  1. I've mentioned before here, I have a family member who is trans. Believe me, this is not something someone would choose to do, or do to feel like a "special snowflake". FU for suggesting that, btw. He (transitioned gender) now has a beard, are you saying he should still use the ladies' room? You don't think that might freak anyone out? I have another MTF friend. She uses the ladies' room. She says (in her sister's book) that she absolutely will not talk in the ladies' room, especially in a stall, for fear that her voice will betray her and someone will call the cops. But seeing her at a glance, you would have a hard time telling, and she would draw a lot more attention using the men's room. This is not the same thing as cross-dressing. I don't know what to do about creeps that will use this as a loophole to peep in the opposite gender's restroom. I also don't know what to do about creep's that peep in the same gender's restroom. I think that is a different issue that would be good to be solved. Separately. I feel very certain that nearly all trans people dread public restrooms and want to get in and out with as little attention as possible.
  2. As much as I liked Austria and Sweden, and got around fine as a tourist just speaking English, I think actually living there full time would be more difficult. I could learn the language, but I'm not sure I'm up to that. I took Spanish in HS and college, but couldn't make out anything in Spain. So, English countries are probably it for me. Canada would be a pretty easy choice, both culturally and distance-wise. New Zealand does appeal to me, a lot, but I've never been. I'd definitely consider Scotland, then Ireland and Australia, and finally the rest of the UK. To move to most of these places and stay legally for longer than a visit, you either need a green card type visa (not sure they call them that everywhere) or enough money in local country investments.
  3. I'd think that Frazier's health issues would be a part as well, and how Berringer and then Turman stepped in and kept it running, though that story may have lost some luster after Ohio St 2014.
  4. The controversies don't mean that much without them happening to a championship team. I expect them to show a decent amount of game action to frame that. The championships aren't much of a story (outside of Nebraska) without the controversies and tragedy, so expect to see a decent amount on that too. Where the emphasis is, is the question. I'll wait and see it before reacting either way. I'm pretty encouraged by the link in The Duke's post #5 that the story of how the team pulled together during the turmoil will be a significant part. This doesn't sound like a hatchet job. We shall see.
  5. 9 seconds and a timeout left and we can't do better than that?
  6. Agree. I don't think I've ever had a job that had "sick days" so I guess I don't know for sure but that sounds right. But definitely use your vacation days. If the culture at the company is to not use them, consider if you are at the right place for life work/balance. As far as notice, it varies, in part depending on how critical you are for coverage. I've had jobs where it was no problem to call or send an email that I was "taking a day". I don't see the problem with asking your boss, if you put it in the perspective of just wanting to know what is expected so you don't create a problem.
  7. Yes, I realize I wasn't very clear, but I was talking about it's use here.
  8. I know, right? I thought I'd have more on my side. Oh well. I'll cringe in silence from now on.
  9. I thought I'd start with this board. Your way sounds a lot easier.
  10. Again. It's not really about the song. And if you actually read all of my last post I acknowledged that most school fight songs are dated. What I was referring to was the number of times here that people use "DONU".
  11. Pretty much this. You have to understand the term not necessarily in modern day terms. Think of when the song was written. Girls are the fairest Boys are the squarest Both compliments. Sure, I understand that, but it's kind of like showing pictures of campus with students walking around wearing beanies and whatever else that hasn't been seen in 50 years. Out of date, and I think Nebraska is already viewed as being behind the times in many ways. Not that it's all bad, but maybe it's not the image we want to perpetuate? Or probably it's so minor of a thing that it just doesn't matter, or is seen as distinctive, and maybe even favorably nostalgic to some, I guess. And it's not just the song but even if it was, using something written by a class of 1924 grad maybe isn't what's going to help attract recruits, though I guess most school songs are dated. Anyway, I guess it's just me that it sounds so old-fashioned to, and not in a good way. I appreciate the replies.
