  1. I was bored and wanted to take a closer look at in-state recruiting for P5 teams. Made a metric scale on composite ratings per player - also subtracted points if other D1 schools in your state and divided the total number by other P5 teams in your state. I understand some states are in a region where border states have been established or are 'hot beds'. Some P5 teams aren't quite as equal either. If you could only recruit in your state, what type of recruiting numbers are we looking at for P5 schools? 2. Ok, I'm sorry I made you all wait for this and it's probably not going to be as in depth as you'd like but here goes. Coach Frost - Opened the clinic real positively by emphatically praising the number of coaches in attendance (640 which spanned across many states) - Emphasized playing and practicing fast, attacking each piece of the program fast - Showed us film of UCF and how he likes to formation people to death. The more formations the more opponents have to spend time in practice lining up. - Each one of his playcalls fall under the categories of "Tempo", "Motion", or "Unique Formation" - Emphasized relationships and made the comment about each player has a story, he wants to know each one. Coach Duval (Best one of the day) - This guy will completely change the culture of the weight room for NU. - Left in 2001, said this place was unrecognizable when he got back - Absence of Husker Power Logo (lifter squatting) - Praised Mike Arthur and Boyd Epley - Increase Lean Body Mass, decrease body fat - emphasis on lifting heavy and emphasis on vertical jump (if Vert is improved, everything else will -- Pro Agility, 10 yd dash, 40 yd dash etc) - Khalil Mack at Buffalo - As freshman weighed 219, 15% BF, 32 inch Vert --- As Senior weighed 265, 7% BF, 42 inch vert -- Squatting 900 lbs - No offers but Buffalo as senior in HS Coach Held - Talked about RB's - vision lining up with Frost - talked about various technique and Inside Zone scheme. Play fakes - Phenomenal coach Coach DeWitt - Outside backers are in special hands. - OLB's have to play various technique - Head up TE, Outside TE, etc... - Shock - Lock - Escape (engaging blockers and shedding) - Everything about this position is VIOLENT - won't have it any other way - CTS/DVE (Collision the S#!T out of them/Deny Vertical Entry) - fancy way of jamming receivers - rerouting is with feet and body, not hands I unfortunately missed practice the next morning due to the coaches social the night before. You know how that goes. Wasn't too happy about it, but I just can't handle the next day anymore like I used to if I go to hard the night before. Sorry! I know it's probably not exactly what you all wanted but the bottom line is that this thing is in great hands. I could feel the culture being changed while I was there. I've been to a Pelini Clinic and a Mike Riley Clinic, and man oh man...my eyes were opened to a whole different world when it comes to college coaches. These guys have the "it" factor and each one I heard speak talked about unified vision and their love for Coach Frost and how Scott is an incredible human being to his players. The theme that kept coming up was RELATIONSHIPS. With players, staff, community.

  4. Fantastic piece by Bruce Feldman. He did a fabulous job of encapsulating the energy, the optimism, and excitement coming from Husker Nation. We are so proud to have a hometown coach who gets the culture. Looking forward to a great season! https://www.si.com/college-football/2018/04/17/scott-frost-nebraska-huskers-turnaround-ucf-oregon?utm_campaign=si-ncaafb&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=social&xid=socialflow_twitter_si

  5. I found this this afternoon, not sure what thread to put it in. But I know I didn't want it to get buried in status updates, especially since you can't see the video from the front page.

  6. Kinda sucks for them. They lost a chance for 5-7 when Riley was fired.

  7. As stated before, he's not a traditional Nebraska kid, so he has no in-state bias. There is also no player that is a "must get" because none are bigger than the program. There are other talented players out there.

  8. They have all sucked. That's why there hasn't been a conference championship trophy in the case since 1999.

  9. Agree with both of the two comments above. The Democrats are not the solution, they're just the less crazy of the two parties at the moment. So while we should resist the naked corruption and awfulness of the Republicans, if/when the Democrats come back to power they need much watching as well.

