35. It's concerning to me. I haven't lived in Nebraska for many years but when I visited my parents I started noticing a pattern. They would tell me a problem they were having and I would come up with a solution. Their response was always some reasons why the solution wouldn't work. The reasons sounded plausible but after analyzing them they were utter nonsense. I thought it was them but now I'm wondering if it's not become a statewide attitude. I hear of all of these reasons, excuses, barriers to Nebraska returning to having a successful football program. The coach doesn't have the players for his scheme. Fans are impatient and firing a coach periodically is holding us back. We can never get a good coach to Nebraska, look at the Callahan hiring. Yada, yada, yada. Frost is a good coach, now proven as a head coach, is a native Nebraskan, is very familiar with our past having played during our glory years, understands the challenges of our program and has previously expressed interest in being our head coach. This seems like a reasonable solution. I wouldn't say we're shooting ourselves in the foot but it seems like we're taking aim.

  36. This is a direct result of Langsdorf. In the spring and fall camp, we heard how good our TEs were. If I remember right, they even were featured heavily in the spring game. Then......the season hits and they are forgotten. This isn't the players saying....naaa....I don't want to throw to TEs. It's the OC not calling plays that get them open and get the ball to them. Now....after we play 7 games and have lost 4, there's an epiphany in the football offices? #frustrating

  41. We aren't going 4-1. Riley knows he's gone and his coaching staff is distracted by their own future. Practices must be a nightmare of going through the motions. Since the Northern Illinois game, the team has had four chances to play for pride, and there's been no burst of adrenaline or focus or players stepping up in the moment. There was one moment in the middle of the third quarter against Wisconsin — Nebraska had tied the game and the crowd was going nuts — where the season and perhaps Riley could have been salvaged. That was the moment when Wisconsin took a deep breath and calmly proved it was a much better team on both sides of the ball. That was the last of the last chances, imo.
