I think 20-30 minutes is about perfect but it usually takes me at least 10-15 minutes to fall asleep for a nap, and it's really hard to judge 'how long to take a nap' when I'm trying to inaccurately guesstimate how long it will take me to fall asleep. So, in the end, I usually 'nap' for about 45 minutes but maybe only slept for 20-30 of it.

I don't even consider laying down for a nap unless I have at least 3 hours to spare. 

Had a scratchy throat after work yesterday so I took several large swigs of bourbon and slept for 2 1/2 hours.  I feel great today.
