It's spread out some since I lived there, theres a used car lot on every corner or a fast food joint. I used to DJ at a bar there called Brokers Lounge. That was a rockin place at the time!! BLKSHRTS
I grew up in GI... what a place.. I live in Virginia Beach VA now and only get back a few times a year. Every time I go home though it seems like there is something new being built on the north end of town. It's not that big of a @#$% hole though really..it could be worse believe me. T-BONE
I grew up in Hastings and went to G.I. alot and its not all that bad. I tell ya what they have good mexican food there!! Quote Link to comment
hskerprid
Since they expanded out on the western side of town it isn't so bad. There are no jobs there though. I worked at the meat packing plant back when it was Monforts. Was a partying little town for awhile though. Quote Link to comment
huzkerbob
If by partying town you mean completely awash in hardcore drugs, youth gangs, and crooked cops. Then yeah, what a party town! But one of the more embarassing facts about G.I. is that a town of 40,000 ppl has NO public school bus system! Wonder where all that extra $$$ is going? But hey, maybe I just saw the dirtier side of G.I. For a little taste drive on over to the east side of the tracks, that's where all the real folks live anyway. As for the good mexican food. That's definatly true. Can't even find food that good here in Texas! A shout out to all the ladies at La Mexicana. (4th & Sycamore) Best beef tacos in town, no doubt! Used to get some huge steak burritos right off 2nd & Eddy too. Have to go to both every time I'm back visiting relatives. So I guess there is something to like about G.I. after all! Uh, I did live on the east side actually. Anyway, I graduated in 79 so the bangers from the G.I. "Hood" weren't present yet ( or were just getting started). Hey the decadent 80's, what are ya gonna do? Used to be fun with the tri-city hot rod clubs. Used to cruise my 68 GTO ragtop on Locust all the time! Quote Link to comment
