  1. Pretty tough to call out bama fans with the kind of attendance they have every year. They are crazy and sometimes rude but they are always there. I think their consequetive sell outs are about the closest to us. I realize your probably not calling the fans out really just thought I would say something nice about them since 90% of my family is bama fans.
  2. I realize most Nebraska fans don't live in the south and don't get to listen to Atlanta Braves broadcast on the radio but Skip Carrey was the all time best baseball anouncer. Unfortunately he passed away. As far as football anouncers go I love Todd Blackburn and the guy who works with him on ESPN. Big fan of Keith Jackson and Vern Lundquist. Can't stand that women who does play by play with ESPN. Thats not because I'm sexist because Dorris Burk is on of my favorite basketball commentators. Brent Mussburger is a moron. I thought this before I joined the board and heard the open container story. I have never developed more hate for a sports commentator than watching the ESPN greatest team ever tournament and listening to Herbstreit cry about Nebraska being voted the best. He insulted an entire state of people and I can't beleive people are saying they like him. The guy is an Ohio State homer who loves USC and Miami. He did not even act like the fact that the 95 team is the only team to go undefeated, won the national championship and won every game by 14 or more. He is a moron.
  3. I partially tore my mcl in high school football. Missed one game and went snow skiing a few weeks later. Not a big deal. A knee brace can almost completely eliminate the pain when running. I realize I was in high school but I played guard and center and was oblivious to the pain during the game. My guess is if this was to happen during the season, if early in the week, he would probably see a few series of the game that week and start the next.
  4. I think it's funny how all of these "experts" do these predictions and it seems as though they never speak of the offensive line. My goodness that is the most important part of a football team. How about instead of worrying about a defensive secondary replacing some guys that is coached by one of the best defensive coaches in the country worry about an offensive line that played awful down the stretch last year and is coached by an unproven Barney Cotton. Please no one say Cotton is a proven coach because I will throw up.
  5. Man you gotta love how Rex is taking this year on. He seems to be the one stepping out publically as a leader. He is already one of my favorite players of all time. You can not ask for a player to demonstrate the way Nebraska players do thing more than Rex has. From all accounts he is one of the hardest working players on the team. He does as he is asked. Great guy and I would root for him even if he didn't play for Nebraska. Sexy Rexy is going to tear up the BIG 10 like a pitbull on a 2 year old.
  6. Wow Tressel knowingly lies to the NCAA and people on this board are almost apologizing for him. It amazes me what a sweater vest and some glasses can do to pull a blind eye over people. The amount of violations alone is enough to condem most coaches but Tressel is paraded around as this figure of integrity. I makes me sick to look at him. I hope he stays at that school that loses to the SEC on a consistent baises and makes the conference that our beloved huskers recently joined look bad. I hate everything about Ohio State and hate everything about the favoritism shown to them by the NCAA. Allowing those players to play in that bowl game was a discrace. I hope Nebraska beats them so bad that Tressel gives all his sweater vest to NU fans to burn in downtown Lincoln.
  7. I realize we have made some changes to the coaching staff along all of the offense. Some how though we managed to keep Barney Cotton. He may be a great coach and the previous system was just to predictable or maybe the talent just wasn't there. If the offensive line play doesn't improve we will see another season of a team that only needs a few points to win and they can't do it. The size of the offensive line looks to have improved. I just hope that the skill and footwork has also improved. It just seemed last year that defensive ends had a step on the line almost as if they had the snap count patterned. To me that points to fundamentals. The main job of the offensive line coach is to teach the fundementals. So as I watched last year while everyone else was screaming at Watson through the tv I was screaming at Cotton. The fact that the fundementals I saw in d-2 football games was better than those of the Nebraska offensive line made me sick. Maybe the offensive play book was so extensive that Cotton had little time for fundementals and had to focus on the game plan. It is my hope that with Beck in as coordinator and a simpler play book Cotton will be able to focus on the fundementals. Maybe if this happens we will have the kinds of offensive lines that I grew up watching in the 90's.
