2015 Season Notes

Baseball didn’t increase the number of regular-season games, mainly because of weather concerns. They’ll play eight three-game series (24 games) over nine weeks, and won’t play four schools. The tournament featured eight teams this past year in anticipation of adding two programs.

Makes sense. Would be interesting if they did something where the whole conference opened the season in AZ or Florida playing a series for the conference. See if we can make a deal with the Cactus or Grapefruit League teams to use their stadiums. It would be a cool season kickoff event, get us out of the cold in February and potentially open up a weekend in the warmer months to host out of conference teams.

Cons would be small crowds, potentially losing a home series and missing out on the other warm weather tournaments we play in.

Great idea. Put the teams that are NOT scheduled in conference play in pods where they see each other in pool play early in warm weather.

Four sophomores-to-be were not included on Nebraska’s 40-man fall baseball practice roster released Thursday.

Beau Fandel, Michael Klein, Quinn McGill and Bryce Only have all left NU’s program since the end of last season.
Senior catcher Corey Stringer, who battled an injury and was not on the team last year, is apparently back to audition for a spot after playing for NU in 2013. He’s on the roster, as are 18 other new players (including 14 true freshmen).

I would be curious to see reasoning behind them leaving.