  10. In truth, Lawrence Phillips had the trophy locked up in 1995 before everything went down with that. I have always felt that hurt Tommie's voting as he wasn't considered by many nationally to be the best player on his own team.

  11. The part that had me going, damn right, was Coach Frost's questioning of why, after decades of success doing it a particular way, was: why we went away from it? It made no sense then, and it doesn't make any sense today. It would be one thing if the way we used to do things stopped working. But they didn't. We just had a succession of morons in the AD and UNL top leaderahip spots who put their own absurd ego before the best interests of the program and players therein. And the program, players, and us fans have suffered ever since. But now, we got the only coach who truly understands WHY Nebraska was so good, for so long.

  13. I’m assuming the title is supppsed to start with “Why”? To me, it’s simple. Example....how many male athletes go to college thinking they don’t need to study because they are going to the NFL or NBA? Female student athletes are there to get an education.

  14. It’s really irrelevant when his family moved to Nebraska. If the parents aren’t fans, the kids likely aren’t either. I moved to Minnesota 14 years ago. My kids that were born here aren’t Gophers fans by any means.

  22. Some apparently still want to believe that Bo cast some voodoo mind-control spell over the players, and that it wasn't, you know, exactly what any team's reaction would be when you fire their 9-win coach and replace him with a career .500 guy...

  23. Over the course of 7 years this fan base had to make appologies for its coach time and time again for his piss poor behavior because at first we thought it would light a fire under the teams ass. But when that fire went out the piss poor behavior got worse. And then after he was fired he gave us a final middle finger by placing a massive chip on the shoulders of his former team. That's a s#!tty thing to do no matter how anyone wants to justify it. If you really cared about them you wouldn't do that.

  25. This is why I have said that Riley didn't walk into some toxic situation...Riley walked into a regular situation that pretty much every coach takes over when they come into a program...he just had no clue how to manage it.

  26. @Making Chimichangas My thoughts exactly. It's the same thing we've all been saying for years, but it's nice to finally hear someone inside the program acknowledge it. The Strain was more with the coaching staff than the players. You feel for some of the guys who were trying to do things right (Parella and D. Williams, from the sound of things). For as 'nice' as Riley was, it's incredible how much drama he brought in.

  27. I disagree. I think if Frazier had stayed healthy in 1994, he would have easily won it. He was the leading candidate by a pretty wide margin if I recall correctly. And how he didn't win it in 1995 is akin to Jethro Tull beating Metallica for the Grammy back in the day. Yeah Eddie George was a good player in his own right, but Frazier was just on a different level.

  28. I've lost 10lbs of fat and gained 3.5lbs of muscle since Frost became the head coach.

  29. I'm not trying to troll here, but the "Frazier got screwed out of the Heisman" take probably isn't accurate. He certainly could have won it. You can make a strong case for it. But people act like it was an injustice on the same level as Paul Hornung winning over Jim Brown. Eddie George had a great year and was a worthy Heisman winner. If you want to say Frazier was more worthy, that's fine. But this isn't the Portland Trail Blazers taking Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan. And I loved Frost as a player, but he wasn't even the best offensive player on his own team. So no, Frost shouldn't have won the Heisman.

  31. Riley had millions of reasons (dollars) to be loyal to Eichorst and allow him to have greater influence on the football program. Riley was "this close" to be forced into retirement in Corvallis when Eichorst hired him out of nowhere in December 2014. After Eichorst did that, Riley wasn't going to push back on anything Eichorst did at NU.

  35. Note: What correlates to wins in football is well known and the information readily available. For example, not surprising is the role of turnovers, but something that is a bit surprising are penalties. More imprtantly, this is a really poor method. There are many reasons why, but a big one is it shows correlation, but implies causation. Rushing stats are a good example of this. Teams that rush for over 200 yards have an obscene win total, that doesn't mean every team should be rush heavy. It's an inverse correlation. Passing stats, in general, actually correlate better if you're looking for a causal factor.
