Tim Beck to Ohio State

Recommended Posts

How many more people will basically make a post that says that Meyer doesn't know what he is doing?

I wish that Porn Stars had message boards...so I could go post there and tell them how they are f****** all wrong.

You be pretty crazy to walk into OSU right now wanting to change anything.

Meyer may not be endorsing any or all playcalls, but he is endorsing Tim Beck as a football coach.

You're right. You'd have to be a moron to come in there and change things. Beck's imprint will be very minor IMO. Beck is there to get an education. What exactly is he going to teach? I'll wait for your answer to that. Please, don't be vague.

You'd also have to be a moron to pay a guy $550K so you can give him an education and get nothing in return.

So.........

Again I ask. Again.

What does he bring to the table?

What is Beck going to teach the Ohio St. Offense?

Really basic question. Really.

You've dodged it once now Guy Chamberlain. As for you Teachercd, I'm not sure if you're talking to me or not, but I literally said the opposite. Urban Meyer knows exactly what he's doing. He's already a coaching legend in my books. So again.

Again.

I ask.

What does Beck bring to the table? What will Beck do for that offense?

I'm trying not to be a prick (it's my nature). I'd love to hear what both of your answers are. Your so adamant about this yet, I see no response to the question. Why?

True, the ball is not in my court on this. So I'm not dodging anything.

Tim Beck will bring to the table his coaching experience, and impart it to the Ohio State offense under the watchful eye of Urban Meyer and others.

Just like any other coach Urban Meyer could have hired, but didn't.

Tim Beck will not be imparting his coaching experience under the watchful eye of Bo Pelini.

Maybe that means something. Maybe not.

But at some point you gotta consider the possibility that Urban Meyer knows more about football coaching than you do.

What in the hell is happening here? I've ACKNOWLEDGED IT repeatedly.

I've literally called the guy a legend! Holy crap. The man wins national championships everywhere he goes. What more can I say?

I simply asked what does Tim Beck bring to the Ohio St. offense? What will he teach the offensive players? What skills do you believe he brings to the job?

I've given atleast 20 reasons why I don't think Beck brings anything to that job. I'm just asking why you guys think Meyer made the right hire?

Is the answer seriously because you think Meyer is a good coach? Ok.....we agree. So what makes Beck a good coach? What does he bring to Ohio States offense?

Ahem:

There are ten individuals who have worked under Meyer that have gone on to be head coaches at the FBS level at some capacity, while another three coach at the FCS level. They are:
Steve Addazio, Boston College (Florida OL/OC under Meyer)
Gary Andersen, Wisconsin (Utah DL under Meyer)
Tim Beckman, Illinois (DC at Bowling Green under Meyer)
Gregg Brandon, Bowling Green, now OC at New Mexico State (OC at Bowling Green under Meyer)
Doc Holliday, Marshall (Safeties coach at Florida under Meyer)
Dan McCarney*, North Texas (DL at Florida under Meyer)
Dan Mullen, Mississippi State (OC at Florida under Meyer)
Mike Sanford, UNLV, now HC at Indiana State (OC at Utah under Meyer)
Charlie Strong, Texas (DC at Florida under Meyer)
Kyle Whittingham, Utah (DC at Utah under Meyer)
Everett Withers, James Madison (DC at Ohio State under Meyer)
Jay Hill, Weber State (GA at Utah under Meyer)

Add Tom Herman to that list, and you can see the guy knows how to pick coaches. 10 guys in 13 years have gone on to be head coaches. Beck worked with Ed Warriner at KU, and created the best offense in the history of the school, with 2 and 3 star guys. Beck knows how to work a passing game, when given a QB that can throw. That KU offense with a guy like Joe Ganz would have been lethal. It's no secret that he had handcuffs in this offense, and Bo wanted to keep a running threat at QB versus a thrower, just like he did with Watson.

I don't know if you have ever been on a coaching staff(trust me, if you have not, it makes no difference at all)...I have been on them in different ways (insert sex joke here) I have been on as a new dork (old term for penis from the movie Porky's) where I did not know a thing, I have been on them as a guy with experience, I have been on them as a guy with lots of experience but having to take on knew duties and I have been the HC that has had to dish out assignments.

You ask, what will he bring to the table...everything he has ever learned. I don't think you actually understand your question, I think you are either trying to rip on Beck or you are claiming that Meyer knows everything about offense. Maybe I am wrong and you are really just asking...

