Club Volleyball

Recommended Posts

Anyone else have a daughter playing Club? Mine plays for vcNebraska down in Lincoln. Our bigger tournaments are in Omaha, KC, Chicago, and Orlando. (We are a JVA club, not USAV) Would be interesting if any of you would be at the same tournaments...in a non-stalker way.

I also coach a 12u team in Papillion that just does local tournaments (USAV).

My daughter plays 14's in Colorado. I believe it is USAV sanctioned. We'll do five power tournaments with a regional playoff and two other tourneys plus crossroads in Denver. If they finish top 2 at regionals (which they won't )I they would advance to the national tournament.

This will be her third year of club ball. We've never had to travel out of state, unlike when my son played inline hockey and ice hockey. She desperately wants to play vball at UNL. She's a really good setter but I don't think she'll make it to a top twenty D1 program but I'm sure not going to discourage the dream. If she stays motivated, I think she could play at the college level. I expect she'll be playing varsity as a freshman from what I've seen but so much can change in only a year or two at this age.

I have chased club vball teams all over Nebraska to tournaments in Kearney to Omaha for probably 8 years. I think this is the first year I won't because my oldest is graduating and she was the one who really loved volleyball. My second I think is switching to cross country.

I absolutely loved it when we were doing it and was SO glad they switched from softball to volleyball. Softball is just evil.

I know I'm going to love the extra free time I have but I'm going to miss watching them play.

My daughter did the travel softball thing the past 2 years but gave it up this season. I liked softball but we did tend to travel further more often and some of those days of 90+ temps and sun....woof. And the practices would start in November, tourneys in March, culminating in July, so about 75% of the year. Got cured of thinking it was great this past season when we went to OKC for a big tournament and had to hunker down through the F5 tearing up town. Eh, I'll miss it but it was going to have stop in a year anyway because high school volleyball and softball are same season and vball is by far her favorite.

Not really sure if my daughter is looking forward to playing HS volleyball. She is definitely going to, but I think she is "all in" on the Club atmosphere, even though she'll be playing Class A at a (recently) historic HS program (Papillion South). I wish we were hitting Colorado Crossroads this year...we are going to KC, in April, for the USAV Qualifier. Good luck to everyone who has started tournaments!

Softball literally takes up almost your entire year. The tournaments are all weekend out in either freezing cold or 100 degree heat. You are either slopping through mud or eating dust. Basically your summer is taken up with nothing but Softball. And, unfortunately, around here, club softball is ran by the parents that basically can fu** up any good kid activity.

With Volleyball, it's in the winter when you don't have anything you would rather be doing outside. The tournaments are one day and the season is shorter. I'm sure this is different for people who go to national tournaments. But, we never had that opportunity living away from Lincoln or Omaha.

That pretty well describes softball season BRB. Cold & wet or brutal hot & dry.

Tood- Colorado Crossroads is insane. We did that for the first time last season. 90 some courts going at the same time in one room. By some mistake or miscalculation on the part of our club, we got thrown in the top tier group last year. We were lumped in with the top 32 teams at 13U. My daughters team was only about 12th to 16th in Colorado so top 32 basically nationally is not where we belonged. First day of the tourney we played the defending national champs from the previous year (something like Mad Frog Club out of Texas somewhere) on the exhibition court that was being streamed live. Those 13's could have given a lot of college teams a game. I swear most of them were pushing 6'. They ended up pretty much just toying with us. I think it was something like 25-4 & 25-7. And that's how most of the tournament went for us. We made it to mid to high teens only a few times. We did finally win a match on the last day and finished 31 of 32 in our division. Anyway, got off on a tangent there but we did see some really good volleyball. I had no idea there were 13-14-15 year old girls capable of playing at that level. And it's a lot of volleyball for the girls too. My daughter is a setter and she had to ice down each day at Crossroads and she never has to do that. She was pretty sore by the last day.

Gotta love when the other team has a service error and gives you points doesn't it????

LOL...we have been in the same situation going against teams we had no business being paired with.

That's what a volleyball team is supposed to look like. :thumbs Congrats Tood.

We're in for a rollercoaster ride with my daughters team this year. First power tournament they finished 1-4 and dead last (8th) in their division. But, they played well for the most part and the team they did beat took first place so go figure. Her 2nd power tournament was Superbowl Sunday and they went 4-0 and took first place. Won first 3 games in 2 sets each and the championship game went past regulation points in all 3 sets. Like 29-27, 26-28, 16-14. It was real edge of your seat stuff. I missed the first quarter of the SB because of volleyball.....wish it would've taken about 3 hours longer now.

Thanks JJ, they are a fun group to coach. We got 2nd in last weekends tournament. Congrats to your daughter's team on the wins!

My daughter's team finished 2nd in their first tourney last weekend. They went undefeated until the championship game where they got swept 25-22 25-23. They were happy with the way they played since they played up an age level. Nothing this weekend as they get ready for the big 3-day President's Day tourney at the Century Link Center.

Good luck next weekend. We also have one next weekend, RMR Showdown right here in good ole Greeley. Fairly large tourney played at about 6 different venues around town. I really like this one- virtually no travel so we get to sleep in a bit. Our Saturday games will be only about 1 mile from our house. Saweet!