  12. To me, DONU sounds like what someone's grandmother might call us. Or maybe it's like referring to "dear old grand dad" while rolling your eyes at something he does. It sounds corny (no pun intended). Look at the lyrics to the song: Maybe being called a square doesn't have the negative connotation that it had when I was growing up. People talk about alternate uniforms, and rockin' tunnel songs as things that would make today's kids identify with the school, yet we try to get recruits to come to DONU? I read that, and wonder how many kids think it's a hick place they will take a pass on. As far as I'm concerned, the only reason to type "donu" is if you're going to finish it with a "t", as in "donut". It's the off-season, you know. Just wondering how many others read it that way.
  13. I don't think it would have for me. Respectability and stability are both things he would've brought, and if you have to do it again in a few years, that's fine. Granted, he may not have been the best option still, but it doesn't totally cross him off the list. Given how things ultimately transpired, it may be for the best -- as Kill retired halfway into '15, right? He had known health issues that forced him to retire not even a year later. How would he have brought stability? I mean, there's a chance that he could've stayed healthy enough, but I don't think anyone was too surprised when he had to step down. That's just not a good risk to take, IMO.
  14. You didn't see it, but you didn't like it? How does that happen? And I'm not a fan of misspelling names, especially of legends.
  15. I didn't figure I'd like the video, but it was pretty good. Different. Or maybe not, since I usually don't watch these.
  16. I think these were guys we recruited hard and we had a very good shot at, but missed. We looked at Sanders but didn't even offer, right?
  17. Or people need to learn to create income without a job and actually run their own life. Elaborate. Run their own business. There are tons of different possibilities, such as franchises, new start-ups, or home based businesses. All three can have relatively low overhead which means relatively low risk, and in the case of home based businesses, extremely high reward if done correctly. With those, you just have to be willing to withstand a temporary loss of esteem from some people around you. Key word temporary. That's not "creating income without having a job." Running a business is the business owner's job. Making $ playing poker for a living is a job. Studying stock market behavior and making $ that way is a job. Point well taken. That's why I elaborated mostly on the home based business option. That's really the best and simplest way to generate income without taking up so much time. You build a team once and have the ability to be paid off of it for the rest of your life. It's called residual income, which we don't learn about in school (it's a shame really). Obviously, there are people that don't like them for whatever silly reason, but insurance works exactly the same way. Real estate as well. But to JJHusker1's point, which was directly on point to the topic, it doesn't seem too smart to quit your job without at least getting started on your own business. Those home based businesses may be low risk but they usually take time to get off the ground, if they ever do.
  18. Maybe coaches should have the same one year sit-out rule.
  19. Similar passing stats to TA. -287 yards rushing in 2 years, so don't expect any mobility. Still, it's good to have someone with game experience available.
  20. Your math is off. If a coach has 3 titles, and almost wins 4 more (not sure where the last 2 "pretty damn close" come from, but whatever), how many titles does he have? Answer: 3
  21. Well actually.... He's not wrong. If you don't like it, don't post. What you did was what we like to call threadshitting and it is frowned upon. Thanks! Fine. But it's not just that I don't like the thread. I think the topic makes us look really bad as a fan base. I hate to see that.
  22. SI just tweeted this a few moments ago. We need to tell them to let this go too, right? Not even close to the same thing. I thought you were smarter than this, but I guess not. The thread topic did not happen "on this day", it was just randomly started for no apparent reason other than to whine about having to share the title. The tweet is simply stating a fact or two that happened on this date. It is not trying to rekindle a controversy that cannot possibly be resolved. I agree with the opinion that we would've rolled Michigan, but that does not make it a fact. If you don't like the topic, don't read it and don't post in it. You're not a mod, so don't tell me what to read and post. Besides, I can hear the crying from outside the thread. Someone posted elsewhere, I think it was the 10-15 year thread, that the fans deserve a championship in that time frame. The pathetic whining in this thread tells me otherwise. Oh, and I love the revisionist history that Osborne wanted to play Michigan after the bowl games but they chickened out. Find me a link to that, or I call BS. Yes, he would've loved to have played them in the bowl, but knew the contractual obligation to the Rose Bowl made that impossible. There's no way the NCAA was going to allow an extra game after the bowls. Osborne never proposed or supported a post-bowl game against Michigan. It would've been fruitless to try. You people just look ignorant claiming he did, and that Michigan backed down.
