B1G Men's Conference Tournament Projections / Discussion

Keeping in mind, with the B1G 10 Tournament being our only chance to make the tournament. Which is better?

Of course a 10 seed would be ideal, but the way our schedule sets up along with Minn and Michigan, it is more likely we'd either be 9th or 11th.

Being the 11th seed:

Having to play on the first day, limited depth so more tired players toward the end.

Being the 9 seed:

Having one less game to play, but Wisconsin in the Quarterfinals

*Miles has said that it is crucial to avoid the play-in (bottom-4) games on Wednesday.

I'm more inclined to think that 11 would actually be better as we avoid Wisconsin as long as possible. Our depth is an issue though. What does everyone else think?

FYI:

Michigan has the tie-breaker over Nebraska (head-to-head)

MInnesota currently holds the tie-breaker over Nebraska (this may change as it is based on record vs the top team since head-to-head is 1-1)

With Northwestern winning today (4 in a row), Nebraska, Minnesota, and Northwestern all have 5 wins. (For the 10, 11, and 12 spots)

The good news is with a three tie we have the first tiebreaker so in this scenario we would be 10. Minnesota has Penn State at home and Northwestern plays Michigan so we probably need at least one more win regardless.

Minnesota plays Michigan State at the same time that we play OSU tomorrow (Thursday). If Minnesota loses, it puts us in the driver's seat on a 2-way tie-breaker with just them.

Nebraska Seeding Scenarios with 1 game left.

10 Seed (No play-in game)

We would win in a 3 way tie.

Nebraska wins vs MD

AND

Minnesota loses vs Penn State

AND

Northwestern loses at Iowa

11 Seed (Play-in game - Wed. evening tip time)

We win the tie-breaker in either case.

Nebraska Wins AND Northwestern loses (Tiebreaker - Head to Head)

OR

Nebraska Wins AND Minnesota loses (Tiebreaker - Record against top team with a win - which would be a Nebraska win against Maryland in this case)

12 Seed (Play-in game - Wed. mid afternoon tip time)

Nebraska loses

OR

Minnesota and Northwestern both win

FYI - it is not guaranteed that Penn State is 13 yet, if Penn State loses at Minnesota and Rutgers beats Michigan (Rutgers has tie-breaker)

Northwestern lost vs Iowa today.

If Minnesota wins - and Neb win, we'll be the 11 seed.

So if Minnesota loses tomorrow vs Penn State / Neb. wins / we could be the 10 seed.

Either way, we'll know before we tip off -- instead of No Sit Sunday - it could be No Play-in Game Sunday.
