  1. Maybe time will tell us that NU will be absolutely better off with Trev making the decision he made...I doubt people will look back fondly of Trev's sudden departure. I am one of those people who did really care about the UNO decision. Maybe it was the right decision, but Trev and his staff should have done a better job and not got themselves into the optics they did. I think most of us recognize there are more professional ways of handling things rather than over the phone due to his offices inability to keeps things under wraps. That's okay though, just because it's not a mainstream activity, means we can treat people less professionally. Again-maybe it was the correct call.
  2. If Trev becomes our new AD, I believe that will be enough for me to not support Nebraska during his tenure. The manner in which he handled Mike Denney and the UNO wrestling team is unforgivable (imo).
  3. Want to-how do you quantify that? Play calling-incredibly subjective topic I'm hoping we have more armchair quarterbacks that hope that they can just send coach Frost (or any other coach) a detailed practice plan that they could implement for the entire year to ensure the development of EVERY player, their health, and takes into account time of year, age, maturity, team being played, and countless other factors. Sorry-I just get so frustrated at fans who make this coaching thing appear so easy to fix and don't even notice when things have significantly improved. Our D is night and day different, our want to (those kids and coaches give a damn about their performance) is there, play calling is a topic for discussion (art and science).
  4. The media asks questions, fans ask questions, and we are getting some honest assessments. I believe Coach Frost is intentional about everything he says. It's a challenge to the team.
  5. Every game matters, especially when you are a team that IS not superior to others. I remember a while back when we had Gregory, we called him an eraser (he could erase mistakes by other people on the field or his own because of his God given genetics). We don't have many of those on this team, which means we have to play close to perfect to give us a chance. Iowa certainly has a few more "erasers" than we do and has a STRONG, CONSISTENT, AND DEFINED, culture which has taken a substantial amount of time to build. Special teams have been tough this year, and you can scheme all you want, but we can't scheme depth (which we have little of). I am extremely impressed with what they've done with our soccer kicker, they gave him time to develop and it's been awesome. It took nearly 8 weeks for him to figure out how to do one thing well. (Not a knock on him or our coaches...but realistic for fans to recognize that acquiring skills take time). Mills, Waldoch, Jurgens are all good examples of taking time to figure things out. It obviously would be much better to not ask these guys to contribute until they've been in any system for 2-3 years... but here we are. Back to the original point, we had to play incredibly disciplined and perfect to keep ourselves in games and it was compounded by some crazy circumstances severely affecting our special teams (which put even more pressure on the other two phases). I saw huge growth in all 3 areas as the season went on. We haven't turned the corner yet, but I believe things are being set up to build things correctly. Just my opinion.
  6. What are some intangible things that have dramatically improved since Frost has been here: #1. Effort on defense #2. Effort on perimeter blocking #3. Effort in general Things take time to build. I was happy with a ton of things from last nights game. Not satisfied but happy to see progress. Frost is doing a great job, if our fanbase would stop jumping down his throat whenever we stumble...that would be better!
  7. Long time reader, but I believe first time poster (I believe). I have been and currently am a head coach and a teacher (and have worked in this field for over a decade). I've inherited programs in good and bad shape and everything in between. I don't pretend to be a high level coach, or a fbs blue blood program coach, however coaching/teaching/development is pretty similar across the board no matter the level. Many people who frequent this board and post...are absolutely delusional (that's a pretty harsh word, nevertheless I believe it's warranted) to believe we "should" be more competitive than we currently are. Things that are built to last are not built fast. Everyones expectation around the program changed due to outside pressure (and some momentum from last season). No coach in their right mind would ever say no to positive publicity and expectations! We are on track for a 5, maybe 6 win regular season and I'm excited to continue to watch the development. Quit getting bent out of shape when we struggle/take steps back and be careful to heap so much praise on the team when we do something positive. I realize fan can be short for fanatical (which makes our supporters really unique), but we also can have some class and patience to watch the rebuild happen the RIGHT WAY. I live in Iowa, and I hear the same negative conversations about Kirk Ferentz from Iowa fans...the sky is falling when they lose and they are incredible when they win. It's fun to see a program reach the level of maturity, identity, and unwavering commitment to having their details/standards upheld (like Iowa has). We haven't played super well this season, though it's disappointing-I definitely have seen progress. Frost is the type of leader I would want to build around.