It is a new set of eyes, it is new experiences, it is old experiences...I mean, are you asking if he is going to invent some new forward pass? Probably not.

I have had guys on my sidelines that have had years and years of coaching experience that sucked...I have had guys that had never coached before, ever, and came up to me during a game and said "Hey, I think you should try this, I think it will hit" and it did.

Maybe my answer sucks...I have no idea...but you asked "why"...I had a coaching class I took...the teacher was stud coach at the high school ranks...he said "I paid 600 dollars for a coaching video on the run and shoot offense, in the end, I only used one play out of the entire video, but it worked, almost all the time and it was worth it, even though my wife thought I was crazy"

Sometimes what seems like a crappy investment to others is a great investment to someone else. So, what does he bring? I think he brings exactly what Meyer is looking for...Like you said, a coaching legend...a coaching legend went and hired him. Meyer doesn't strike me as a guy that is doing anyone a favor...for no reason. The last thing I would say is this, NU just hired a guy with a totally average record, but, we sure think he adds a ton of value.

Soooooo..... Michael Phelps should hire a 23 yr old lifeguard to watch him swim...??? new set of eyes???

Meyer's goal is to bring in players with the ability to play right away........he doesn't look for guy who need redshirted........which can help answer the question "how did Meyer just win the title with a third string quarterback?". At Ohio State, Beck and Warriner will team up once again, which they did quite well at Kansas under Mangino. Meyer's strategy doesn't seem to involve recruiting guys who need as much "development". And Meyer has a strength and conditioning guy he's know for years.......brought him to Ohio State from Florida. Coaching circles can be tight, which is why there is something to Urban Meyer shaking his head at Nebraska's moves.

While i respect Meyer, he really has no idea why Bo and Solich where fired. He seems to think they were both fired for the W/L record. He isnt accustom to a university the demands you represent them in a positive light. Solich and his personal relationships where not painting NU in a positive light. Bo and his brothers actions did not represent the university in a positive manner. While a Meyer is a great coach, common sense isnt his strong area.

I am glad you brought that up...there have been MANY MANY elite athletes that have hired coaches/trainers that were lesser athletes to help them out.

Tiger Woods has had many golf coaches that never won a tourney let alone majors, yet, they coach him.

Tons of the best tennis players in the world are coached by guys that never did "much" (Pat McEnroe is a big time coach)

Mike Riley is considered a QB guru yet I think he played DB in college

Do you think that Phelps swim coach has more gold medals than him? Or do you think he has way less.

Yes, a new set of eyes a new set of experiences. Why are you acting like Beck was hired from the communications department at AOL.

As far as what will he do? He will follow the practice plans, like all assistant coaches do, then he will break down film of practice, then he will decided what areas still need to be worked on.

Is the answer seriously because you think Meyer is a good coach? Ok.....we agree. So what makes Beck a good coach? What does he bring to Ohio States offense?

Recruiting, recruiting, recruiting.

If you remember, Beck was always considered one of the hardest workers in general, and best recruiters on Bo's staff. His Texas connections were prized.

It's why folks are disappointed when we don't get Steele or Orgeron (whether or not Orgeron, for example, would be a good fit here). It's why LSU goes after both and Harbaugh courts Vince Marrow.

Ohio State's offense and quarterbacks are in perfectly good hands under Urban Meyer, who has another OC who will call plays. Beck himself is a creative offensive mind and not all that terrible at Nebraska, either.

Urban is smart not to miss a chance at a good recruiter with plenty of experience. It's a good hire for them.

Another good answer...and I am sure that some people will say "OSU doesn't need more good recruiters" the thing is...teams on top stay on top by getting more and more good recruits!

Holy sh#t! An answer! Someone gave an answer to a simple question. Hallelujah!

That's better than nothing.

Haha, yep. Try telling Urban Meyer he's already trying hard enough at recruiting :)

Ha! Exactly...

This thread has taken a turn...for no reason at all. The hottest coach in America (not looks, that is Riley) just went out and hired a former NU coach...just be happy for the guy.

Who said I wasn't happy for him. Words cannot express how happy I am that Tim Beck was hired by Ohio St. Ohio St. is the national champion, they'll be fine with or without Beck. As I said, I don't think Beck will have much influence.

At least Zoogies had an answer to a simple freaking question. You've skirted around it for a whole 15 hours now.

Ridiculous.
