LINCOLN Nebraska senior Kelsey Griffin was named to the Associated Press All-America basketball team Tuesday, the first such honor for a Husker player in 17 years.

Griffin was the Huskers' top scorer (20.2 points per game) and rebounder (10.4), leading NU to a 32-2 record and its first-ever appearance in the NCAA tournament Sweet 16. She was named Big 12 player of the year earlier this month after helping Nebraska to its first conference title in 22 years.

This year's AP All-America first team also includes Virginia's Monica Wright, Ohio State's Jantel Lavender, and Connecticut stars Maya Moore and Tina Charles.

Griffin's also a finalist for the Naismith Trophy, the Wade Trophy, the Wooden Award, the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award and the V Foundation Comeback Award. She's expected to be selected early in the WNBA draft on April 8.

Nebraska's Karen Jennings was named a Kodak first-team All-American in 1993. She won the Wade Trophy that year, too.

Moore and Charles have helped UConn to an NCAA-record 75 straight wins the past two seasons. They are unanimous choices of the 40-member national media panel. Voting was done before the NCAA tournament.
