Just curious what the actual purpose of these boards are. Are they a distraction from the actual signal groups? Are they for personnel groupings? Cuz we tend to see the same few signs, so I'm just curious what exactly they are. That's why I think theyre just a distraction from the actual signalers.

I kind of thought they were just there to keep Taylor and Drake from playing with dandelions.... Now that they are both gone, not really sure why they keep using the signs.

Pretty sure the signs are there to indicate a group of plays then they have some guys signing in the exact play from that group.

I just read an interesting article on the stealing of hand signals and playcalls in football. I had no idea it was so prevalent. Auburn has been accused of it twice recently, against FSU in the title game last year and last week against Kansas State. And of course everyone remembers the Patriots scandal.

 

I suspect the boards, along with the multiple hand-signalers NU uses all work to send in the play call and confuse any prying eyes. I'd like to see one of the local reporters ask Pelini about this though.
