Todd Gurley’s 293-yard, four touchdown all-purpose performance in Georgia’s 45-21 victory over Clemson this past Saturday has vaulted the Bulldogs running back to the top of HeismanPundit’s Heisman Straw Poll released on Tuesday (Sept. 2).

The junior from Tarboro, N.C., collected five first-place nods from the 10-member panel of Heisman voters from around the country. He appeared on every ballot and totaled 23 points, placing him well ahead of Texas A&M quarterback Kenny Hill, who placed second with 14 points (and two first-place votes). Hill’s 511 yards passing in A&M’s rout of South Carolina led to the sophomore being named on seven ballots.

Actually surprised that ESPN even noticed. Most of the coverage I saw on the wrap-up shows over the weekend basically gushed over Gurley and said it was his to lose........

True, plus on their bottom-of-the-screen scroll on Saturday they were listing Newby's stat line instead of Ameer's haha

lets slow down and let him get a few games under his belt........gotta love the kid, but its a long season.

you are talking about Kenny hill, right?

there is the normal handful of guys on the watch list, they all have to play well against top competition as the season goes on, to be serious Heisman contenders, Ameer is hopefully one of those guys.......one game is no measure of any of these guys....just sayin, but good to be excited.

Fixed that for you. Lets be honest. This will be given to a QB on a top 4 team, unless Gurley or Ameer can carry their teams into a playoff spot & even then it will be close voting with whatever QB ESPN is pushing for.

I see what you're saying, but it's hard to argue with Newton, RGIII, Manziel and Winston the last 4 years. I think they proved with RGIII that it's not necessary to be on a playoff team in the SEC. If either of the two guy above reach 2k on a 10 win team they'll be in the discussion. Not saying Winston or some newcomer won't light it up and be more deserving still, but the award has been pretty good the last 4 years. (2009 however....)

yeah I was just jesting at the fact that espn has Kenny hill so high after one game. Literally one game. Ameer and the others have at least been good in past seasons too.
