  1. wait...frost doesn't have the top ranked recruiting class in the nation after 1 week on the job? do we need to get the pitchforks ready again?

  2. I think a few were gone long before the staff was fired.

  3. LOL a) you're right - he probably never will. Nebraska needs a coach that can do more with less. b) there's no way in hell we're stealing 5 4-star and 5-star players away from the likes of Alabama and Ohio State with 10 days/3 months left. You're living in an alternate reality where God's favorite team is Nebraska and he performs miracles on a daily basis just for His team.

  4. No, but @The Scarlet Pimpernel is right - current trends suggest you need to be an elite recruiter if you want to win a national championship. I don't think it does anybody any good to stick their feet in the dirt and suggest the recruiting rankings don't matter because they do to a degree. They're just not the end all be all. Coaching, culture and scheme play a significant role, as well. Nebraska has always been a school that needed to get the most out of presumably 'less' talent and that's what Frost is going to have to do if he wants to win a conference championship (let alone a national championship) at Nebraska. NU will likely never consistently recruit at the level of tOSU and Michigan. But, they never have to begin with.

  5. I know circumstances changed and coaches gone. Please let this be lesson to kids in the future don't commit with a video in memory of a lost family member because you may not stay committed to that school

  8. Why would this go to show anyone anything? He decided to honor his brother. I'm sorry but I disagree with this. Does it suck because he de-commited? Yes. Does this dishonor his brother in your opinion? He committed and there was certainly a ton of hype with it at the moment. Nothing wrong with decomitting and nothing wrong with giving your past family member some added attention. His decommitment is unfortunate, but nothing wrong with making a hyped commit video involving someone they cared about. Life changes, it will not be the last time his life changes.

  9. I just mean that the Heupel hire feels really similar to how it felt when Frost was hired for a lot of UCF fans. There's reason for optimism, but lots of question marks as well. Y'all might have known a lot about Frost when we hired him, but it came out of nowhere. We were hearing a handful of names, but Frost wasn't one of them. Once the announcement came out, UCF fans were cautiously optimistic. But there were some big questions, like can this guy with midwest/northwest connections recruit well in Florida? And can this guy design his own offense or is he just copying the guy copying Chip Kelly? Obviously, we got good answers to both questions, but Heupel feels like a similar balance of hope and questions. I've been called many things over the course of my life, but salty is a brand new one. How to incorporate that in my avatar...hmmm....

  11. Again, your expectation is ridiculous. This is a salvage operation. Other teams have over a year head start. They're offering the kids they know - the kids they have a chance on. This isn't what they're going to be doing in a normal recruiting cycle. It would be a huge waste of time for them to go after 5 stars this year, with 10 days left 'til the first signing period and 3 months 'til the final signing period. They need to use their time on players they have a much higher chance of landing. The kids they've already done legwork on, which happen to be mostly 3 star recruits. They can start going after more 4 and 5 stars for the 2019 recruiting class and beyond.

  12. Considering this this is the bulk of Wisconsin's team. And that they were a decent QB away from winning the BIG. I'll take those guys over a consensus 4 star who shows up over weight and never sees the field because he gets caught with weed. Talent and those sexy stars are great sure. But we had that with Callahan and that ended in disaster. So let's get back to who we used to be. The bolded part you said. Wisconsin has proven it works in the modern era. They have more BIG titles than we do using a program that is a clone of what we used to be.

  13. Their strategy and execution have been very impressive, although I'm not sure how impressed I am by some of the prospects they are after (based on their star ratings). I'd expect that to change for the 2019 class when Frost and his staff have more time to work on those top-flight guys. I don't know what Scott's plan is, but I'd keep this class on the small side since it's a "rushed" class. Save those schollies for 2019.

  14. Dude, we've gotten 3 5-stars this century. Lucky, Steinkuhler, and Aaron Green. Calm down your expectations. Nebraska has pretty much always recruited "mostly 3 stars." Frost isn't going to move our campus to California or Florida or Ohio or Texas or Georgia and suddenly start getting Top 5 classes.

  17. Ah, yes. I mis-read that. I do agree with that sentiment on this season. I actually think I said the same thing a few weeks ago.

  18. I think he meant the last month of this season, not the last month of seasons in general. I usually follow recruiting some, but I haven't bothered since it became obvious Riley would be fired.

  19. Plus as we have seen over the past 3 years, its just as much about how you can develop talent as it is landing big names. I think Frost and company can excel at both.

  21. Well I would assume they will try the same tactic next year depending on how things shake out this year. Probably go heavy Juco the first two years then start tapering down to 1 or 2 each year.

  22. I agree with this. I've enjoyed HB b/c of how classy and nice the fans are. It's rare to find fans that actually want to discuss and reasonably respond and admit when they are wrong. Most just want to see who can troll for the most responses. But the UCF Rivals board is not the cream of the crop for UCF fans. They were pretty easy to rile up before the coaching stuff, so add a bunch of "Husker fans" trolling and it's like a board full of cornered animals, even to the fans that come in peace. Honestly, the "Husker fans" that have been on there are (for the most part) so different than the Husker fans on here that I wouldn't be surprised if at least half were fans of other schools trying to make y'all look bad and/or trying to rile up the UCF fans. Do Iowa fans care that much about y'all? I wouldn't be shocked if a few were USF fans. None of them are displaying a wealth of knowledge about Nebraska.