  8. How bout not having another o'fer. We didn't win a MNC in the 00's how bout we win one in the 10's. Beating texas will probably have to happen first but either would be nice.
  9. I think the big twelve should think more outside of the box. What about tbs tnt or versus. I realize those are not giant tv networks but my guess is football would boost their ratings. Having a big twelve network would be nice but I don't see that happening. Espn is out, fox is out, cbs is out, and I really doubt nbc will spend much money. I don't care what channel the games are on as long as they are on.
  10. Wow my previous topic about wanting to run an offense like alabama really might come true. To hear wats talk about Alabama makes me so happy. If we start attacking the interior defense of texas and ou and avoid counter their speedy defense by punching them in the gut we will beat them consistently. Ever since the trend of spread offense took over the big twelve I have said the first team to go away from that will win. These teams are building defenses to stop spread offenses so therefore they should struggle against power run teams. Man I'm getting excited for this next season. Long live power football.
  11. Yeah it should be an unwritten rule but there is always some guy on every football team who practices like he's rudy.
  12. This is a good idea for about a week. I just hope someone trying to win a spot on defense doesn't try and take a big shot on a qb and end up hurting them. I don't have much confidence in green and even less in martinez. Of course I haven't seen martinez play much but I believe our season will ride on the health of lee. With the compitition we will have at linebacker and d-end I'm worried someone will take a big shot on a qb and drive his throwing shoulder into the ground, much like what happened to sam bradford.
  13. I am working on the real stats now I posted the original on my phone. You have no idea how hard it is to find the rushing stats on some of these teams. Maybe I'm just to new to this any adavice?
  14. With all the arguments over what kind of offenses to run I looked up all the national champions since 1990. If you look back most of the teams favored running the ball and playin defense. 1990: colorado/georgia tech, both teams had a good running game and a good defense. 1991: miami/washington Miami threw the ball quite a bit but were also very good at running it. Don't know much about that washington team. 1992: alabama Saun Alexander was a really good back and their defense was crazy good. 1993: florida state I think everyone remembers how this team played. 1994: Nebraska Obviously followed the recipe 1995: Nebraska See 1994 1996: florida Air attack obviously under Spurrier 1997: Nebraska/Michigan We know what Nebraska did but Michigan also had a good power running attack with a really good oline not to mention a really good defense. 1997: Tennessee T. Martin ran the offense and was a very good running QB 1999: Florida State Sorry guys for some reason I barely remember this team. Some help on this year please 2000: Oklahoma Really good running team and great defense. 2001: Miami They had probably the most rediculous stable of running backs in recent memory. 2002: Ohio State Maurice Clarret was awesome this year and the sweater vest always has a good d 2003: LSU/USC Nick Saban was the coach at LSU so they played much like Bama this year. USC had Bush and White so they ran the ball well. 2004: USC See 2003 2005: Texas Vince young was a lot better running than throwing and the defense was good. 2006: Florida Their offense is so wierd but even then much of it was based on speedy running backs and reverses and shuffle passes. 2007: LSU The hat had lester at running back and the offense was a power running style. 2008: Florida Once again wierd offense but rushing stats from that year are really impressive. 2009: Bama Power running and probably the best defense besides us last year. Looking at all those teams you can see a lot of trends amurge. The thing that surprises me the most is the amount of mobile qbs. Obviously you can't win without a good defense but almost all of those teams ran the ball very well. This is just proof that we need to run the ball downhill and control the clock. Sorry if you think this post is pointless and sorry for any mistakes or false statements I made. I typed this on my phone so didn't get much research in.
  15. I am a Nebraska fan but I can't help but notice some people hating on Gabbert. That is understandable I guess but if a soph. Qb at Nebraska had the skill set that he has we would be drooling over him and calling him a heisman hopeful. The kid can plain and simply throw the ball. Also if I remember correctly he had quite a few rushing yard in high school so to call him a one dimensional pocket passer is just misinformed. He will make better decisions this year and if they change their running attack to a more downhill style they will be tuff to stop. Nebraska will hold them under twenty points simply because of our defensive scheme but they will average around 30 a game.
