The really sad thing is, this actually happened. When they first moved to Denver, there was an article by some national writer that stated that it was a terrible name because "Avalanches kill people". and speaking of hockey-- the New Jersey Devils... I mean c'mon.

Possible they release him and hope to re-sign him to the practice squad. They would risk losing him to another team though.

It will probably be Crick and Tim Jamison. I wonder if Matt Schaub thought Smith's helmet swing was "Texan-worthy" (per his comments about Suh last year).

I'm forgetting the exact game but if memory serves it was 2003 vs CU... anyway, when he was under any kind of pressure, Jammal Lord would always run out of bounds, ball firmly in hand. 10-15 yard loss... On one play, he threw the ball away just before stepping over the line and he got a huge cheer from the crowd- on an incomplete pass. I was among those cheering and was surprised when so many others did so as well as it was an automatic reaction. Listening to the radio afterwards people called in with exactly the same reaction as now. some saying it was unbecoming and wrong. Others saying it was a genuine celebratory cheer. In both cases, call it sarcasm or whatever you want but personally I was happy with the result of the play vs the alternative we'd been seeing all game (or in the case of 2003, all season).

and this... He also had a 42 kickoff return in the last preseason game. He was very impressive as a blocker last year so the move to TE wasn't that much of a surprise. It was known that Cooley was probably going to be released eventually. He's had injury issues and a big pay check. Still, it had to be a tough decision since the guy is a big time fan favorite and even said he couldn't imagine wearing another uniform.

In one game I had a proud memory as a Husker fan and a bad one. At the 2004 Colorado game, plenty of our own fans showed their love of Steve Pederson by booing when Bob Brown merely mentioned his name. Here's a guy giving an emotional speech in acceptance of getting his number retired. his voice is cracking and he thanks the athletic director... and its answered with a smattering of boos. it was a minority of the crowd but it was still a significant number. I have NEVER been embarrassed to be a Husker fan before or since but I was at that moment. At the end of the game CU players (obviously very happy and cocky that they had just ended Nebraska's chance of continuing the bowl streak) were applauded when they left the field. I think most fans likely clapped because of our reputation for doing so since its a kind of tradition. but whatever the motive- better than throwing bottles or obscenities. Obviously its not always 100% foolproof or true but I take a lot more pride in that reputation/tradition we have as fan base and trying to uphold it than I would if outside fans were afraid to come to Memorial Stadium. As far as treatment of Wiscy fans, the 2002/2003 PSU series comes to mind. After the way their fans acted in Happy Valley, I thought the Thank You from Paterno (recent news aside) and the school for how they were treated in our stadium was far better than any battery tossing. With or without the 'W', though that didn't hurt.

Love the pic above. I hope they keep the helmet but i'm not completely, 100% against a change there. As long as its done well. The danger with Red/White/Black is looking too much like TTech. there needs to be a safe separation from their uni's For historical uniforms I have loved the 1929's for years! The Michigan uniforms last year proved that something like this can be done and look good. Wouldn't mind seeing the striped socks from the 1894 picture as well... but that might venture close to "outlandish". The only downside is this wouldn't fit for any special occasion or anniversary. just an excuse to wear a different jersey. The last couple years i think there were a couple chances missed for historical uniforms: 2010: 1940 jerseys honoring the Rose Bowl team 2011: honoring the 1971 champions

Damn straight. For those that didn't see it, I thought there would be plenty of Suh-trashing but it was almost across the board against the Falcons' player. His whining to the media was a bigger issue than anything Suh may or may not have said. A QB (Dilfer), a WR (Chris Carter), a coach (Ditka), a LB (Tim Jackson) and a hockey player (Matt Barnaby) were fired up calling out Roddy for airing it in public instead of on the field or to Suh's face. The only remote dissent was the college bball analyst who said Suh had a rep' for being "dirty".

I love that BTN follows guys in the NFL for the conference! They give twitter updates, etc. but I don't like that they short-changed us EVERY offensive lineman we have in the NFL. I was already on edge about the way the Fresno game was going, but then to see us incorrectly listed with only 25 players in the NFL?? They forgot to count Raiola, Hochstein, Nicks, Murtha, Slauson, and Incognito. but they included Cody Glenn, who was cut by Indy. The Big 12 website used to short-change us every year with their NFL count. While I assume that that was Texas' fault on some level, I trust that the BTN's mistake was an honest one. ***EDIT: the top of the page says only stat-positions are included, so that explains the linemen. But they are still have us a 25 players instead of 28.

and that has what to do with college football? It doesn't matter if Taylor never plays a down in the NFL 4+ years from now. Only that he stays healthy and scores points in the years he has left to play with an N on his helmet. If i were a Michigan fan I'm pretty sure I'd rather have an extra MNC or two over watching Tom Brady win in an NFL uniform. Just as I prefer 3 MNC's and a Heisman over anything Frazier/Frost/Crouch might have done in the NFL had they been pocket passers.

I hope that's not true. Because after all I've been hearing about your fan base, that would be kind of a lame excuse. Especially since you joined the land of the 100,000+ stadium. Before announcing the expansion they conducted a survey of donors, season ticket holders, etc. iirc the responses basically said: Yes we want more seats, but not if it would conceivably threaten the sellout streak someday. That was the "excuse" used as to why they expanded-- but not over-expanded. As has been mentioned, Nebraska may have "joined the land" of 100,000 seat stadiums but it still doesn't have the population base of a Michigan, Pennsylvania, or Ohio.

vs CU in 1993, surrounded by TVs all showing the game at a Sears in Denver. It was the first football game I'd ever watched and I remember asking my father to explain the whole concept of a "first down". i was pretty much hooked after that.
