Sorry if this has already been posted and if so go ahead and join it with that one.

I think an early signing period is a great idea and signing commits in December will save schools a bunch of money if they don't have to spend half their time flying around coddling athletes who have already committed to keep other teams from stealing them.

There's also a proposal that the athlete can drop the commitment if the coach leaves and that seems reasonable as well.

This should be a no-brainer... a commitment should be just that... if your not ready to commit fully to a school, don't announce it..

And if they do want to commit and not have coaches from other schools ringing their phone off the hook , they should be able to do that in December,.... freeing the coaches to recruit someone else instead of worrying that some school is going to steal them away.

I really do not think it will change anything unless they can sign when they want. Billy Bob decides in June he wants to go to Nebraska, sign the paper, done deal. If it is just an earlier date, does not change anything, just moves the date up, same pressure from other coaches. Eventually the later date will be done away with. I think they should be able to sign during the summer and it is locked in. I also agree with the coach leaving that recruited them, they can leave to. That is only fair.

Just another day. The wolves will be at the door earlier.
