  1. Plus 1 if you're done with Mike Riley as the head coach of Nebraska football.

  2. I absolutely love reading posts on this site. I’m currently serving in the military and travel all over the country for schools and missions. Everywhere I go I sport my Husker red and try to find a place to watch the games. The gripe I have is people saying that we are not relavant, we can’t get great recruits, and we can’t get a good coach here. Those that are saying this are wrong. Everywhere I go people of all ages talk to me about Husker football. From the east coast to the west coast people know who we are. I’m telling you Nebraska is still a great brand and the country wants us to do well. We can get recruits here, we can get a great coach, and we can chase Championships. We may not get the 90s back, but we will be a powerhouse again. GBR!

  5. The comparison to Osborne that many like to use is a real head scratcher for me. If you go back and watch Osborne games, you see a coach who is extremely intense and invested in what is going on. Tom was anything but calm, he had a hurricane inside him which allowed him to get the best out of young players. They respected him and just looking at him got the point across. He could coach without raising his voice. Riley is only TO like on the very surface. If you scratch that you find a completely different man. He's a man with zero intensity and little pure desire to be the best. Watching him on sidelines is like watching a coach about to fall asleep. It's just an apples and oranges comparison when you get down to it.

  15. To put it plainly, your reaction to this and the sensationalized and misleading headline is the real 'sensitivity' you're referring to, and quite stupid. They're taking plaques out of the sanctuary where they could potentially be a distraction (especially the Lee one) or be confusing, and moving them to a different part of the church. I imagine the only thing this has to do with George Washington is that his plaque is part of a pair with a pack of Lee (someone who shouldn't be memorialized) and they balance the room. Nobody is "tearing down" anything. Nobody is coming for George Washington. Nobody is hiding these or taking out the history - they're moving two physical objects to a different room. I got all of this "not a big deal" info from your conservative news source. I didn't even need to look for a different article. But, even so, lol @ this: Democrats are bad and corrupt! Our President is being attacked! Here are powerful important famous people who agree with us! Our enemies in the fake news are all sexual miscreants! Take us seriously!

  22. Down 17-7. With a few seconds left in the half, NU throws a pass instead of kicking the FG??!!!Somehow they get 1 second left on the clock. Line up to kick and the OL false starts. .... Defense doesn't want to fill gaps verse Wisc. Rather dive at a guy. Cant line up correctly. Outflanked. its crap like that. Coaching 101 mistakes. No killer instinct. missed tackles galore. No pressure on the QB. Wilbon starting verse OSU. Same running play. No imagination. Toss sweep? Weak Oline. Backups better than starters. 60 pound advantage on the Oline verse NIU...let's not run at them. I wanted MR to win big in Lincoln (as I do all the NU coaches) but it's time to say goodbye. He won't win here. He's lost or already knows he's gone after the season. Bring in someone who can be fundamentally sound and get every ounce of the talent here.

  23. Saban and Meyers both have a history of success as coaches which means they have given people reason to believe they can turn it around and be successful again. This is not true for Riley and therefore there is no reason to believe he can. You cannot compare the three. You cannot compare their time at their respective schools to Riley's time at Nebraska. Just my opinion.

  24. Riley's age and Scott Frost's success are the reasons for the short leash. If Riley was under ~55 years old and Frost's record was .500, Riley would has 1-3 more years depending on his records. Why give him time to right the ship just so he can retire anyway?

  25. Good for Tanner Lee and the Cornhuskers for not quitting. A win is a win, so good for them. Tanner Lee vs Purdue: 32/50 - 431 yards, 2 TDs. 7/8 for 69 yards on the final drive. Great performance by that young man. However, this win doesn't change anything going forward for the Mike Riley coaching staff (except maybe Coach Parella) What did we learn?

  31. Beg to differ. Coaches are supposed to put their players in a position to win. It's up to the players to be motivated enough to perform.

