We made the ? category.

WINNERS?

Nebraska. Mike Riley is a great guy who may turn out to be great coach in Lincoln, where it is far easier to win than at Oregon State. But he’s a 61-year-old guy in unfamiliar territory, and the best stretch of his coaching career was 2006-09 – basically ancient history in 2015. We’ll see.

Taking a job because you need one is one thing, taking a job that actually fascinates you is another. I am a grumpy old man, well according to some on here, but I take on new things all the time. If it is exciting and you want to do it, age will not be a factor as long as you are in good shape. Mike seems to be, I know things can change quickly, but he truly seems excited about this job and seems to be bringing excitement to the staff and the recruiting side.

He has a far better product to sell than he ever has before. At his age, this is a big step, much easier to finish out at Oregon State where not much was expected. Jumping to this program, shows there is fire in his belly. He wants to try and win with all the right tools. One last serious hurrah to make a better name for himself. I admire him for taking this job. I look forward to meeting him this spring. I followed him some at Oregon State, where he amazed me quite a few times.

This is a win win for Mike and Nebraska. NC's still remain doubtful, but being highly respected by the media, is going to help in many ways, recruiting maybe the biggest. Very excited to see what he does in the next few years.

Go Big Red!!!

Pat Forde is a tool. This article is nothing more than one idiots opinion. Mississippi State listed as big winner for keeping Mullen, Colorado State listed as loser for not getting their first choice of Narduzzi but rather getting 2nd choice, Bobo the OC from Georgia, with the reason being he won't stick around long. I guess their screwed no matter who they get. Oregon State listed as winner for RIley leaving and Anderson replacing him........I guess it's not just Huskerboard posters that can't differentiate between a brand and the ability of a coach. Did I mention Pat Forde is a tool?

Yeah, how could you fault Colo State for losing out to Pitt on Narduzzi? It's a power five gig. And pays more. No way Colo State can compete with that.

As for Pat Forde, yeah, some would say he's a tool. But others would say he's an asshat. I say both.

Of course it's a winner? I've followed Riley and Oregon State for the better part of a decade. I'm absolutely ecstatic he's our new coach. However, I totally get being in the winner? category. First of all, Riley has had as good of if not better opportunities in the past and he's passed on them. Why now? Second, he's rounding the corner on SS age pretty fast. How long does he want to coach? It's one thing to take on new things as we get older, but it's entirely another to basically start over doing what you've done for so many years at the age of 61. He's making a big gamble on his legacy here. If things don't work out, he won't be remembered for the fine seasons he had at Oregon State. He'll be remembered as another coach who couldn't cut it at Nebraska. At his age, this is more than likely his last gig.

Was just watching ESPN since I have the day off and on their college football recruiting show they basically said while Riley is the complete opposite of Pelini they didn't necessarily see him taking the program to a national championship level. Ouch.

They didn't see Ohio State winning the National Championship either.

They didn't see fewer than 3 teams from the SEC making the playoffs, too.

No one saw OSU doing what they did. OSU had all of the pieces of the puzzle there though namely in the recruiting classes they put together.

They have told us constantly for years that the SEC is going to dominate for ever because nobody can even come close to competing with them.

Well, theyre puttin the cart way ahead of the horse. We need to get us a BigTen championship first and foremost. While we all want to say we're still Nebraska, the hard truth is that there's simply no room for national championship talk at this point.
