RedDenver
Starting at segment 8 of Big Red Roundtable: link Quote Link to comment
Chaddyboxer
Heard him talk about it in the past on Sharp and Benning...guys out of position, not fitting in their roles...trying to be heros. I wonder if this segment is any different. I remember PJ stating that if you're out of position...it can easily mess up the whole defense because others have to compensate. Quote Link to comment
Number12
Good insight once again from PJ. Guys staying out all night, disregarding the defensive scheme, thinking they had the game in the bag, all turned into an all time embarrassment. I still can't believe that game happened. haha Quote Link to comment

74Hunter
You guys get right outta town with that talk show excuses bullcrap. We all know that Bo made him say that. This will turn into a Bo sucks thread in 3.....2......1...... Quote Link to comment

Chaddyboxer
Really insightful podcast.....wish I knew who the "all about me" guys were....I have a slight idea...I've heard others allude to certain players in certain games completely screwing over the defense because they weren't following their assignments. These fellows are a bit more defensive minded in regards to x's and o's. And I totally understand PJ not wanting to throw anyone under the bus. It is kinda weird...yet funny though when they bring up Taylor and his decision making with the zone-read and PJ's thoughts on it. Quote Link to comment
tmfr15
P.J. says other people are selfish. And that's why he's outing them. Because he is not selfish. Don't blame PJ. It's not his fault. Sounds kind of.... I don't know.... selfish. I hear him say that he should have done things different. IMO he should not talk about it at all. Championship teams do things right on and off the field. Wisconsin was dialed in. Nebraska was not. At the end of the day, the reason Nebraska was not dialed in hardly matters. It only matters that they were not and therefor did not deserve the title of conference champions. As for Bo... it's very simple. He wants to talk about culture. He wants to talk process. Fine. He creates and culture and he dictates the process. When players are recruited.... those guys, are "the players that we wanted." We wanted players that had a me first mentality. Those guys were selfish. SHOCKER. And didn't prepare. GASP. Color me unimpressed with the whole discussion. It is my hope that Bo and Co figured out how to correct that and get that mentality OUT of the culture by recruiting guys that would do their jobs as leaders on and off the field rather than going on some radio show years later.... throwing players under the bus and saying what he SHOULD have done but DIDN'T. 5 Quote Link to comment
zoogs
What were his thoughts there, Chaddy? Can anybody do a detailed summary? The 'guys thinking they had it in the bag' thing is really interesting. You hear players say that sometimes after games and I figure, well, they're just trying to come up with the properly self-flagellating postgame soundbite. Over a full season after the fact though in presumably a more analytical setting....I wonder how this keeps happening to this team. Quote Link to comment
Count 'Bility
All i can say is this. Read up on the lever-spill-lever and the over/under schemes and techniques. Then watch that game. And I guarantee you you will have no problem placing 90% of the blame for that catastrophy on Stafford and Whaley. Quote Link to comment
shyndy
Having that "in the bag" attitude is what blows my mind. We just scraped by in many of the games that year. Quote Link to comment
HeyBurke
I think that game is the microcosm of everything wrong that has happened during Bo's tenure here: too many turnovers, lack of mental toughness, and a vastly under performing defense. Not saying that defense could have done a whole lot, anyway, since they had so many injuries. From everything we're hearing, the culture has changed after last season, so that should hopefully take care of the mental toughness and under performing defense. Let's see if they can fix the turnover issue, too. Quote Link to comment
Dr. Strangelove
Having that "in the bag" attitude is what blows my mind. We just scraped by in many of the games that year. One of those games was Wisconsin at home. Why players thought they had it 'in the bag' is just strange. Quote Link to comment

Especially considering Wisconsin had noticeably improved since their first meeting, and Nebraska didn't. Quote Link to comment
NUpolo8
Bo sucks. Discuss. His coaching methods are such that a team that got through a run of constantly having to come back to win teams they were head and shoulders more talented then, got creamed in their out of conference schedule by a first year head coach, and blasted by Ohio st inexplicably thought they could half ass their way to a victory over a team they had to frantically come from behind to barely beat. And he didn't notice that attitude taking form before the game. Quote Link to comment
