  3. Hi, @1994 Husker First, thanks for your service! I've been to any Fan Days over the years, and like @Enhance said, I've posted pictures of many of them here. Depending on my schedule I'll do it again this year as well. They change the format just about every year, but in general the field is laid out like this, from 2010: You have your position groups in various parts of the field, lines snake around the field for each group, and it's very difficult to get through more than two groups in the 90 minutes allotted for Fan Day. Like others have said, the line for the Head Coach is very long, stretching the length of the field every year. The two lines down the center of the field in this 2010 photo are for Bo (one line) and for the assistant coaches (the other line). You wouldn't, for example, be able to get through both of these lines in 90 minutes. The crowd is a little sparse in this picture, but that is not the norm. Usually the field is chock full of people, like in this 2014 photo for Bo's final year when fan interest was waning again: I took that picture from the West Stadium where the Freshmen usually sit. If you're going, and you want to get some early autographs, that line isn't usually as long because most folks don't know the Freshmen sit up there. The lines are ALWAYS long to get in, because only four gates are open (one on each corner of the stadium, usually). People arrive hours early and wait in line. It's tough on kids, and it's helpful if you have two adults available - one to watch the kids and one to run for food/drinks while waiting to get in. Here's the line in the north parking lot waiting to get into Gate #3 (top left corner of the diagram above) from 2015: Like most people are saying, expect this to be the craziest, and longest line for the Head Coach that we've seen in... probably forever. While the line usually goes the length of the field, sometimes it doubles back and is longer than 100 yards. It will easily be that long this year, and probably much longer. If you want to get Coach Frost's autograph, odds are good that is the only one you'll get. And unless you get there really early, it's very possible that you could wait in that line the entire time and still not get his autograph.

  4. If we were talking about professional sports that are businesses designed to create profits, then I'd agree with you. But we're talking about universities that are supposed to be about learning. How is a revenue metric even relevant for a university? An equally valid question is: why not eliminate revenue in university sports? Answer: because it provides funds for additional learning opportunities outside the specific sport making money. That's how you end up talking about fairness and equality - fairness and equality in opportunity of education. If we're not talking about sports in the university as part of education and learning, then split those sports out as minor league teams and let them profit or fold as a business.

But it's easy to refute your claim, so here's the first link in a google search (bolded in quote to refute that your claim that boys are somehow ignored in school): Boys vs. girls: What's behind the college grad gender gap?

  10. Phillips made a point to say that NU’s done a good job of recruiting in-state players. But he also said that “if Nebraska had offered me six months ago, I probably wouldn’t have made that trip to Stanford in the first place.” But NU didn’t. So Phillips took the trip. And he’ll attend Stanford. (from 2015) http://www.omaha.com/huskers/blogs/recruiting-harrison-phillips-picks-stanford-over-nebraska-k-state/article_6d2f6fa0-083c-5130-86b2-e7724482f3db.html IMHO, I do not think kids like this will be leaving for lack of or a late offer from Frost and Co. They might go elsewhere, but not from lack of a timely offer....

The Oven has great Indian food and a nice cocktail bar downstairs. Leadbelly's is an awesome American Bistro with good burgers (Raspberry Beret, get it!) The Wateringhole opned up another location in the Haymarket, great grilled wings. Hiro 88 has good sushi Those are the one I can think of when I was back for Christmas...

  12. Dunno. Depends on what Moos has set in his mind for criteria. If Miles needed to make the NCAA tourney to keep his job safe, he most likely didn’t do that. Yes we had substantial improvement, but history shows that won’t be sustained next year. Frankly, I’m to where I am indifferent about giving Miles another season. We’ve been flirting with competence under Miles but whenever the big games happen, we typically show little in the way of preparation, progress, or a positive/loose mindset. Don’t know that Miles has the basketball mind to make the improvements necessary for sustained success. It’s as if Miles is a much nicer version of Bo Pelini—he can build up win totals and occasionally steal a game from a better team, but when the spotlight is on the team, they usually crap the bed (unless we’re at home). Bottom line: Nebraska basketball and its fans deserve measured, sustained progress and a coach that can make the adjustments and win the big games away from home. I don’t think we have that, sadly.

