Scouting Rhode Island

Rhode Island comes into Saturdays game with a 2-0 record following wins over Pace and UMass-Lowell last weekend. The Rams are coached by Dan Hurley, who is in his third year at URI after turning around the Wagner program in two seasons. The son of legendary coach Bob Hurley Sr., Dan helped Wagner win 25 games in his final season at the school. URI, which was picked to finished sixth in the Atlantic-10 preseason poll, returns seven of their top eight scorers from a team that went 14-18. The returnees are led by sophomore guard E.C. Matthews, who averaged 14.6 points per game en route to being named Atlantic-10 Co-Rookie of the Year and senior Gilvydas Biruta, who averaged 10.6 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Matthews was a second-team preseason All-Atlantic 10 pick, while Biruta was a third-team pick. Sophomore Hassan Martin anchors the inside, as he has averaged 19.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in their two wins so far.

While the whole "perception" issue is being discussed at length in the football forum, I was surprised to read that Miles is only 5 games above .500 at Nebraska.

(certainly he inherited suspect talent and got stuck in a very competitive league; but I would have guessed his local record was better than that).

No mistake, I'm a huge Miles supporter and think he has done extremely well extremely fast.........BUT it goes to show how perception influences things.

There is such a positive attitude and outlook on the whole program that (if one ONLY looked at the w/l record) might not be warranted.

But again, getting to the Dance and finishing strong (last 2 games not withstanding) can elevate perception mightily.

Makes one wonder how MUCH things would change if Bo won a big national game and/or a conference championship.

Don't know what difference it makes, but I have Directv and there is no channel 636. My Directv schedule has the game on channel 639 and the huskers dot com schedule shows the game on 639 as well.

You're correct. I may or may not have spent too much time at a bar last night and then quickly wrote this after I got home.
