  1. Actually Saddleback JC is one of the best in the country and has several former players in the NFL. Good enough for Howie Long to send one of his son from Virginia to play and be coached at Saddleback. While O'Brien is a good high school QB he played at the Div 2 level in California and his team still finished in 3rd Place in their league. He did not face the top level of competition that Stanton's Santa Margarita team faced. O'Brien is not rated as the top QB in his area. KJ Costello (commit to Stanford) and Devin Modster (commit to Arizona) are much better QB's in the same town. As a matter of fact all three played Pop Warner Football on the same team. O'Brien never played QB on that team. Stanton played at the D1 level and won the state championship as a junior. He lead his team to # 1 ranking in Maxpreps national poll until his season ended with the knee injury. Stanton was also an elite 11 finalist. It's unfortunate but I believe that Stanton's confidence was destroyed by that lunatic Nebraska had as a head coach. Don't expect O'Brien to be ready to contribute for a couple of years. He has just not faced the top level of competition in high school.
  2. That's great news for Stanton landing at UNLV. I was hoping he would stay home and play for San Diego State who just won the Mountain West Conference. With only two years of eligibility remaining he needed to go where he can start next season.
  3. This depends on which site you go through. If you look at JCGridiron.com, this is true. If you look at the NJCAA ( National Junior College Athletic Association ) rankings, neither team is ranked in the top 20. Saddleback and the rest of the California Jucos don't play a national schedule. They play teams within the state and that is it. JCGridiron ranks all Junior Colleges. The NJCAA only ranks member schools. California schools are not members of NJCAA. In a state with over 30 million people and several junior colleges in every county there is no need to play a national schedule. The best competition is in their own state. In my opinion Stanton's confidence was destroyed by the previous coaching staff. It took his current coach to restore his confidence by sticking with him even after he struggled in the first two games. Now Stanton is playing better than ever and has his team in the state championship. You will be hearing more from Stanton in the next two years.
  4. Johnny Stanton's Saddleback College team won the Southern California Championship Saturday night. Stanton threw for 397 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also rushed for 90 yards. Saddleback College will face San Francisco Community College for the State Championship on December 12th. San Francisco is currently the # 1 ranked JC in the nation. Saddleback has moved up to # 3 ranked JC in the nation. Stanton and Saddleback College got off to a slow start in their first two games but are now on a 10 game win streak. Once Stanton got his confidence back and shook off the rust of sitting the bench for two years he has been unstoppable. The Saddleback coaching staff has a history of restoring confidence in bounce back players. Several Saddleback players have moved on D1 schools and the NFL over the years. Saddleback has won three JC national championships. Stanton has received two more offers from Cal Bears and San Diego State.
  5. Tommie Armstrong is not a winning QB. He is too inconsistent. He missed several wide open receivers today. He was also late on the throw for the attempted two point conversion. Nebraska will continue to be a program of the past with him at QB.
