  1. This really gets at the question I had... If Team X has room for 17 recruits and averages a 92.00 rating and Team Y has room for 24 recruits and averages a 89.00 rating I would rather have the class with the higher average rating. Just confusing to me that the total number of commits would be the indicator given that every team has ebbs and flows to the size of a class.
  2. I have been following recruiting from a distance the last few years but with the Scott Frost hiring and the excitement around the program I have been following much more closely this year. Can someone with more knowledge in regards to 247 explain why class rankings are based on the total number as opposed to the average rating for the players committed/signed? Looking back at 2017 Nebraska finished 23rd but if it was based on the average player rating the Huskers would have finished 19th. For 2018 with the current commits, the Huskers are ranked 54th based on the total but would be ranked 21st at this point in time based on average player rating.
  3. A guy with this athletic ability and frame has the ability to be a great OT if he can add some weight. David Edwards at UW is a perfect example... Came in as a 6’7, 245lb TE and became an All-American. Only works if he buys in.
  4. You're kidding right? First of all, Oregon's facilities are superior to any school in the country, Nebraska included. Secondly, what are these so-called advantages that Pelini has that Osborne was never afforded? If I remember correctly, Osborne did not have to deal with an 85 scholarship limit. He was allowed partial qualifiers for much of his coaching career. His team was one of the few that was consistently nationally televised. He also took over a coach who had won 2 of the past 3 National Championships. All of these were clear advantages that Pelini is up against... I am rather indifferent about Bo, but believe 100% that he is doing the best he can in an uphill battle in recruiting. He is up against location, weather, lack of D-1 talent nearby, and most importantly, a lack of national relevancy in the past 15 years.
  5. Well if it's us and Tennessee we at least win the distance from home battle. Other than that.... stadiums close to the same size post our expansion, facilities I would imagine would be similar too, Academics we should have the edge... it'll be interesting to see who wins out here. Unfortunately for UT, I believe Dooley's seat is very hot so that may be a factor, should he have another subpar season he's gone. If you actually look at on field results our CBS have faired better than theirs I'm not exactly sure we can talk about anybody else's coach being on the hot seat when it seems a large faction of Husker fans are calling for Pelini to be ousted if we have another 9-win season. How does Pelini's current status impact recruiting if at all?
  6. I think it would be fair to say that Oregon has capitalized on its relationship with Nike and the alternate uniforms to grow into a football power. Anyone can see that high school kids are just as impressed with the flashy uniforms and Nike handouts as they would be with dusty championship trophies that they had nothing to do with. I think it is time Nebraska embraces the alternate uniforms as an added incentive in the recruiting game.
  7. What is the point in verbally committing to a school if you continue to take visits and offers from other schools? If they want to play the recruiting game and have coaches fawn all over them they could just delay announcing a decision until closer to February. Maybe the way to look at it is if a player is willing to give his word that he is coming to Nebraska, and then changes his mind, that might not be the type of character we want in the program anyways. Better to have players who WANT to be here in my opinion.
  8. It would be hard to blame the kid if he decided to stick closer to home since he is close with his family... but if I were in his shoes (or his parents) I would like to know why ND is so late to the party. It's like others have said... where have they been all along? Did a more coveted recruit change his commitment? What if someone better comes along? Will they pull the rug from under JW? Those are the things that I would want to know and in the end I would feel slighted and probably tell Kelly to shove it.
  9. +1. People are so quick to discredit Bo's success at Nebraska without any historical context. Yes... Saint Nick Saban has won two National Championships, but look at his record with the programs he has been at. Michigan State (34-24-1) 1995: 6-5-1 1996: 6-6 1997: 7-5 1998: 6-6 1999: 9-2 LSU (48-16) 2000: 8-4 2001: 10-3 2002: 8-5 2003: 13-1 2004: 9-3 It took Saban five years to win nine games at Michigan State. I will not compare our program to MSU in terms of historical and winning tradition, but our program was in shambles when Pelini took over. It took Saban a few years to get things rolling at LSU with markedly better athletes than what we currently have. What I am saying is that in his own right, Bo has been very successful in his first four seasons with Nebraska. He may very well never win a NC at Nebraska, but I think given the right talent and situation, he could.
  10. I think I was listening to On Campus with Bill King on XM radio when a guy called and said he was trying to explain how we come to a National Champion in football to a foreign friend. His friend listened for a bit and then compared it to the way they pick a winner in figure skating... three judges all with an agenda.
  11. I have to say I disagree with the point there... Alabama loses to LSU, drops 2 spots. Now, I know it's sort of a polar opposite, but Houston loses to Southern Miss, drops 13 spots. That is a good point. I was thinking more along the lines of losing in the first couple of weeks and having time to move back up the rankings as opposed to losing at the end. The experts always talk about a body of work but it only applies if you lose early it seems.
  12. I am not sure I have ever met someone who says they are not in favor of some sort of playoff system as opposed to what we currently have. For those who are against it... why?
  13. I am not sure I have heard anyone say they are not in favor of some sort of playoff system as opposed to what we currently have. For those who are against it... why?
  14. The current system fails in a number of ways... 1. Preseason rankings favor teams with great recent reputations 2. It matters more when you lose than who you lose to 3. You have the #23 team in the rankings playing in a BCS bowl
  15. I had that same concern. I think that's reason enough to stay far away from him, no matter how good he is. There are a LOT of good coaches out there. Agreed. That whole situation is/was toxic and I think anyone associated with it will have a hard time moving on to bigger and better things. Can you imagine Bo having to answer questions about what Johnson could have possibly known?