  23. I don’t know about you all but I’m ready to win even if it means using monkeys riding ponies wearing tutus. And by winning mean a conference championship. I’m ok with lowering my expectations a bit.

  24. We've been outrecruiting Wisconsin for years. Maybe we should worry about just filling the 85 schollie limit with decent players and beating Wisconsin before worrying about elite recruiting.

  25. No one is really doing that. They're refuting your false statement and saying it's possible.

  29. You are aware this isn't really a debatable topic. right? Wisconsin is the leper in that group, they last won the conference in 2012 because the top two teams in their division at the time were ineligible. Go take a look at the rankings of the teams in the playoffs and get back to this topic.

  30. Never say never until signing day. I am disappointed but we can't get too wrapped up in these decisions. I want the new staff to find the players they want and that want to be part of Nebraska. If we stick to that I think we will find some special players. Would love to have Moore as part of that group. Let's keep hitting the recruiting trail. I see several guys I would be excited about still out there.

  32. Half of the 5 stars are just early bloomers. Full grown beards, basically fully grown adults playing against high school kids that aren’t developed yet. Then they go to college and flop because the late bloomers catch-up with them, and they lose their maturity advantage. it’s them 3 stars you have to look-out for.

  34. I sure wish it was possible to have all quotes from an individual hidden when they are blocked...even those that get quoted by someone else. It would do wonders for my blood pressure. :-) I agree Moraine....less than ten days in, with 10 more days till early signing...our chances of snatching away some 4 and 5 stars from Bama/ tOSU, etc, is almost nil......this year anyway.

  35. You think Nebraska used to be Wisconsin? You need to go watch some old Nebraska film, because those teams had athletes at the skill positions that Wisconsin would kill for. Wisconsin may have been a QB away from a B1G title, but they're a lot further than that away from a national title.... Which is what Frost said he came here to win. You guys who think recruiting elite talent doesn't matter are delusional. All you have to do is look at the recruiting rankings every year, open up another tab, and look who is making the Playoff, and winning national titles every year.... Nothing wrong with some 3-star guys on the team that bust their ass, but you better supplement some big time talent in there if you want to get "all the way back". Edit: And none of what I'm saying is an indictment on Frost, and what he's done thus far. I think he has a plan, and I trust it's going to work.

  36. Right, and I am saying it makes sense. They both won the lotto so why take high pressure, high stress gigs? If I won 10 million, like they did, I would sure work but I would also find something I really enjoyed doing. Not something filled with pressure and hounding.

  37. Every play in this vid, especially the helu, goodbye and the 3rd and 10 to open the 2nd half. They thought they were gonna beat us... lol

  38. This almost has to be what Frost feared the most. So the rumor that Frost wants more pay for his assistants is untrue? I hope Frost gets to finish this dream season for the players and he is their best shot but I can see where it's a bit sticky from a recruiting angle. It's kind of like a divorce, everyone should act in the best interest of the children. UCF needs to realize that their 2017 legacy will only be remembered by their record. They need to do whatever puts them in the best position to go 13-0.

  39. Heupel taking mizzou coaches with him before the bowl game!!! Ohhh the horror. Hopefully UCF fans tell these traitor coaches they don't want them near their school.

  40. There is literally nothing to chill about. It's ludicrous that they are calling out Frost for taking his ball and going home. A) Many of the staff members are Husker alums, what do you expect? B) The coaches that were UCF guys obviously had a legit reason to come to Nebraska. - They stayed a week and this is after "everyone" knew the staff was already leaving. - They waited until a new HC was hired at UCF. - They interviewed with the new HC to try and stay. + They either weren't offered their original job or they found out some stuff they didn't like, either way, how could you blame them? It's so crystal clear to me that they both wanted to stay. I'm sorry, I feel like @ATS Knight is probably a really solid dude, but is coming off quite whiny. Everything that has gone on is how this business works. Don't hate the player, hate the game. Yup. At the end of the day, UCF has a ceiling until they are in a P5 conference. They hit that ceiling this year.

  41. @ATS Knight I think the other thing people need to understand is one of the things that makes Frost a good coach is his competitive drive. Once he is committed he is going to give you 100%. I think he did that there and now he’s doing it here. You can’t “go easy” on anyone and be successful at this level. It sounds like you expected him to. That’s not the coach we hired or the coach you hired 2 years ago. Honestly, answer this question. Would you really have thought less of Frost if he had brought most of Oregon’s staff? Nope. You would have been glad you hired a coach people wanted to follow. Also the narrative of him “taking”the coaches has to stop. These are grown men(They’re 40!). He has not to my knowledge abducted them. As you said, it’s a testament to his leadership. The same leadership qualities which took you from 0-12 two years ago. If he was truly the Machiavellian villain ya’ll want him to be I doubt he would inspire that degree of loyalty. Obviously with the Becton tweets there is also something else rotten in Denmark as well.
