ESPN female announcer?

Agreed, and I hate like hell that it sounds like a typical sexist or chauvinist comment. I sure don't intend it that way, or mean it that way.

However, if a lady is going to call games, I would greatly prefer she sound like a lady, and have a somewhat attractive and pleasant speaking voice. It is also a requirement I want and enjoy from male announcers, when it happens.

Overall, I think ALL announcers should generally sound clear, pleasant, and be able to accurately describe what is happening and provide decent insight. There are also many male announcers I prefer not to listen to for the same reasons.

I suppose the issue is magnified by the proportionate lack of female callers in the business right now. Hopefully it changes or begins to soon.

I feel, in general, the same about men and women announcers as I stated above.

However, it seems like there is a simple criteria for ESPN and female announcers.

Have you smoked six packs a day for at least ten years, and have you been working a major city vice squad for eight of those years?

Okay, you're hired.

It sounds terrible and I hope it changes soon. There are a ton of female voices I would love to hear announce a game. Perhaps they just aren't interested, so far, in college football.

Beth Mowens. Worst announcer I've ever heard. She tries so hard to sound like one of the guys.

That's why I don't like her and why I don't like that they have her as an announcer. If you're going to hire a woman that sounds like a man, what's the point in hiring a woman? It's like they think it's not acceptable to have a feminine woman who's knowledgeable about football calling the games. Apparently the only football-related job a woman is capable of doing is being a sideline reporter who flirts with the players. Or being Condoleeza Rice.
