  1. Can't remember the name, but heard he has a huge arm, and played a couple years at Tulane.

  2. I disagree. The previous staff put all their eggs in a basket that had a huge gaping hole in it, in the form of grades. They let another instate kid go to our division rival over what seems to amount to him not meeting some arbitrary system archetype Mr. Bob "Strain" Diaco had.

  4. Riley and his staff put all their eggs in a basket that was a high risk to qualify from the jump, while ignoring an equally as talented DT who was just down the road from the stadium, among others. So yes, this situation can be squarely blamed on him.

  11. You have to know this isn't how this works. People that work in intelligence don't just go throwing around sources for no reason. They're protected & sheltered for a reason. This is what can happen when you get careless (or act with malevolent intent) with sources. Thanks to one guy we lost a huge chunk of intel capabilities inside the borders of one of our fiercest geopolitical rivals. Why does Carter Page, under surveillance since 2013 for dealings with Russian intel agency SVR, have any more reason to not be outed any more important than Chris Steele? I like to think Trump wakes up every day wondering "How can I make Paul Ryan look more pathetic and spineless than he did yesterday?" The funny thing is that would preclude us from listening to anything Paul Ryan says. There is no way in God's green earth Paul Ryan wanted Trump to win in 2016. Paul Ryan after his No 2 says he thinks Putin pays Trump: “No leaks. . . . This is how we know we’re a real family here.”

  14. It's hard to disprove a wealth of information like that, even if it's also difficult to verify it. But several parts of the dossier have been shown to be true, which damages the argument that the whole thing is a biased, partisan nothingburger. Here is a good summary of what has & hasn't been shown to be true. Bear in mind, though, that they are likely still researching a lot of the things at the bottom of that list. I've also seen a couple GOP intellectuals arguing online that it was wrong for Page to have been surveiled on the basis of the dossier because it was information funded by Democrats. That argument doesn't really hold up either - the Washington Free Beacon, hardly a liberal publication, was the first place to fund it. And the FBI trusted Steele enough to nearly pay him continue to work his sources for stuff they could ALSO try to verify independently. It's not as if they took everything they received from Steele as gospel. But it would be foolhardy to ignore it.

  15. How many you score and how many you give up is ultimately not important in an alternate possession game, it's the margin in terms of possessions that matter. On a per possession basis, UCFs defense was quite underrated. It's a shame that football analytics has not more fully embraced possession based statistics while we still post useless stats like time of possession in every box score.

  21. Believe me when I say I say this without a lick of hyperbole: Carter Page is quite possibly the stupidest individual involved in the Trump orbit. But it's also an indictment of whoever decided he should be involved in the Trump campaign that he was even in that orbit. I can't believe we have a bunch of Republicans gnashing their teeth about surveilling someone like this. Seems like the only reasonable thing to do.

  22. Avery would have been N if we didnt have all our eggs in with Masry. Avery and Daniels are very close friends and wanted to play together in college. This is a Riley screw up plain and simple. Im sure there is more to the story but you dont turn away a top 200 player for an academic risk.

  23. I have never been comfortable gauging economic success solely on the stock market, and most economists aren't either. While the flow of capital into entrepreneurial enterprise is great, that's not what it's about anymore. Instead of long-term investment it's short term gambling, where the institutional investors can get away with stuff the private dabblers and 401K crowd can't. The stock market loves layoffs, downsizing, out-sourcing, offshore accounts, and robots. It paints a very different picture than the jobs-loving stump speeches like to paint. When there's a correction, it will be the predictable result of Wall Street coddling under both Obama and Trump. Investors really did get excited about the likelihood of further deregulation and tax cuts under Trump, but the speculation that creates a 26,000 Dow isn't backed by actual money. or mathematics. If you took the true meaning of Conservatism to heart, it wouldn't abide much of anything going on.

  24. I'm a huge fan of using net yards per play although admittedly, I feel this is a little more accurate for NFL teams since college teams have such wide varying strengths of schedule. That being said, NYPP is still a pretty good indicator.

  27. The only issue I have with “letting him go”, if that’s what is happening, is that Poly kids typically only go to schools with an established Poly presence. He could’ve been the start of that pipeline if he wanted N.

  28. I’m not going to get in the statistical semantics, but I think points per possession scored and allowed would be the best indicator for offense and defense efficiency. It takes TOP out of play and gives a good indicator on how effective your team is when you have the ball and when you are defending the ball. Teams can artificially inflate their TOP by playing slower on offense (see Mike Riley tenure).

  30. I've never studied it but it seems to me time of possession is more of a response than a predictor. If your offense is doing well, you have a higher TOP. If your defense is doing well, you have a higher TOP. Therefore if your TOP is high then you're probably winning. But that doesn't mean high TOP should be some goal to reach for. It happens as a side effect. (This gets complicated if your offense likes to score TDs in 2 minutes).

  36. Besides, celebrating one month's worth of wage gains, while no doubt a good thing, is essentially a fool's errand. I'm no statistics wiz... Moiraine could probably explain it far better than I... but getting worked up, either way, about a single data point isn't a great idea. Show me sustained wage growth, over a period of years, and I'll start to buy the GOP talking points about this tax bill.
