2014 Spring Volleyball

Recommended Posts

The Nebraska volleyball team wanted to play a match this spring against a good opponent to get ready for next season, but Saturday’s match was about more than that.

Nebraska hit the road to play its final spring exhibition match, facing Creighton at Wayne State College, and won 25-15, 25-19, 25-22.

The Huskers have come to Wayne previously for a spring match, but the motive behind this trip was to raise money after a tornado hit the area last fall.

Wayne State volleyball coach Scott Kneifl is friends with both Nebraska coach John Cook and Creighton’s Kirsten Bernthal Booth, and they agreed to play a match as part of a fundraiser.

“Our (Wayne State) program was out of town when the tornado hit, so we didn’t have the opportunity to help out as much as we would like to,” Kneifl said. “We thought this would be a great way to create an atmosphere that’s great for volleyball, but also give back to the community. It’s just great that Creighton and Nebraska were both willing to come up here.”

About $15,000 was raised Saturday to help rebuild a community softball and baseball complex that was damaged.
