  1. If he were my son, I'd tell him to stop listening to Mike Riley.

  2. They could chase Melvin Gordon on end rounds deep into the fourth quarter. They almost caught him a couple times too.

  7. Thoughts from Dinardo, which Howard also agreed/said, that stood out to me, I am paraphrasing a lot so don’t kill me on exact wording: 1) This team is as good or can compete with any team we have seen (which includes Wisconsin), and in the West has a legit shot but has to have some good fortune due to schedule difficulty 2) The practice they saw today was one of the 2 best they have seen thus far, and the BEST considering this was #14 and day after a scrimmage. Seemed REALLY impressed with tempo and speed of practice despite normally seeing tired legs at this stage. NO EVIDENCE of tired legs for DONU today 3) Talent finally appears to resemble the on paper top 25 recruiting classes, first time they can say that since covering DONU DiNardo has been a pretty straight shooter in the past so I am struggling not to shove an IV of Koolaid in right now

  8. We used to do these and seemed like we got away from them last year. I thought they were fun. With Akron prep about a week away, seems like a good time to start a thread. These are my season bold (or not) predictions. Stanley Morgan surpasses 1000 yards receiving. Maurice Washington surpasses 1000 yards rushing. Avg defensive sacks 2.5 or greater Avg defensive turnovers 2 or greater 4 or more Huskers drafted Michigan is in the national title picture heading into the Ohio St game UCF finishes with at least 3 losses

  9. Lee Barfknecht defied logic and reason when he gave his 1997 AP vote to Michigan despite clear evidence on the field that they would not, could not be a legitimate champion. Lee allowed his personal biases to affect his sober reporting of the facts. Lee then spent TWO DECADES leeching off the carcass of the very institution he helped run down. He was the grave robber who returned again and again to the sarcophagus, digging jewel after jewel out of the crown. The platitudes dished out in his name are understandable. Good people react goodly to even ungood things. But man, these next two weeks of feting this clown are going to be just about unbearable.

  12. I don't hate Trump. I hate treasonous misogynists who try to bully people who disagree with them, who attempt to destroy America's alliances and environment, who attempt to profit off of government, who practice nepotism, who flout the First Amendment and who try to suborn our legal processes. It's just coincidental that Trump does all these things.

  15. Some crazy numbers in the Husker Media Guide this year about Frost's years as a coach. Obviously a lot of them are as an assistant but I hadn't seen them put together quite like this. Below are the two pages dedicated to Frost's coaching career. They can also be found on pages 12-13 here Some of the highlights. In 11 years as a full time coach, Frost has Been to a bowl game every year (more impressive now than it used to sound) Won a conference title 7 times Was ranked in the Top 10 in 8 seasons Won 13 games twice Won 12+ games seven times Won 9+ games every year except his first year at UCF Averaged winning over 11 games per year Just being a part of - and being around a bunch of different coaching staffs that - won that many games has to be a good thing.

  16. On top of that, Osborne told Frost to stay at Stanford for spring camp, because he thought it was what was best for him. We don't know the context. This was October. Riley probably figured he was going to get fired and couldn't promise Bookie anything about anything.

  19. @KingBlank It might not have been nearly as awful as under Riley, but Dobson's program was... not great. If I had to guess, those dumbbells were probably the same then as they were under Riley - after all, the last major upgrade of the weight room was under Bo, just after Suh left. (also, whatsoever is one word)

  20. @teachercd Or maybe the staff doesn't play favorites like some here clearly do, and just want the best player to start, whoever it might be?
    2 points
  21. God, that part about the dumbbells makes me want to go hug a couple guys in the program for getting this stuff back on track. Callahan and/or Pelini. Dobson didn't exactly impress as S&C coach, either. I mean in a sense, even Riley was already doing that - tied in the 4th last year, lost in OT the year before, and lost by 2 before that. Some people act like we don't have a chance against Wisky this year, and I really have no idea what makes them think that!

  22. I want to be upset over this and no amount of justification makes it OK, but it’s just one of dozens of failures by Riley and the surrounding staff and influencers that make me happy we have a real coaching staff again.

  23. Why don't you backup your claims? You throw these one liners out constantly without any sourcing, back it up. It's a simple request. Further more, the economy grew at 2.3% last year. It was similar in the first quarter of this year, and was at 4.1% in the 2nd quarter. I think analyst unanimously agreed that the 2nd quarter surge was due to Trump starting a trade war. Companies are buying up materials before the prices go up. We'll see how the year finishes, but I think most agree next quarter we won't see the same growth rate. Obama hit 4% or higher in 3 quarters during his presidency, and he wasn't gifted a stable and growing economy.

  28. So, there's a strong, female, black, democratic candidate running for governor in GA ... think this is at all connected? The county is 60% african americans and they're planning to close 7/9 polling sites. Supposedly "access" is an issue. (btw they were used just a month ago when the R's were running in primaries)

  29. I haven't read through every post in this thread, and this is just preseason banter. From what I believe I know about Frost's offense, this seems to be the order of importance in skill set from his QB: 1. Decision making ability. 2. Accuracy. 3. Running ability. Milton wasn't exactly super fast. Don't over-analyze these comparisons, but he probably runs about like Ganz did or maybe Chase Daniel at Missouri. Meaning, more than good enough to make it a high octane Chip Kelly zone read offense. I think we know that running ability isn't going to trump the first two requirements, so Martinez's running ability isn't going to edge out Gebbia if Martinez isn't as good in the first two aspects. Hard to say how hard Riley was really making Gebbia work in practice last season (probably not that hard), but still, he has a whole extra year of "football time" that Martinez didn't have, especially since Martinez sat out all of last year due to injury. In the spring game, it kind of seemed like Martinez wasn't hanging in the pocket and making reads as much as his first instinct was to take off and run. Yes, yes...it was four months ago and he could have come a long ways since then, for sure. It's a coin toss. I don't know how anyone could feel sure who it's going to be, but if I was forced to guess, I'd guess it's Gebbia. I just have a feeling Gebbia edges Martinez out slightly in the first two elements. But, I'll be really happy either way.

  31. I think it HAS to be better than it has been, right? I have to think the way they have weight trained, nourished, and practiced should help a lot. Crossing all things that this is the year we remain reasonably healthy because of the Sunday through Friday prep.

  32. Does Martinez even have more upside? Right now it appears the only thing he's demonstrably better is his athleticism.

  36. But the best part is, we actually have two freshmen fighting for the spot! There's so much promise brimming here, no matter which guy starts against Akron. And to boot, we now finally have a staff that won't mismanage a roster.

  37. You're looking at it as if the QB's are tied because the coaches don't know Martinez has more upside, and then one day the coaches wake up and realize, "Hey, they aren't really tied because AM has more upside!" Either the QB's are tied, which includes all factors, or they aren't tied.

  38. I don't know that I'd make that jump on account that it's uncertain how Wisconsin matches up with the teams from the east due to never playing them and when they do, other than the title game, it tends to be a weak year for that opponent. Except Ohio St, but they've lost 9 of 10 in that matchup.

  40. I think it's crazy to hold the Red/White Match for the defending National Champions and then spoil that with some event for one of the school's secondary sports. The football fan day thing can be on a Tuesday at like 1pm or something. This better not interfere with parking and such at Devaney. I'll be writing a scathing letter to Mr. Moose if it does.
