  1. austinhusker: I went with another Husker fan who lives 4 blocks from me. I work with another. I know another who lives 10 houses down from me. I have been a fan since '70. It seems no matter where I go, there will be Husker fans. Next season we will have to get together at the watch site in North Austin. GBR
  2. Lay it on me, I would loved to be wrong about the helmet. I did have trouble giving them the helmet thing as I love the N helmet, but I have always loved the UM helmet.
  3. I am a HUGE Husker fan and I was at the game and I watched the game on tape since then. I think Carr has been fairly reserved in his comments. I don't think UM got a close call. I do think they only call that could have gone either way was the Bowman delection of a pass. All other calls were called correctly IMO. However, Carr had to call timeouts to get reviews of close plays. The fact he did not actually slash the refs throats is testimate to his class. IMO, Michigan could not run the ball effectively and that is why we were able to make the gritty come back win. And Taylor is the grittiest of them all. I think we should give Carr and UM credit for being good sports in what must be a crushing defeat. Let's go home and home with them.
  4. Had to give comment here. UM fans are as good as Husker fans. I was at the Alamodome and here is how I ranked the following: Helmets UM Fight song - UM Pre fight song after a score - Huskers Cheerleaders - UM (they spelled out MICHIGAN during a timeout, so I am impressed easily) Fan class - Tie Coach class - UM (Carr could have actually slashed the refs throat after having to call time outs for replays but didn't) Players class - tie Fan support - Huskers hands down ( The River Walk was completely RED) I too hope we do a home and home with MEEECHIGAN! It would be a classic.
  5. I was at the game. It was an amazing game. I watched the game on tape later, but it did not match the excitement of being there. I have never been to a game in Lincoln, so this is the biggest Husker crowd I have been in. I was impressed by the way the Husker crowd would make noise when UM had the ball on offense. They knew when to make noise. The thrill of the last two touchdowns and the crowd reaction is something I will never forget. I will make it to a game in Lincoln some way some how. It must be great. The UM fans were great. I talked to some after the game at a truck stop on the way home. (I live in the Austin, Tx area). The UM fans were very disappointed, but they did not complain about the calls. I was impressed with all the UM people in what must be a crushing defeat.
  6. 1) How long have you been a member of Husker Nation? Since around 1970 2) What/who led you to The Nation? 9 wins a season. 3) Where are you from originally? Iowa. 4) Where do you live now? Texas 5) Favorite Husker memory? Tie: Rogers TD against OU Go ahead TD against Miami for the first NC since 71 6) Worst Husker memory? Tie: Failed two point conversion 83 Every TD scored by CU on Black Friday. 7) Number of home games attended? Zero 8) Number of away games attended? Three. Herbie Husker 15) Favorite Husker play? Interception for a TD. 16) Favorite game-day beverage? Anything without caffeine. My heart won't take it. 17) How did you find HuskerBoard? 7. What kind of offense is not all that important. Miami had a great offense. (24-17) Florida had a great offense. (62-24) Tennessee had a great offense (42-17?) The Huskers won National Championships because of a dominating defense and an offense that could advance the ball and score opportunistic touchdowns on great defenses. The WCO can score anytime on great defenses. (Check out USC) The point is: don't worry so much about the offense. Think Deeeeeefence and the type of offense will not matter that much. I happen to think the option would not work as well anymore. I remember how the Texas defence beat the flow of option to the corner and outmanned the option. It did not go anywhere because Texas has the speed to beat the option. Now they can't do that. So all we need is a great defence and the WCO will give us a chance to win against the best in the country.
  8. This is my first post. I am a die hard fan and have been since '70. The best way to describe what kind of fan I am: I was physically sick at the end of this years Pitt game. I have lived in Texas since '96, so I have watched Mack Brown compile great talent year after year. So, I think recruiting is very important and the reason for my input to this post. When Coach Callahan was hired, he was described as a great recruiter and we would have to wait to see if he can coach them up. So far, IMO, he has lived up to his billing. However, I do think there is something going on with the coaching staff that has not come out yet. At first I thought it might be that Coach Blake was leaving, based on prior rumors and the fact his name is not coming up in any of the commit's comments like it did last year. I remember last year that Coach Blake's name would surface whenever a 5* recruit commmitted to Nebraska. The aricle would mention how he was the lead recruiter in getting this recruit to commit to Nebraska. I just don't hear that this year. I hope that I am wrong, I would hate to lose Blake. I hope that the feeling I am getting about the recruiting process this year is only that Downing is interviewing for head coaching positions. I would hate to lose him, but it sounds like he doesn't want to be here. So when he does leave, I vote we make Coach Blake the Recruiting Coordinator and the Highest paid assistant coach in the U.S. of A. As far as losing recruits, it hurts. Period. But it happens. I am more concerned about the reason why. I don't think we will find out until after the Bowl game. I will be at the Bowl game. I got to see the Huskers beat Baylor and now I am going to see them upset the mighty Wolverines. Just my thoughts and opinions, I of course, could be wrong. BGR
