The current playoff and how to make it better.

OK so we do have a playoff now which is probably a good thing. However there is an obvious problem with the format. You have 4 slots and 5 power conferences. This means that even if the lowly big 12 had their act together, someone is getting left out. I think the committee pretty much got this thing right. They ended up with 4 undisputed conference champs duking this thing out. However with respect to the format there is an elephant in the room. And that is this fact: if either Baylor or TCU were in this thing they would legitimately have a shot to take it all. I can see Baylor or TCU beating bama, fsu, oregon, or tosu. This at least to me gives creedence to the argument that there should be 6 teams in the playoff. This could be done with 2 play in games. In fact it could be argued that 8 teams should be in. We have quality teams, MSU, Auburn, Miss St, Old Miss who could win it all.

The one thing that i would like to figure out is, that it is such a gauntlet for those teams who play in the 8 team round robbin. Thats three more games. Unless you take away some of the Pre-Conference games i dont see how you convince playing college ball into february or justify some teams playing 16 games. You would almost need to eliminate all Conference Title games and just have an outright winner based on W/L. Then those winners get an automatic birth in the final 8 plus 3 wild cards picked for whatever dam reason i dont know its to late to try and figure it out.

I don't see the issue with 16 games. Div II national champ will have played at least 15 games? For only two teams, that will be 15 games. FBS has larger rosters, more budget/resources/etc so it should be feasible. Only valid argument I really see is the scholarship limits when injuries hit. Increase the limit a bit and it's fine. I hate tOSU but I love the way their 3rd string QB played yesterday....

I dont think they got it quite right. Youll never convince me that Florida St is one of the top 4. Theyre not even top 5 in my opinion. If they dont guarantee conference champs based on "we want the best 4" and eye test, then theres no way Florida St deserves to be in there. Handful of plays from bein 7-5 against the worst schedule of all the top 6 teams. Their only argument is that theyre undefeated and the defending champs. Which is garbage. Oh, and the "well. When they bring their a game...." Well they havent brought their Agame all frickin year. Maybe this is just who they are.

I think they should play all bowl games first like they used to be played. Remember when most bowl games were important? Writers would come up with complex win, lose, win big, etc for teams to end up with the top ten slots. After the BCS, the only bowl game that was important was the Championship game.

We should have the bowl games played. The arguments over who are the best four should be less after the bowl games. At least the top 4 teams would be more apparent in my opinion. The first playoffs for the four teams should be in mid January and the final championship game played on the day before the Super Bowl.

Only four teams would be tied in football in January and those schools would get millions in TV revenue. There may be more than four contenders after the bowl games are played but it will always be less controversial than picking the top four before any bowl games are played.

They have wins over #12, #17, and #21.

OSU has wins over #8, #18 and #25. They have a huge blowout win over Wisconsin but they also have a really lousy loss. How are those not comparable?

An undefeated Power 5 team deserves to be in no matter what and it's hilarious that you think otherwise, especially because you would never stop bitching if we were the ones this season that got left out undefeated because our schedule sucked ass.

I don't like 8. Waters down the rest of the season more than I'd like and adds 3 extra games for those that reach final 2 (that's like a whole extra month of games). Regardless of where you make the cut-off the team that just misses is usually going to have a gripe. Sort of worked out this year with a decent pool to field 5 through 8 but at the same time while Baylor and TCU have a gripe, I don't think Miss. State or Michigan State deserved to make a playoff. Why reward them at #7 and #8 to get to a playoff? 4 is a good number for football...a Football Final Four.
