  1. I am a cook in a restaurant, the other day I opened a loaf of bread from one of our vendors and there was a bit of mold on the heal. The rest of it looked just fine, good texture, color, not stale at all. I tossed the whole loaf, felt a little guilty about it, there was probably some good pieces in there, pieces that could have contributed to nice club sandwich, or double stacked grilled cheese w/bacon. In the end however it was that speck of mold that forced my hand into thinking the whole loaf was contaminated and had to get thrown out. I wanted to put out a product I felt confident with. Opening a fresh loaf gave me that confidence.

  2. The husker fans mindset, "everyone on the coaching staff was horrible except parella. Parella is a Nebraska boy and Nebraska boys are never bad." Sorry, but parella didn't improve the dline and he was just as bad as the rest of the coaching staff. Just because he's a Nebraska man doesn't mean he gets exempted from being an average to below average coach.

  3. Yes, you're quite the pioneer.... That team caught fire for a month, and played above their heads. They were never as good as they looked that month, and the proof of that is what happened the following year. You think this team will fall off next year if Palmer, Copeland, Watson, Roby, and the rest of the underclassmen return? Highly unlikely, in my opinion.

  6. Yeah, supposedly Diaco gave hardly any time to position drills. And Parella and D. Williams wanted a much more aggressive style of play, but Diaco wouldn't have it.

  7. Was supposed to fly to Cancun this morning. Woke up at 1am, puked on and off til 4am. Needless to say I was not getting on a 8am flight. Wife called Delta, explained the situation, and they changed us to tomorrow with no charge (didn’t think that was possible in this day and age). Woke up from a “nap” a bit ago feeling much better. Hoping tomorrow will be a go...

  8. I don't doubt one bit that Mike Riley wanted to win and win at an elite level. He just showed that he couldn't surround himself with a staff that would allow him to do it. Or hold his players to a regimine that would allow them to do that. Or gameplan and make adjustments that would result in it. Or....

  9. Not only that, but certain people here have a difficult time comprehending that under Riley/Diaco, the DLs primary job was to eat blocks so LBs could make plays. They did that by "squeezing" the pocket and keeping the QB contained within said pocket. If they got pressure as a by-product of sqeezing and containing, then bonus but "getting pressure' wasn't their job in Diaco's scheme.

  10. In reality, with the brain trust that was Riley, Langs and Diaco, IMHO it is truly hard to accurately gauge the competencies of any of the position coaches. Throw in the rumors/comments about the level of conditioning and there is only so much an assistant can do with that.

  11. People often talk about talent and development like they are mutually exclusive. The goal should be both. Stock pile top 15 talent, then develope them properly.

  12. Agreed. Been saying the same for weeks. One loss in these last few games will wipe NU out of the “first or next four out” real fast. Keep playing good team ball and need to run the table. And Tuesday will be a battle more than some are thinking.

  16. I think development and coaching are huge. Look at Wisconsin, they are beating teams they shouldn't because they develop the right way and coach some underrated guys up. Nebraska needs to develop players better and coach them up so they can succeed. Honestly, we have the talent on this roster, best in the west in my opinion and according to the recruiting rankings. So its about time we start holding our weight and winning football games. There are countless guys that I am waiting to see live up to their potential, and I think in year one we will see some big-time offensive and defensive line improvements. Another factor with development and I think this gets overlooked is belief. Nebraska needs to go into big games playing to win and buying into what Scott wants them to do. If the players are properly prepared and coached they will overcome the talent deficiency. See Auburn and them getting pushed around by UCF, Frosts team believed they could win and bought in and guess what they won. To answer that question on Georgia, no we can't beat them right now and yes they have better players that they recruited. Georgia has an unreal class that is better than OSU's which is also insane! It is a transition year and so things may take a little getting used to before we start seeing great results. Will it take 5 years? No, but we can and will get better talent here. With the superb coaching and development, that will make a top 15 class beat a top 3 class.

  18. I don't think anyone is "exempting" him. With the stories that have come out about how Riley and Diaco tied the assistant's hands (Williams, Parella, etc) and wouldn't let them do any actual coaching or teaching...I'm willing to give Parella the benefit of the doubt. Just like I'm willing to give Deonte Williams (former DB coach) the benefit of the doubt.

