  1. Every State of the Union speech is loaded with bulls#!t. That's the formula. But no President has lied so bigly and so often on claims so easily disproven as Donald Trump. It's not even close. If you want to talk media bias, fair enough. If you want to talk facts, I'll stack the worst of the New York Times against any given morning of Fox & Friends. This is relevant, because Donald Trump immediately Tweets talking points from Fox & Friends as fact, when they're not, a habit that often throws his own staff and administration under the bus. It's easy to say all politicians are liars and everyone does it. But no, we've really entered uncharted territory for American checks and balances.

  2. I'm confused. Colin Kaepernick kneels during the national anthem, and it's an inexcusable affront to the brave men and women in our military and police forces. Donald Trump recklessly undermines the most respected law enforcement agency in America in an attempt to save his own ass, and the flag-wavers line up behind him. This is exhausting.

  3. It’s still maddening that a guy in his 60’s who has been coaching for decades was constantly arguing he needed more time. Diaco sounded like he had developed a drug problem. Cavanaugh sounded like he was poorly cast as an offensive line coach and is better suited to be a short order cook at a Waffle House. Lee is some combination of colorblind and near-sighted and yet he was still the starter. Players weren’t being developed or even required to work out. Frost’s first attempt to put the team through an actual college football workout almost killed two of our players. Let that sink in. That’s how bad Riley let things get here. So more time for what exactly? I’ve gone from seeing Riley as a kind of lovable and clueless loser who was doing his best to having far more contempt for him, his coaching, and his methods. We brought kids here to play big-time college football and Riley screwed them big-time.

  4. I talked with my Congressman, who was allowed to read the top-secret memo in question. He can't reveal details other than: Oh my God, what a childish attempt to cherry-pick evidence and conflate beyond all reason.

  5. You know what hits me the most about Trump's tweet - it isn't the brag/lie that it was the biggest - that is expected from Trump. However, his ringing endorsement/bragging on Fox News should send shivers down every free press loving patriot out there. While we known it to be true for some time that Fox is 'all in' on Trump for ratings - this just reconfirms that Fox will play the role of the propaganda agency on behalf of Trump - they will scratch each other's back. Trump gets his version of reality shown and Fox gets ratings fueled by non critical thinking Trump bots. Is it normal for a President to brag on one network? - I think not. Very dangerous when a president only 'trusts' and supports one news source. Ok - another inadvertent Hitler comparison that I just thought of: One of the main reasons, among many, Hitler lost WW 2 was that he refused to listen to his generals - the ones that had other ideas than his. Hitler thought of himself as a brilliant military strategist (sound familiar) - which he wasn't. Generals who opposed his ideas soon found out it wasn't a good career move to do so. Thus, Hitler became surrounded by yes men who supported his poor strategies. Trump does something similar - he doesn't value opposing views, esp strong opposing views. He cuts them down. In so doing he violates the wisdom found through the book of Proverbs in the Bible. He surrounds himself with media that supports him (Fox - the yes men) and cuts down others. The wise listen to the correction of others - what does that tell you about Trump.

  6. Time till deletion... Mav is in this forum every 5 seconds (probably not an exaggeration). I know he's got a lot on his plate, but if he hasn't seen a need to police anything, I'm not sure why Zoo has come flying in. We've had threads go 40 pages in this recruiting class alone... I'm sure there were very few gifs and general tom-foolery in 2000+ posts... (I'm slightly salty my post got deleted)

  7. Let's pretend for a moment that I'm a Trump supporter (don't cut and paste a portion of that statement!!) - pretending is still a scary thought but I digress -- and that I agreed with him 100%. If I was a thinking person (now thinking person and agreeing 100% is first clue there would be an internal conflict) and I saw Trump's manipulation of the media and I also watch nightly news and see dictators around the world manipulation of the their media - it would scare the crap out of me by what I see Trump doing. So this is beyond policy - we can discus the give and take and merits of policy all day long but the manipulation of the Co-First Right (Freedom of Religion and Freedom of Press) strike at the core of who we are as a people and a nation. It is not patriotic to stand up for the president as fox news does when in so doing they are re-enforcing forces that mean to destroy our most sacred of rights - freedom of the press. Does that mean the press is pure as the driven snow - no - but that isn't the issue. Allow the press to be the press and it will eventually be 'self balancing' esp in this age of multiple media sources. But prop up one voice as the president does, and we risk exposure to being "unbalance and unfair" (yes intended pun on Fox's slogan). The result - a misinformed electorate that will vote itself into danger. (you know many dictators were firstly voted into power by a misinformed electorate who didn't know what they were getting themselves into)

  9. Hilarious lie by Trump, whose fragile ego forces him to exaggerate. Note the plug for yellow journalism's poster child as well. https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/tv/2018/01/31/trump-ratings-first-state-union/1084900001/ http://deadline.com/2018/01/state-of-the-union-tv-ratings-donald-trump-barack-obama-1202274787/ http://www.latimes.com/business/hollywood/la-fi-ct-trump-ratings-20180131-story.html

  10. I have never seen so many Reputation Points awarded in a single thread, so I assumed it was full of awesome posts on a really controversial subject. It's not and it's not. Weird. +1 if you agree.

  11. I haven’t been impressed with our current group of running backs. The problem is that we could have 20-year old clones of Emmitt Smith, Barry Sanders, and Jim Brown on the roster and Riley and Co. would have made them look mediocre through crappy player development, terrible blocking, clueless playcalling, and a general inability to use resources effectively. We’ll just have to wait and see.