  32. Purdue coach before the game gave big pep talk, motivating the team etc. Riley says "if we could run the ball some, and maybe block better, i think that would be a good thing" Are you f...ing kidding me ?? I feel bad for the players. they deserve much better coaching , direction , discipline, and motivation than they are getting. Moos clean house asap !

  33. How? How? How? How has MR managed to be a head coach for almost 30 years? Let alone get the keys to Nebraska? Is the CIA involved? There needs to be a federal commission to solve the issue.

  34. That's not true. At all. We have better talent than all of the teams in the B1G West, and all but three (or four, depending on service) in the B1G East. This is a coaching issue, pure and simple. Granted, we're not gonna win the B1G or a NC in year one, but we'll be a hell of a lot better.

  39. Your question can be answered in three letters, NIU! Losing to them was a deal breaker in year 3. Your program is not improving when in year 3 you lose to a MAC team. Saban lost to Rajun Cajuns in his first year, but that was a complete rebuild at that point. So bad losses do happen, but only when your in a total program turnaround. I think we gave Riley a benfit of the doubt in year one when he did lose alot of games. I think we expected better, and last year was some mild improvement, but still didnt compete against top tier teams. This season, game 1, we almost didn't beat Arky St. Then go and basically lay a huge duck egg in Oregon for a half. Losing to NIU was just a deal breaker. Oregon loss, was doable. NIU loss was not. I think at the end of the day, it was that lone loss that sealed his fate. If we were 4-3 right now, competed at home against Wisky and Ohio St, I think most or at least 50% of the fan base would have some sort of positive outlook at least for one more year. We didn't do that. All of this "soul searching" in the last two weeks coming from within this program makes me sick. All of a sudden when you job is on the line, your revamping lineups, doing more experiments in practice with different players and now coaching up some players, shows you what kind of a joke Eichorst was, and a fraud that this staff is overall. This was like they were here just housesitting.

  40. Learned that Tanner Lee is a man. Lindsay, Spielman and other young bucks are fun to watch and give big hope for the future. Our coaching staff is in way, way over their heads. Painfully so. Nebraska football is a long, long, long way from where any of us want it to be. I suspect/hope BillWinkle agrees with my last comment. Learned that many people mistake being happy with any Husker win automatically equates to low expectations and apathy.

  41. There’s clock management right there. You CANNOT switch personnel after not getting out of bounds because it allows the defense to substitute with a running clock. Purdue guy should have walked off the field. irrelevant now with the TD but coaching 101

  45. As others have stated, broadly speaking what area of the game have we seen marked improvement in by year 3? Where have we seen a serious regression? Punting, is about the only area that comes to mind in the improvement department. Diaco has coached up Lightbourn. On the other hand, Riley is an offensive coach and for two years we heard him give his stuff like"oh shucks, a mobile QB is a new and exciting component to our offense.". It was the working assumption Armstrong was just a band-aid to get us to their prototypical QB. Well here we are in year 3 and his offensive vision with his QB, chosen from a class of 3 capable guys is an anemic mess. Armstrong in retrospect was not a band-aid, but the main piece that salvaged a 50/50 system that doesn't seem to do anything well, consistently. We tried an injection of new coaches after year two and that didn't seem to help. Banker put out a more serviceable unit than Diaco. So where does that leave us in retaining Riley? Injecting more new assistants in the hopes it all comes together in year 4? Recruiting seems to be on the uptick, but is that enough to excuse the product we have seen in year three? Not for me. I wanted this to work and it hasn't. This isn't just a fire RIley to get Frost angle for me. It's a fire an inept coach and bring in anyone for a full reboot.

  46. It's HOW the team loses, and how things are trending that concerns me the most. If "new guy" comes in, and has losing records his first two years, but they are competitive and passionate in every loss, and little improvements seen each week/year, I'm willing to give "that product" more time to get pieces in place to turn the competitive losses into eventual wins. When you lose to NIU and are underdogs to Turdue in your 3rd year, you gots to go. Edit: Adding the fact that they aren't favored in any remaining game against mediocre teams... gots to go.
