Competition on the Offensive Line

Recommended Posts

So far Lewis, Sterup and Knevel seem to be near the top at the tackle spots with Lewis really impressing for no longer than he's been with the team.

At guard, Moudy is out for the spring with a shoulder injury. Cotton seems to have put in a lot of work in the weight room over the winter and is looking the part. In Moudy's absence, Givens Price has been getting a lot of reps at RG.

Mark Pelini is the favorite at C but Ryne Reeves has been getting some work there as well as at G.

At today's scrimmage, Pelini and Reeves rotated at C. Lewis and Cotton got a lot of reps on the left side and Price and Sterup manned the right side a lot of the time.

It's early in the process -- 5 practices into spring drills -- but Alex Lewis looks like he's ready to start. First string all the way Sat.

For some reason, I thought that Lewis was going to be a Soph. this year, but he is being listed as a Jr. Any info?

He was originally a Class of 2010 guy but greyshirted so he didn't enroll until 2011. Thus, his five-year clock started in 2011. He played two years at Colorado (2011 & 2012) then used his redshirt year last year.

Whats going on with Finnin? Is he going the way of the Seisay-bird?

I take it from some of his Tweets that he struggled to get going last year. Not sure if it was being down on the depth chart or just all that he's gone through. He seems to have re-dedicated himself but is probably just behind right now.

From the above article - not sure what this is based on but it seems pretty close:

Six practices into this spring, Cotton at left guard and junior Zach Sterup at right tackle appear most entrenched. Price has taken the majority of snaps at right guard, though senior Mike Moudy, out with a shoulder injury this spring, figures to compete for the job in August.

At center, senior Mark Pelini and junior Ryne Reeves are splitting time. And at left tackle, Colorado transfer Alex Lewis, a junior who has emerged as a top spring storyline, and redshirt freshman David Knevel, continue to compete.

Mitch Sherman, ex-OWH writer, wrote it so I am sure he is writing based in having watched the practices.
