How do we feel about a Big 10 Baseball Tourney at Werner Park in Omaha?

Big Ten officials toured the park Monday and heard Sarpy County's proposal to host the event from 2013 through 2016. Werner Park is one of nearly a dozen other sites being considered for the baseball tournament. A final decision is expected this spring or summer.

I've never been so I don't know, but from what I saw online, it doesn't look nearly as good as TD Ameritrade Park. Any reason the B1G isn't going after the good baseball park in Omaha?

The only thing that I can think of would be scheduling conflicts. There's probably no other reason they shouldn't look at TD Ameritrade. But, lots of stuff goes on there.

Also, the park isn't designed for small venues like conference championships... (to many empty seats)

 

Honestly, unless the BIG is wanting to promote Nebraska and in particular, the Huskers Baseball program, I don't see Werner having a chance in hell. Seriously, what BIG school wants to travel to the farthest possible western location? Maybe Werner is considered in hopes of generating interest as the BIG knows the seats will be filled. Is there any other projected site that can say "the seats will be filled" with relative confidence? We can hope but the truth is, the BIG is all about the $$$ and traveling to Omaha doesn't equate to enough $$$ to be justified.

Doesn't Creighton play their home games at TD? I'm sure the crouwds for a Big 10 tourney will have a better turnout than a CU game. Your other factors may come into play though.

It's equal to Big 12 football title game being in Dallas and Houston.

I think there is much more appeal to have it a td rather than werner. The way you get the east schools to want to play in omaha is to take them to the holy grail.

 

 

The kids will want to play there... their families and schools will want to travel there just because most if not all have never and will never get to play there.

I was a little surprised with Werner being in the mix as well. I love the park and have been to several Stormchaser games there. It is a great park, but if you are going to have it here why not put it in TD Ameritrade. The conference needs exposure and motivation to improve, what better a way than to put the conf championship right where the CWS is played? I would love it in Omaha regardless of where it is played though as I will go. I live pretty close to Werner anyways so it would be good for me!

I would much rather have the tourney in a smaller stadium where it looks "fuller" compared to a stadium that seats 20-25,000 and looks rather empty. Some of the same comments about why the Omaha Royals/stormchasers didn't want to play in TD.

Yeah... Maybe B1G baseball gains momentum over the next few years and the tourny THEN could be placed in TD.

MVC Tourney is held at TD during the same weekend as B1G so TD Ameritrade is not an option.

The thing is. If it is at TD or Werner games not involving Nebraska will draw the exact same either place.

 

The drawback of Werner is that if Nebraska makes the championship you limit yourself to the 9,000 Werner holds, when Nebraska could easily pull at least 15,000 fans.

How many $$$ would the B1G save by booking Werner Park instead of TD Ameritrade for 3 to 5 days? I will not subject myself to ridicule with my uneducated guess.
