chamrocck
Latest from Husker Journal: Sounds like a visit is in order if we really like him and want him. Good to see us recruiting this area of southern California...lots of good players around. MAY 14, 2011. ALL TEAMS MESSAGE BOARDS KYLE MURPHY, OL, 6-7, 280, SAN CLEMENTE, CALIFORNIA Kyle has more than 20 offers, he commented on a few schools that he is considering. USC In A Need “USC said they are hurting for offensive linemen right now, guys graduating-leaving early. I can go in there and compete for playing time.” Murphy said “I’ve been up there (USC) a few times. I was up for an unofficial in February to check it out a little bit. I went up there for a spring practice back in March and the spring game.” Murphy said Childhood Favorite “I liked USC since my childhood. I live in Southern California kind of Orange County. When I was 15 I kind of grew up watching them, very enjoyable.” Murphy said Several Trips To Stanford “I’ve been there (Stanford) a couple times. I went to junior days back in February. I went back there early April during spring break on an unofficial visit, to see them practice and stuff.” Murphy said “I got their (Stanford) application if all goes to plan hopefully I’ll be admitted in that school by summer time.” Murphy said “Oregon is a good quality program.” Murphy said. “I hear from them every once in awhile, I talk to the O-Line coach. Oregon has nice facilities the NIKE thing.” Huskers’ Need To Make Up Ground “It’s a school (Nebraska) I haven’t see a whole lot of, there are so far away. I talk to the coaches a little bit, besides I don’t know a whole lot about that school. I need to look into it and check it out.” Murphy said “I haven’t talked to Michigan a lot either. I’m most familiar with the West Coast teams right now. I might visit Nebraska and Michigan, I haven’t decided where I might go to. I’ll narrow my list later this summer.” Murphy said “Lot of coaches say I’m athletic –good pad level. I can bend with my hips and stiff. Kind of like get after it.” Murphy said “All the coaches want me to commit there, but they know I expressed I want to make sure I want to make the right decision. So they are all cool with me to wait a little bit before I actually decide.” Murphy said “I want to go to school with good academics, good solid program. Some where I can fit into team and coach. All that stuff plays in factor.” Murphy said Quote Link to comment

The Inland Empire between LA and San Diego is extremely stuffed with great quality players. Carl Pelini actually has made a lot of great connections in that area. Quote Link to comment

The only dead weight we really had on the recruiting front is gone now. I would say that Marvin didnt do as much as I would have liked, Teddy did virtually nothing, Barney does alright but last years class was handed to him, Ron Brown did more recruiting last year than in the past 20 years combined with Green. The guys that work for us are JP, now Raymond (great things are expected out of him), Beck, not too sure on the new guys yet. SOME, emphasising the word SOME on other boards are a bit off the mark when they call out the effort of the staff. Quote Link to comment
teachercd
EZ, you are totally right. The "freak out kings" on the other sites think that most of this staff just sits around and wont talk to the kids. I appreciate your posts EZ, you seem to have a good grasp on things and a good understanding. 1 Quote Link to comment

This is a point that I have butted heads with many on this board about and I completely agree with you. I am stoked to see what doors Raymond gets NU into with his ties down in the southeast. Look forward to him becoming a JP-like lead recruiter. I have heard Garrison is putting forth a great effort early on and technically you could chalk Westerkamp up on him or give him a HUGE assist. As for Els, he recruited me in HS when he was at Hastings, we'll see how that may or may not have changed. And as for the criticizing of the staff, I say it can be just as bad here with some as it is on the "other" boards. Quote Link to comment
EZ-E
Agree on that part Paul. I would say that Carl and Bo don't really take too many of the leads on the guys we recruit. I would say that when Bo or Carl take the lead, (Braylon Heard comes to mind) it is serious. I think Els was a huge recruiting upgrade as was Garrison. Quote Link to comment

PaulCrewe
I will go out on the limb and say the three Cali Pac10/12 teams are leading for this one. The Stanford thing will hinge a lot on Kyle's academics. UCLA and USC are the "comfort zones" for the kid. USC has a big need for offensive lineman and as Kyle has said are a childhood favorite so thinking they are the leaders. There is a lot of ground to make up here. Hopefully, a chance to make up that ground happens, otherwise this guy is all west coast. Quote Link to comment
