Mavric
Nebraska has officially scrapped plans to take an overseas men’s basketball exhibition trip this summer in part, coach Tim Miles said Monday, because of the potential for a depleted roster. That’s actually good news because three Huskers have a chance for involvement in special competition. Junior guard Terran Petteway, a first-team All-Big Ten pick, has been invited to the Kevin Durant Skills Academy June 27-29 in Washington, D.C. Strong work there, Miles said, could get Petteway a spot in the LeBron James Skills Academy July 8-12 in Las Vegas. Sophomore guard Tai Webster will return to New Zealand in July to try to make his home country’s national team. Likewise, senior forward Leslee Smith will contend to make the British Virgin Islands’ national squad. “When you look at those guys’ potential travel,’’ Miles said, “it doesn’t make much sense for the trip.’’ Summer international travel also can lead to some in-season fatigue. Miles said with Nebraska playing in an eight-team Christmas tournament in Hawaii before entering Big Ten play, overdoing it was a consideration. OWH Quote Link to comment
Comish
Probably a wise move. Plus, it saves the option for next year. Quote Link to comment
Mavric
Perhaps we should work this in to our pre-game. Tai is #15 on the left Quote Link to comment
BigRedBuster
How does Tai do this and start school? Nebraska Basketball @HuskerHoops 4h Congrats to Tai Webster (@Tjawtherula) on making the New Zealand final 12-man roster for the FIBA World Cup later this month #Huskers Quote Link to comment
mrandyk
I imagine student athletes generally get placed into classes that don't require them to actually attend, especially as an underclassmen when all the Gen Eds are available online. If you were ever going to miss a week of school though this is the one to miss. First days of class, then Labor day. Quote Link to comment
BigRedBuster
True. I missed my share of classes the first week. However, if you look at the schedule, it goes well into September. Quote Link to comment
Mavric
Depending on when he leaves, he'll miss two weeks of class. I'm sure they will be working with him to get caught back up. Quote Link to comment

BigRedBuster
So, is Tai done with this and back in Lincoln now? Or, do they have more games to play? Quote Link to comment
Mavric
His team is done but I'm not sure if/when he's back. Quote Link to comment
Hedley Lamarr
I was under the impression that the university viewed this as promoting the university and he was allowed to miss class because of it 1 Quote Link to comment