  14. If I were a kicker I'd be entirely against this. If you spend years and years practicing to have the ball have as much hang time and land as close to the one yard line, that is a money making skill the NFL looks for. The rule making committee sure tries to bend over backwards to make it seem like they are all for player safety. What they are doing is chipping away at the game until there is no more game left.

  21. For BBQ you want Phat Jack's on West O. Best in the state. D'Leon's is good, but if you want a breakfast burrito, you want The Lincoln. Redux is right, the West O location is the original and best. All of them are owned by the same family, but some are owned by the brother's side and are slightly different. All are good. For breakfast, the Green Gateau downtown is good, especially on Sunday, but there's also Cooks Cafe, Penelopes Little Cafe, and (for a greasy spoon), Hiway Diner on Highway 2. There are tons of pub joints in the Haymarket and all are fine. Vincenzo's in the Haymarket is probably Lincoln's best Italian food. A lot of it depends on what you're hungry for.

  22. They've changed up the format subtly over the last several years but the general format has been pretty consistent - player lines are set up on the outskirts of the field by position group. Brand new recruits sit up in the stands at a table. The head coach usually sits in a tent right by the north end zone and a line for him extends all the way to the southwest exit. They usually put all of the assistant coaches around the 50-yard line so people can get those and then stay in line to get the head coach. As a general rule of thumb, you'll need to pick and choose what matters most to you. If you just want Frost (and don't want to stand in line for hours before the gates open) then Frost might be the only autograph you have time to get. You'll be standing in that line almost the whole time if you're not one of the first in the door. If you do get in line hours before the gates open and you're one of the first to get the coach's sig, you may have time to get sigs from one or two other position groups. Just keep in mind that thousands of fans come, this year is probably going to be on steroids by comparison to last year and they usually only give something like 60-90 minutes for autographs. PS - IIRC @knapplc has taken photos from some in the past and posted them on the board

Are you going to propose an RPI metric for the Sweet 16? I'll help you out - last year all of the Sweet 16 teams were in the top 30 in the RPI.

  31. It's the difference between formal and informal address for me. When I'm introducing my boss to someone in a formal setting, It's "This is my boss, Robert Debondehaven." But when I'm introducing him to someone in a familiar setting, it's, "This is my boss, Bob." Nebraska Cornhuskers is the formal name, what you should lead the article or broadcast with. After that, Huskers is OK. If an announcer uses "Cornhuskers" all game long it seems unnecessarily formal, as if we're not part of the club, outsiders. It always made me feel like they were talking about their buddy, someone personable and approachable, when they call us Huskers after the game starts. It always seemed like Keith Jackson would revert to calling us the Huskers as the game wore on.

  32. Yikes! I understand your point, but please never put Frost on the same level as MR. Frost inherited a 0-12 team, and was a first time HC. Winning 6 games was very good. MR would have found a way to have a record worse than 0-12. I believe it will take time to recover from the mess MR, SE and their accomplices left behind, maybe all we get is six wins this year, but it will be a momentum building year ... I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

  33. There is nothing wrong with using both names just as we do now. Huskers is great for cheers, etc. but Cornhuskers is our legacy and heritage and the team represents the state of Nebraska and derived its name from the crop which is the very lifeblood of the state's economy, etc. Without our irrigated corn, Nebraska would essentially be South South Dakota economically. There is nothing to be ashamed of and certainly much for all Nebraskans and Nebraska fans to be proud of. It is completely apolitical and represents the hard working productive people who annually harvest the most useful and valuable renewable commodity on the planet!

  37. I tried a cardio campaign a couple of years ago, walking a minimum five miles a day, just about every day, for about 14 months. Didn't change my eating habits at all, and I didn't lose any weight at all. I badly hurt my back at the end of that (which is why I stopped) and I really haven't done much by the way of exercise in the past two years. Haven't really changed my eating habits much, but I did start drinking quite a bit more wine. I've lost about 15lbs since hurting my back. Which pretty much goes to show you that nature is evil and much of your weight is genetic.
