Michigan State Preparations

Asked if the Huskers gave away victory last year against MSU, Pelini: "That’s kind of a cop out. That’s not giving Michigan State credit."

Pelini shows class in saying it wasn't just Nebraska giving away last season's game. Gives Michigan State due credit. #Huskers

Connor Cook can throw into "tight windows" and his receivers do a good job of keeping plays alive, Pelini said. #Huskers

The honest answer is yes of course we did, and Sparty had little to nothing to do with most of those turnovers, but that's a good response from Pelini. No need to give them any bulletin board material.

"We've run the football on them for three years. We beat this football team the past two years," Pelini said following last year's 41-28 defeat. "They're a quality football team. But we've run the football on them before, and we'll run it on them again."

"I think they're going to run what they've been running all season," Armstrong said. "It worked for them last year and they won the Big Ten by just playing their basic defense - they don't change for anybody. At the same time we just have to realize we have to run our stuff and get yards. At the end of the day it's all about our offense and what we do and how we achieve it."

Dantonio said he expects defensive linemen Damon Knox and James Kittredge to practice this week, but he stopped short of saying they would play for certain against the Cornhuskers.

"We won't really be sure until we see them work this week,'' Dantonio said Sunday night, "but I anticipate them practicing. We are pretty much up to speed.
"I think we'll be at full capacity this week, but those two guys you mentioned (Knox, Kittredge), I'm not sure.''
Knox was a projected starter at defensive tackle who suffered an undisclosed injury prior to the start of fall drills.
Kittredge was the No. 3 defensive tackle before suffering an injury against Jacksonville State in the Aug 29 season opener.

It's true, NU had five turnovers last year that weren't all forced. But it's also true Connor Cook was throwing third down lasers to win the game. Hard to argue MSU wouldn't have found another way to win if they hadn't been gifted the turnovers. I agree with Pelini: it's a cop-out to claim MSU only won because of turnovers.

The way I look at it, we had the "chance" to win it but gave the ball away too many times. That doesn't mean we would have won, just that we would have had the chance.

I think the team needs to take comfort and motivation from that. They aren't overly more athletic than us. They don't have better schemes or better coaches. They simply capitalized on our mistakes and good teams do that. We need to turn that around and make sure we don't make those mistakes and force them to make them this year.
