ISO: Bar Appliances

Redux

Recommended Posts

My buddy and I are in the process of buying a bar. Looking to save money wherever we can so used appliances at first will be our plan. These are things we will need:

Ice Maker machine

Soda Dispensing Gun/machine

Tables/Chairs/Stools

If anybody has a line on any used equipment or any info on an auction where stuff like this would be up for bidding hit me up.

I would check Omaha/Lincoln craigslist too. You will sometimes find bars/restaurants posting items for sale.

Are you taking over one of the existing bars in Geneva? I spent a lot of time in Shickley when I was younger.

Second this idea. I see stuff liek that all the time on CL. You might even hit up the businesses for sale. There are bars and restaurants for sale on there quite often. While the ads might not expressly say they'd sell specific items it wouldn't hurt to ask if they'd part with them.

Agree with Craigslist. Lots of restaurant equipment on there. You can use a CL search tool like searchtempest.com, dailylister.com, etc to search nationally, by distance, ...

The local Habitat for Humanity Restore out here gets a lot of used restaurant equipment. Worth a check with the ones in Omaha/Lincoln.

A lot of restaurants that have loans will close by defaulting on taxes. Delinquent taxes & tax liens are public record. Most state & larger city/county governments have a searchable list of this information online. Could try looking through there to find auctions or restaurants that may be willing to part with equipment cheap.

Also contact the Pepsi/Coke distributor. Sometimes you can get a great deal on used soda equipment through them. Along the same lines, you could call the large food distributors (Sysco/US Foods) in Omaha and see if they know of any restaurants about to close... Pretty amazing what you can get of of sales staff & it's a small community.

Good luck!

If you are opening a bar, you will definitely want to read "Raise the Bar" from Jon Taffer. I am sure it's a great read for bar-owners and other business owners.

Basically, to be a good owner of a bar:

1. Don't drink on the job

2. Keep the bar clean

3. Make sure your bartenders don't over pour and give out a ton of free drinks.

4. Try to serve decent food, as this will keep people at the bar longer.
