  4. See the problem is that we don't want to do the work. We want everyone to have some semblance of control. I got a PM yesterday saying let the kids have their fun. The problem is if we let little things slide it ends up turning into this nonsense. Folks need to learn when enough is enough so the mods don't have to get heavy handed. Believe me, none of us want to go around hiding multiple pages of posts. Everyone needs to learn when it's gone to far. A big part of this is not responding to off topic posts. @Warrior10's post right above this is a great example (sorry to throw you under the bus). While the intention is great and I'm 100% behind it, the function is that the conversation continues (there's now an opening for another off topic response about if making jokes is ok or when it's ok etc). So even though the end thought is lets get back on topic we continue off topic. It is fine to take things to PMs. In fact it's encouraged. Being the fun police sucks, but there's only so much bs that people are going to wade through to read about SF. After that, we start getting tons of SF threads which the people that make the topic go off topic complain about which takes yet another thread off topic. Have your fun, make a comment or two but let it go.

  9. Bo was the same guy in 2007 that he was in 2003 and 2013. UNL money was fixated on him. Hopefully those same people aren't in charge anymore.

  11. I'm not sure why Osborne would ever have interviewed Jim Grobe, because he was always going to hire Pelini. Maybe as Plan C if Bo suddenly got a better offer, but if Bo said yes, he was always going to get the job.

  14. Are people seriously complaining about minorities peacefully protesting the poor treatment of their community by law enforcement and the government through kneeling during a song that admonishes slaves for joining the British during the war of 1812 because the British promised slaves freedom? GOOD GOD your lives must be pathetic. How does this affect your life in any shape or form? Can the mods move this to the Politics forum?

  17. At the time of Pelini's hiring, I don't think there were too many people who were "against the hire". He was the hottest coordinator in the country, leading LSU's defense as they won the national championship. Also, while Patterson had been doing a very good job at TCU, taking over the program from Dennis Franchione (remember, he was the one who led the TCU rebirth), this was Patterson was taking TCU to BCS bowl games as part of the Mountain West, and getting TCU into the Big 12. While Patterson has become one of the best coaches in the country over the last decade, it wasn't apparent that he would hit the heights he was going to at TCU.

  20. Today’s show was eye opening (I think). I’m just connecting dots, but from the Diaco quotes yesterday to the Banker response and then the morning show today, here’s my working theory. I think Bounds and Green saw first hand failures of SE and Devaney when they fired Banker and hired Diaco. That was when SE was put on notice - the athletic department review put him on watch. The first few games showed poor results and SE wrote his death sentence when he held the press conference. Banker didn’t like that Hawk Tackling implementation and if it was forced by SE and BD, like implied, I’m guessing Banker got into it with SE and BD and wrote his own check to be fired. Bounds and Green saw poor leadership by SE who didn’t know how to run the performance side of an AD, which is why SE hired Devaney - to guide him with football personnel moves. The Hawk Tackling cost the university $100,000 with no results to show for and a fired coach. Not a good leadership decision. Riley is the nice guy, company man, who had less control of his program and became a lame duck coach with coordinators who can’t show reasonable (reasons) development. I’m sure there are more examples of incompetence, but no way Moos can bring Riley back without losing the fan base and the sellout streak. This program is a dumpster fire, which is why I believe TO is serving as a liaison for Frost - if there’s interest in the soon to be job opening. No, TO won’t tell Frost to take the job, but I believe TO would encourage Frost to not return unless the athletic department is on good ground. TO won’t be involved in the process, but he will be connected enough to know where the state of the program stands.

  23. The Grobe story, supposedly, was not true -- but useful for Grobe. If Pelini were Plan A over Patterson, that was a baaad misjudgment.

  24. Hindsight being 20/20, this looks like a real wtf decision. But it still looked like a good one going into 2010/11...we all know Pelini flamed out and couldn't deal with the B1G. That said, after Bo and Miles, I'm not sure Osborne influencing any more coaching searches is a good thing.

  29. I just don't see Kelly as a fit in Lincoln. Not to mention it wasn't that long ago he claims he has been yet to be contacted by any college since he left Oregon. Sure he had the show clause and was in the NFL but it just seems colleges aren't as eager to deal with him as some of the fanbases are. Personally there are many coaches I would want in front of him when it came to the Nebraska job.

  31. The rumors are fun, but until we start seeing more smoke and our job actually opens up here that's all they really are. I think we all "know" the job is going to open, but we've been surprised before. One moment sweater vest is coming, the next moment Mike Riley is coming through the door. Good god I can still hear the "thud" of that hire.

  34. NU fans haven't always been "respected" as you think. NU fans have chanted "Sal is dead, Go Big Red!" at CU. NU fans have thrown frozen oranges on the field against Oklahoma (a number of times). Nebraska fans HATED Oklahoma in the 70s and 80s. It didn't become a "respected rivalry" until NU started winning regularly in the 90s, and OU sucked during that decade. NU fans have mainly started talking up how "respected we are" because NU isn't winning at the same clip we were in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. NU fans can't boast about a winning program, so NU fans start to boast about "intangible things". It's very similar how people like to boast about Mike Riley's intangibles, when his team struggles in the wins and losses department.

  35. So Gary Patterson is butt hurt over not getting the job back in 07? Or some Nebraska fans now butt hurt over Nebraska not hiring him back in 07? Almost looks like both to me.

  36. Baseball has largely been shielded from the controversy, but it's worth noting that the player given his own day every MLB season would likely back Kaepernick Jackie Robinson: 'I Cannot Stand and Sing the Anthem. I Cannot Salute the Flag' African-American baseball pioneer Jackie Robinson wrote in his autobiography that he couldn't sing the anthem or salute the flag because "I know that I am a black man in a white world." 28K CLAIM Baseball player Jackie Robinson said, "I cannot stand and sing the anthem. I cannot salute the flag; I know that I am a black man in a white world." RATING TRUE ORIGIN Baseball Hall-of-Famer Jackie Robinson, who died at the age of 53 in 1972, would simply be remembered as one of the greatest players of all time were it not for the color of his skin and the special circumstances of his career. On 15 April 1947, Robinson became the first African American to play major league baseball since the game became completely segregated in the 1880s. He had been hired away from the Kansas City Monarchs, a Negro League team, by Brooklyn Dodgers general manager Branch Rickey, who, in what came to be called “the noble experiment,” carefully orchestrated Robinson’s introduction to the general public, first via a stint with the minor league Montreal Royals, then by calling him up for his major league debut with the Dodgers at the start of the 1947 season. With the color line officially broken, the way was paved for more African American players to enter the major leagues, bringing 60 years of segregation in baseball to close. Jackie Robinson ultimately became a much-beloved public figure and an emblem for the changes in race relations that were gradually beginning to occur across America. Years later, Martin Luther King Jr. would honor Robinson as a “legend and a symbol” who “challenged the dark skies of intolerance and frustration.” What many people didn’t realize was how hard it had been for him. When he came to write his autobiography, I Never Had It Made, with Alfred Duckett in 1972, Robinson said he felt proud, but seemed bitter as well: Robinson wrote that despite developing genuine friendships with some of his teammates, and feeling genuine love from many of the fans, he had never stopped feeling like an outsider in his own game, and in his own country:

  41. I just wanted to point out that @jessica0 has been on this board since October and already has something like 238 rep points. I've been on here since December of 2005 and have 255 points. It always fascinates me how newbies can come on here and pretty much seem to dominate the board and then become the next "guru" on the board. I mean no harm by this post ... I actually was hoping a few folks would simply +1 this post so I can get out ahead of Jessica on the rep points. Thanks for any +1's. :-)
