  1. Yeah well St. Saban does a annual P5 should only play P5 schools rant and unbelievably St. Saban apparently can't get what he wants in Tuscaloosa because they not only play G5 they play frickin FCS schools every year. But sadly Saban has no clout and influence. Went back and looked at some old Nebraska schedules. Cornhuskers were buying games 40 years ago. I don't think that is going to change.
  2. Jeremy is an outstanding writer, at times wickedly hilarious, but he's strictly a fan who somewhat dabbles in actual sports writing.
  3. Nebraska doesn't "need" the money because Nebraska has done the things to bring in a metric crap ton of money every year (for those unfamiliar the metric crap ton is larger than the English crap ton) You want to play more home and homes? MOST of the college football universe would stand and applaud while the AD's at your peer schools would pants you when you get the courage to talk to the pretty girl in the hallway. Miami is play A-State home and home, Missouri, Ole Miss, and Iowa State have or have scheduled a home and home. Buy games exist because buy games work. More money for the schools with big crowds and donors giddy every time the AD invents a new way to part them with their money. They work wonderfully for the opponents as well. It puts a seven figure number in the revenue column that buys the AD some grace with the university chancellor when creating a costly budget. Home and homes are the province of schools who cannot afford to buy games and the province of G5 schools that can afford to host those games. When people bemoan that FBS is too large, well the solution is simple. Don't buy home games. Make a San Jose State or Louisiana-Monroe survive on what they make at the gate, they will eventually run out of money.
  4. I can't stop you from being insulted if that is your take so be it, you'd fit right in here in Arkansas where the they don't know and love us insecurity is also present. Fox is not making a recruiting video, isn't trying to sell tickets, they are trying to convince average Americans to watch telecasts involving Nebraska, they don't have to sell Cornhusker football on TV to Cornhusker fans, they are watching no matter what. The target is someone in Florida or California who isn't a Nebraska fan.
  5. Playing devils advocate What is better for recruiting? Oh, yeah Lincoln is exactly like I thought it would be or Wow Lincoln was so nice much more than I expected.
  6. Can tell who is a teacher. I don't use words I have to double check the spelling of.
  7. An outsider's view? I think it's pretty dadgum slick. But coming from a rural state that is firmly in flyover country, I get why Nebraska fans don't like it. You get sick of the everyone lives in the country and is a farmer trope that doesn't reflect the reality of the economy or development of the state and reinforces the stereotype people hold. It really is good but I 100% understand the distaste.
  8. I'd be fine doing a Gunslinger Cooley and bringing Luke Ferguson back.
  9. At a signing day reception, one fan said to Coach Anderson, "I just wish he was three inches taller". Coach said "No you don't he'd be in the Big XII". Crazy thing is, he's the best pass blocking RB among those with experience and he trucks a couple people every year. He's just an incredible mass of muscle. Not a little breakaway guy at all.
  10. That's actually been an evolving answer. Used to be a small diehard faction and some looky loos who would make a game or two each year when the weather was perfect. Our previous AD wasn't great at his job but he did push tailgating when we really had nothing else to sell. Diehards complained that road games were more fun because the people willing to cheer were all in the same area. 2004 the NCAA mandated minimum home scheduling and mandated you actually freaking use your allowed scholarships and that set the ball rolling. I remember driving to the stadium on Johnson Ave and couldn't see far down the road because of smoke from tailgate parties. Playing reviled rival Memphis who was #25. They ended up winning on a miracle rally but most of the voters thought they had lost it was so late, so still knocked them SOBs out of the Top 25. Fan base is a work in progress but getting stronger and louder all the time. Hard thing is breaking old habits. People got used to get freebie tickets and don't like the idea they actually have to pay to see a game or used to comfortably waiting until game day to see if the weather is good and buy at the window, there are going to be some flipping out because they refuse to listen to the warnings that gameday tickets now carry a premium and will cost more than advance purchase. The suites, club seats, and loge boxes all having waiting lists, but we struggle to move the cheap seats.
  11. Luke Matheson. Luke Ferguson is the long graduated kicker.
  12. Sun Belt teams are pitiful and simply cannot beat teams like Texas A&M, Arkansas, Alabama, Missouri, and Oklahoma State.
  13. Aplin has 18 carries this year for 110 yards, one rushing TD In 2011 161 carries for 588 yards with 10 rushing TD's. In 2010 138 carries for 477 yards with 11 rushing TD's. In 2009 mostly playing back-up until Leonard was lost for the year, 64 carries for 253 yards with 4 rushing TD's. He didn't see the field against Nebraska in 2009.
  14. Aplin is a better than average passer and he has wheels even though the new staff is trying to keep him from running as much. Oku running ball, it quickly becomes obvious why he was signed by Tennessee, even though he didn't fit the Vols system. Jarboe is a special wide-out. If you go look at the ESPN box score and click on videos to see the run by Hayes he lays a monster block. Wrap him up on receptions or he's getting extra yards. He leaves little doubt as to why OU signed him. Rocky Hayes had four carries for 68 yards, an impressive stat when you consider that until Tuesday he was a defensive back who had never practiced on the offensive side of the ball. Defense hasn't really had the BIG PLAY yet but Starson is showing flashes of being a big play DE. Andrew Tryon has shown big play potential but hasn't really put all together yet. Chaz Scales has been quieter this year than I expected.
  15. The Red Wolves aren't getting a lot of pressure on defense. One early sack at Oregon, one sack vs. Memphis. Playing defense pretty straight up with few stunts or blitzes, probably a bit too much reliance on zone coverage. The offense when it clicks is a thing of beauty. Nearly 40% of our 500+ yards at Oregon came against the first defense, down side was three turnovers (two early) and six first quarter penalties. Against Memphis the story of the day was special teams. One punt blocked for a TD, one punt return muffed for a TD making it a much closer game. Still ran nearly 100 plays and generated over 600 yards offense. Y'all are still welcome to drop by The Den, that's where most ASU fans are http://arkst.com/board
