Nissan Heisman trophy poll

Hey all, I was browsing around on ESPN and saw that there is a Heisman trophy poll up already. Anyone have any idea who to contact about getting T-Magic on the list? With Sexy Rexy's injury, even if he only misses a game or two, will hurt his stats enough that I don't think he can win the Heisman. That being said, Martinez's aerial display has shown, IMHO, that he can be a legitimate Heisman candidate. Now obviously this is still very early in the season, but if they have a poll up already, we need to get on it.

Here's the link, ladies and gentlemen.

Foppa, I understand your point, but wouldn't having yet another Heisman candidate and/or winner at Nebraska help with recruiting? Bo Pelini is known as a defensive minded coach who nearly coached the 1st Dlineman to win the Heisman, so having an OFFENSIVE player in the running can only help us out. Not to mention that 9/10 the winner of the Heisman is usually on a team in contention for the NC. So while I see your point, that the focus should be on the team, I believe that having T-Mart as a Heisman candidate can only help the team out by getting more exposure for Nebraska to those recruits who may not know that much about us.

I'm not saying it's wrong for these guys to get individual awards. I'm all for it. But the team playing together and getting the job done is what should matter most. The individual awards come when that happens. Sure it's great for recruiting, but like I've said in the past, this team needs less distractions and more continuity and focus. Let the media concentrate on the players, let the players concentrate on the team.

My opinion:

If T-Mart is Heisman worthy, no need for us to mention it. The fact will become obvious by the 2nd conference game. If that happens, and his performance maintains, NU will promote him far more effectively than the fans can. We come off as blind homers in doing so, I think.

If he is worthy of consideration, he will get it.

One thing to keep in mind, that I keep forgetting, myself:

Heisman is for the best player in CFB.

It is not for the "Most Improved" player in CFB. T-Mart, so far, looks strong in this second category.

Whether he matches up as the best in CFB, not just most-improved, is something that will become very obvious later, if it is true.

While they started a website for Rex, they never started one for Suh and I think Suh deserved that award. The school never came out and said they thought he was worthy of the Heisman. I've NEVER seen a defensive player dominate the field like Suh did in 2009. Now having said that it seems to be an offensive players award. No way T-mart gets it this season. If he has a great season he'll be in the mix next year by default because it'll make headlines.

if his numbers stay consistent throughout every game like saturday (which they won't, but they say they would) not question he would be in the talk, with over 70% completion and 3,500 yards passing with 750 rushing.

Hmmmm, I don't recall that, but it's possible. If they did it wasn't until late in the season once talks about him really heated up.

I'd hope so, but I have a feeling he wouldn't be......they've already decided Barkley is the second coming of Christ. I think he'd be a serious contender next year if he puts up good numbers.

If there is validity in that statement, then the heisman is a joke.

To even get invited to New York, you have to have outstanding stats and be on a great team. RGIII's win last year came from one of the "worst" teams for a Heisman winner in quite awhile:

Top three in recent years with final ranking and team losses:

2011 - RGIII (#12, 3 losses), Luck (#4, 1 loss), Richardson (#2, 1 loss)

2010 - Newton (#1, 0 losses), Luck (#4, 1 loss), James (#2, 0 losses)

2009 - Ingram (#1, 0 losses), Gerhart (#21, 4 losses), McCoy (#2, 0 losses)

2008 - Bradford (#1, 1 loss), McCoy (#3, 1 loss), Tebow (#2, 1 loss)

2007 - Tebow (#12, 3 losses), McFadden (#25, 4 losses), Brennan (#10, 0 losses)

2006 - Smith (#1, 0 losses), McFadden (#12, 3 losses), Quinn (#11, 2 losses)

2005 - Bush (#1, 0 losses), Young (#2, 0 losses), Leinart (#1, 0 losses)

2004 - Leinart (#1, 0 losses), Peterson (#2, 0 losses), White (#2, 0 losses)

2003 - White (#3, 2 losses), L. Fitzgerald (#26, 4 losses), E. Manning (#17, 3 losses)

2002 - Palmer (#5, 2 losses), B. Banks (#3, 1 loss), L. Johnson (#10, 3 losses)

So in the last 10 years, only two guys have won it with more than two losses (RGIII and Tebow); everyone else was ranked in the Top 5. And only six others made the top 3 with more than 2 losses.

You have to be on a top team or have unbelievable stats to be in contention.

The Heisman has been a joke for a long time now......didn't you get the memo?
