2014 recruiting

We have a big guy in Hammond who I really like and a point in Smith who I am not crazy about. That leaves one more scholarship if I am correct.

I know Deng has been offered, and Miles has taken a hard look at the big guy in Sioux City, Okimbaze sorry about that spelling. Wouldn't it be awesome if we could haul in a transfer like the Kane kid at ISU. A player like that on this team could win the B1G next year.

OP, do you really know much about Smith and his school??? Curious because he's far more college ready than Hammond, and i like what Hammond could potentially bring to the table

Curious why you think this?

I dont have enough knowledge on either guy to make an educated opinion....

Smith is playing far far far more superior competition. St. Anthony plays top notch talent all year long and Smith has Division 1 talent in his team so the speed of the game transition will not affect him. His coach, Bob Hurley Sr., stresses fundamentals like no others often having his son come help his kids. It's a basketball factory.

Hammond played the equivalent of small Class B schools here in Nebraska. He more often than not was the biggest guy in the court. He played good competition in the summers but Smith did too and saw it during the winter as well. That is big. Hammond will need to put on weight as we all knew and figured. A redshirt year would do wonders but unless another big is brought in (ie JUCO or transfer) that option may not be available. Think how JBD looked and played as a fresh and soph, that may be the case body type wise (in regards to getting shoved around).

I knew he played in New Jersey and could guess it was a higher level, but I learned more from your post.

I was just star watching, and looking at what I feel is a bigger need with Rivers leaving.

Anyone heard any rumors about if Akoy is unhappy with his playing time at Louisville.............??

Akoy won't be coming back here. At least from what I've heard anyways. All the talent he is currently behind is leaving at the end of this year and next year he has a chance at some big time minutes next year.

And nothing against Tim Miles but if you have the chance to play for Pitino for 4 years thats something you don't transfer out of IMO.

I must have misread the roster. When they played a few days ago on TV, it looked like most of the forwards/centers were underclassmen.........that he is currently playing behind..........??

If you look at the roster he is currently behind Blackshear who is a Jr., Harrell who is a Soph. but is gone after this year as most people feel he is a top 15 pick, and Hancock is a Sr. Louisville wants Akoy to play more of a SF/PF role and not a C. Mathiang is a true C and Van Treese is also a C and a Sr. so don't look at those 2 when considering this.

So after that it basically leaves Akoy and Blackshear to play the SF and PF role next year without counting the incoming recruiting class.