  12. I find it amusing that SE took shots at Iowa, got drubbed by them under his watch, then tried to bail on the BF game with them because of it. On another note. I think keeping Iowa is a good thing on BF is a good thing. I know Wisconsin sounds cool, but travel for that game would be harder on the fans, as it's almost double the drive. And for me personally, I'll echo the sentiment above. I love the BF game, and my family basically does a 2nd Thanksgiving each year around it.

  13. Kinda getting the feeling right now based on what I'm reading for this staff it's less plan A plan B and more: we got a pool guys we think are good enough and whoever commits gets the spot available. Perhaps we take this kid and Palmer both depending on how things shake out elsewhere and both wanna be here. Can never have enough Corners imo, at least that's philosophy with my team on NCAA 14.

  14. that's the way it always is. people complain about their governments...except in countries where the strongman with a fragile ego in charge makes that against the law. if people bashing trump hurt your feelings i can only tell you to toughen up buttercup.. lol

  15. RIGHT ON AND WELL STATED. But not just foresight - looking backwards is equally important. Let me explain. As you know, I enjoy reading history - American history in general and presidential history in particular (Great men/women move/make history and history revolves around them). My wife wonders why I like history so much (boring), she loves novels. I just tell her that well written history is like a novel but true. So when you understand history, you understand the cycles of history, you can gain wisdom to understand what is going on today. I loved reading the book American Lion about Andrew Jackson - not because I liked him but it gave a lot of good insight into him. When I first heard others and Trump himself comparing himself to Jackson, I began to get pretty nervous about it - in fact I believe I made a post about those comparisons shortly after reading the book. Trump doesn't read much at least not in the areas he needs too. I suspect his deepest followers have little real knowledge of history as well. That is why they can so easily ignore actions that dishonor the OFFICE and they don't understand the forces at work. Human nature as a collective, doesn't change much and therefore human action as a collective can be somewhat predictive - if we have ears to hear and eyes to see and not get blinded by our biases.

  16. Exactly. What people who support Trump fail to see is that the power they're OK with Trump having is going to be given to the next president, and the next, and what happens when that president is ideologically opposed to their politics? The lack of foresight from Trump supporters is astounding. Whether you like the guy currently in power or not, it is in your best interest to check the power of the presidency no matter who is in charge.

  19. I’m still waiting for the memo from the NCAA warning member institutions that it is inappropriate to have creepy doctors digitally penetrating little girls and pretending it is some form of treatment. Apparently they knew what was happening at Michigan State years ago and did nothing to stop it. As far as I’m concerned the NCAA is a complete joke and they can all go and **** themselves.

  20. I wish I was capable of living in a fantasy world too. Then I wouldn't have to feel angsty about the country becoming less democratic by the minute and the executive branch attacking the intelligence agencies and media, and Trump's campaign buddies writing Super Secret Explosive memos in order to pull the wool over people's eyes.

We have 100 sprinters out for our track team and if our football guys are not baseball guys they have to go run track. It has been a great benefit for our football and track team.

  25. I really did think Wilbon was our best runner last year. Bryant is the more complete back but with the ball in his hands, Wilbon can do things. Our RB rotation will be interesting to watch this year. I'm not holding my breath on Bryant but he, Wilbon and Bell is a nice trio to have.

  26. As previously stated, one tenant of yellow journalism is to put large emphasis on minor stories. Fox is consistently guilty of this. No one was arguing that Yellow Journalism doesn't exist.

  27. It wasn't. They depicted a caricature of the event, not a basic recitation of the facts. It wasn't the best example, but it was an example worthy of the tenor of this thread, and at least as indicative of yellow journalism as the one in the OP. Both were facts, just skewed to a certain audience. I find it odd that so much time is being expended to defend Fox News, who are, as you describe, the current "king of yellow journalism."

  30. This might be off topic some. But, the entire "Democrats sitting on their hands" talking point is pretty ridiculous. That's how these things work. The party of the President gives him a standing ovation every 30 seconds while the other side rarely, if ever, stands and claps. I'm puzzled why people find this odd in any way. Have people never watched the State of the Union address?

  33. You don't remember 45? Yes, at Obama in 2009 at a joint address to Congress. It was a great example of the GOP treating the sitting president with respect. Also, as you watch the video check out the blank stares and stony faces of the GOP. The fact that people are mentioning that the Dems were out of line at this week's SOTU don't seem to remember that the opposing party does this every year. http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/09/09/joe.wilson/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Wilson_(American_politician) https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/11/us/politics/joe-wilson-you-lie-obama-town-hall.html And here's the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgce06Yw2ro

  35. I have higher standards for elected officials than Joe Schmoe off the street. Personally, I bear you no ill-will if you use that word. For the President of the United States to do is entirely a different matter. It's really no business of mine why people decide to come here. If they choose to leave their homeland to try to come here & live the American dream, more power to them. I certainly hope people don't question my motives if I ever decide to leave the U.S. I don't see why we should do it to others. Durbin is one of two people who headed up an immigration bill that could possibly muster enough votes to become law. That's his intent. Trump torpedoed that bill for one his hard-right flank is pushing on him, even though the former is broadly popular & the latter is extreme & will never get 60 votes.

  37. My guess is that Epley was toeing the company line and saying what Eichorst asked him to. Eichorst did a favor to Epley and brought him back in the fold at NU, and Epley was probably asked to defend Riley and make comments about needing more time. "Needing more time" was generally the common theme during the Riley era.

  38. If we're being really honest, a lot of people would call Haiti a s#!thole. Even people living in Haiti. But if we're still being honest, a lot of people would call Nebraska a s#!thole. Donald Trump wouldn't set foot in a most red states without a motorcade rushing him to a cheering auditorium. So if the person who is setting policy for your s#!thole country or s#!thole state calls it a s#!thole, it's not the word that offends you so much. It's the confirmation that he couldn't give a s#!t about you.
