OT

-collar ties, Kokesh double leg attempt

-Evans sweep single attempt, Kokesh sprawl and spins around for TD [Kokesh 6-4]

FINAL Kokesh wins 6-4

Kokesh and Evans did not meet at all this season, so even though this was only the Cons SemiFinals and not the Finals, this was a great match. This match was one of opposing styles on their feet. Evans often uses collar ties and pressure to make his oppenent uncomfortable and off balance, which allows him to execute solid single and double leg attempts. However, Kokesh, who likes to keep space with heavy hands and wristle control, made Evans wrestle his match. As a result, Kokesh was able to look in control for most of the match. Kokesh led by two late in the 3rd so was playing defense, which was a mistake as it allowed Evans to get is offense going and force OT with a TD. Once in OT though, Kokesh went back on the offense and scored off of a badly timed single leg attempt by Evans. Great match by Kokesh. If you have any young ones in junior high or HS, this would be a mat for them to watch and learn from.

LOL. Kokesh fist bumped the Ohio St fans because he prevented currently #2 Iowa from closing the gap with currently #1 Ohio St in Team Point, Ohio St 90 and Iowa 82.

This was a fun match up, pitting two South Dakota products and B1G opponents. These two did not meet during the regular season, but this is their second match in post-season championship competition (the match was during the B1G Championship were Kokesh won 2-1). Kokesh was only 6 second of riding time from wrapping this match up, but he dictated the pace in OT and showed why he went undefeated this year.

Dudley had a solid tournament as a sophomore. He looks in control of most of his matches, from all three positions. In this match, it seemed Dudley and Miklus were even on their feet. Dudley was clearly a better rider on top; however, Miklus got a critical escape with a few seconds left in the match to win.

Two thirds and a top ten team finish is nothing to sneeze at.........

Those 3rds are arguably more difficult since your dream of a championship is gone.........it takes tremendous mental discipline to come back and compete hard enough to get 3rd.

Congrats to those guys and the entire team!

Was at the Wyoming Dual.

Nebraska came out and dominated. With the exception of Abidin. Felt bad for him but that Meredith kid is completely underrated. My buddy told me right before the match he thought Meredith would win. I was in disbelief.

Anyway these were the results from Nov 21st.

Team Score #4 NU 35 Wyo 4

125: #11 Tim Lambert (NU) dec Drew Templeman (Wyo) 7-5 (OT)

133: Colton McCrystal (NU) maj dec Gunnar Woodburn (Wyo) 16-4

141: Bryce Meredith (Wyo) maj dec #9 Anthony Abidin (NU) 13-4

149: #5 Jake Sueflohn (NU) maj dec Jake Elliot (Wyo) 14-3

157: #12 Tyler Berger (NU) dec Archie Colgan (Wyo) 8-1

165: #4 Austin Wilson (NU) PIN Chaz Polson (Wyo) :48 (Wilson hit a sick Twister, good grief it was nasty)

174: #20 Micah Barnes (NU) dec #11 Ben Stroh (Wyo) 9-7

184: #7 TJ Dudley (NU) PIN Jace Jensen (Wyo) 1:20

197: #14 Aaron Studebaker (NU) dec Brandon Tribble (Wyo) 10-3

Nebraska beat Maryland last night 30-9.  Wrestle against Rutgers today.  Rutgers has some nice wins under their belt this year.  They may be pretty tough to beat.

I was at the Maryland Dual. Great team win. Nebraska dismantled them. Unlucky lose by Berger. He got pinned during a scramble, then things got chippy afterward.

Heartbreaking lose to #11 Rutgers. There were some major upsets in that dual to give them the victory. Nebraska's next six opponents are not going to be any easier: #15 Wisconsin, #17 Minnesota, #1 Penn State, #3 Ohio State, #2 Iowa, #12 Illinois. B1G Wrestling is no joke.

Great job by the wrestling team! A second place finish at Midlands is a big deal. Each bracket had 32+ wrestlers, and there were about 5 or so Top 25 teams participating. B1G grabbed the top third spots by a large margin, another great look.

Here is the link to the full tournament. As I watch the tournament, I might post some thoughts I have here.

This is a great win by the Huskers!

https://twitter.com/huskerextra/status/685686874971586560

I anticipate the Huskers can go 4-2 (including this recent win vs Wisky). If that could pick up a 5th win some how, that will tremendous.

Great win by the Huskers over Minnesota. Big upset from Abidin over Thorn. That was a nice match to watch. The HWT match was also awesome.

Started off hot ranked 6th in the nation now. Team looks to be pretty solid With great wrestlers at 133 Montoya, 157 Berger, and 184 Dudley. Will be interesting to follow once we get into duals with all the B1G teams. Iowa, Ohio St., and Penn State are all ranked higher than Nebraska.

Nebraska is having a great campaign this year so far. Their dual team is stacked with top-ranked Seniors, so we should expect good things from them. Case in point, they gave NC State their first dual loss is almost two years two weeks ago (I think NC State only lost to Virginia Tech last year).

Love watching Coach Manning and the boys.

Just watched this match for the 157 lb Midland Championship. I teach my wrestlers that if you don't want a match to be in the refs hands, keep it in yours, but Berger got hosed in the OT with a no call on the takedown.

I agree. It was close, but I think he had control long enough for it to count.

Wish I could make the trip to Iowa City for the rematch. Thought a fight was happening after Midlands!!

Berger is a fiery guy, and it seems like he gets more than his fair share of close, meaningful matches.

Nebraska picked up a commitment from Alex Thomsen, one of the best high school wrestlers in the nation.  Very good get
