Pissed they got Eakin, very solid squad indeed. Stars first game is against them, should be interesting.

A 10-1 loss will skew that figure. Also, I am surprised y'all took Niemi.

Looks Like Seattle's Going To Get An NHL Team

Quote

There are still many things that need to happen before Seattle ices its first major league hockey team since 1924, but after Thursday’s announcement by the NHL, it seems like it’s just a matter of time.

A day after the city of Seattle signed an memorandum of understanding on a $660 million renovation of KeyArena, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman announced the the league has authorized a Seattle ownership group to file an application expansion for a franchise to begin play in the 2020-21 season. Bettman put the brakes on any celebrations when he explicitly said what this is not:

“That doesn’t mean we have granted an expansion team,” Commissioner Bettman said following the Board of Governors meeting. “We have agreed as a league to take and consider an expansion application and to let them run in the next few months a season ticket drive.”

I'd rather not see the league get more watered down with another expansion team but, if not, this will definitely start the worries here in AZ about the Coyotes leaving. They've been long rumored as a possibility for Seattle, once they were granted a team.

Another first last night: The original Winnipeg franchise is now in Arizona. This Winnipeg franchise came from the Atlanta Thrashers. Last night was their first playoff win EVER in their 20+ year history.

Vegas had a really cool intro to their game featuring a Knight "fighting" a King on the ice. Video here: https://deadspin.com/this-is-what-playoff-hockey-in-vegas-looks-like-1825196421

Marshy's a great player who has earned a bad rep, of course, but he wasn't the villain of the game last night:

Sportsnet.CA

I don't see how that's a bad elbow to the face.  He might not even have made contact.

p.s. - I have been unable to access this site for weeks or I might have joined in on the bracket challenge.  Good luck, you hosers!

At first glance, I thought it was an elbow, but on the replay it just looks like very minor incidental contact. The follow up by hit by Kadri was dirty as hell though

It was the same for me.  Those shots at a guy on his knees are always scary.  It made me think of this one from a long time ago:

Hartnell versus Alberts

Yeesh. That's ugly.

I wish they would switch over to the international size rinks. It might save a few brains

That stick save was something else.  It's a shame about the first goal coming from a power play that wasn't earned (delay of game given for a puck that clearly hit the boards on its way into the seats - there was even a linesman who ducked and probably heard the contact) but dem's da breaks.

Little tired this morning.   Took a “minute” to get out of the arena and adjacent parking garage.  Got back a little after midnight.

Got some catching up to do:

Jets win the series over the Wild, 4-1

Lightning win the series over the Devils, 4-1

Pens win the series over the Flyers, 4-2. Probably a good thing there isn't going to be a game 7. There was some blood boiling yesterday.

Preds win the series over the Avs, 4-2.

Caps and Bruins look to win their series tonight. If not, game 7(s) will be on Wednesday.