  19. Parella had a complete dline scheme change on him...to say that he didn’t improve the line is utterly unfair. As for your other comment.... im fairly certain that the fans wanted the williamssssss to stay as well. The general mindset was that diaco, cav, and Riley were the problem. Wow how quickly people make blanket statements.

  20. We have people in this thread that think Gebbia will start next year over 2 players that ran this offense in high school and another person claiming our only Heisman winning QB wasn't the best QB on his own team...

  21. I just came across this, sorry for the bump if you were finished, but I felt the need to reply since I went to both schools! I would agree with the comments above about both being on similar footing academically. Both are fun towns, but have quite different atmospheres once you leave campus. I am partial to both, grew up in WY, lived in NE 7 years and now live near Loveland. To me it comes down to a couple things: 1. If what she wants to major in is better at UNL, that is one leg up there. 2. I think everyone should go away somewhere to live on their own once in their lives. It allows you to learn more about yourself and build life skills by having to figure things out on your own. UNL is not far enough that it would inhibit travelling back and forth. My hometown is in the Black Hills and it is a similar drive to Lincoln than it is from here. I got back for major holidays and one summer. My parents came a few times also. The allure of her friend might be a deciding factor. My best friend in HS went to WYO in Laramie, but I wasn't about to let cheap Husker tickets get away for 4 years! We are still good friends to this day even with going to different schools. Good luck with the decision!

  24. I can appreciate the humor in the irony . But there is a huge difference between the two staffs. One was routinely finding themselves in the bottom 50% of the PAC12, the other just came off of an undefeated season and major Bowl win.

  25. All the games are scary. Maryland is fighting to get on the bubble. Illinois plays a style unlike any othe B1G team and hasn't given up on their season. Morgan from Indiana can take over a game. Penn State is in the same boat as us except they have a little more work to do.

  26. Ok. I think I figured it out but it might be wrong. He played for Arizona Western last year, then transferred to Independence CC for whatever reason. So he may have been on last chance you for Arizona Western. If this guy wants to be on the team it would be as a walk-on. He went 6-12 from field goals and 27-33 on extra points. That does not scream scholarship player to me.

  27. Why is curling not more popular? It's basically just shuffleboard on ice, requires little physical conditioning, conducive to having a beer in hand, and when you get tired you have a broom to lean on. Count me in.

  28. That is a valid point and he may take the spot - Feel like if he was available this year it may go his way. Starting next year we will continue to add talent and he will be trying to take the spot from a 1 year starter. Kind of feel like he will be the 2018 version of BB - without the ending.

  29. Obviously it isn't exactly the same, but they ran stuff with similar QB running game demands. What other way do we have to evaluate these players except what they did in high school? Also, internet tough guy, you don't have to come on here like billy bad ass and tell me to "stop". I can promise you I don't now nor will I ever care what you think.

  30. I don't envy coaches when these kinds of players come around. Nine time out of 10, I strongly oppose the idea of 'just put a guy out there and see what he can do' because I believe the vast majority of players carry what they do in practice over to game days. But, then you have players like these two who just push all that to the side and make a difference. Sort of random, but the one play I remember most from LD's career was that 4th and Short stop against PSU. I think it was the game after all the Sandusky stuff came out.

  35. Count me as one who thinks Gebbia starts. He's just mobile enough, seems fairly accurate, but the biggest part is that he's a film junkie. That, to me, is going to be the thing that edges him out over others. The QB is going to have to think fast. So, i think with the time he allegedly puts in with watching film, he'll be able to have a better feel for a game. I'm also thinking that Crouch wasn't really the best at QB. The Heisman race that year was really pretty damned weak, and the only reason they gave it to EC was because he caught a pass. I wont argue that he was damned good, but it will also leave a sour taste in my mouth about how it seems like he pouted his way back into the position.

  40. I’m not going to get in the statistical semantics, but I think points per possession scored and allowed would be the best indicator for offense and defense efficiency. It takes TOP out of play and gives a good indicator on how effective your team is when you have the ball and when you are defending the ball. Teams can artificially inflate their TOP by playing slower on offense (see Mike Riley tenure).

  41. How many you score and how many you give up is ultimately not important in an alternate possession game, it's the margin in terms of possessions that matter. On a per possession basis, UCFs defense was quite underrated. It's a shame that football analytics has not more fully embraced possession based statistics while we still post useless stats like time of possession in every box score.
