Mavric Posted February 24, 2015 Share Posted February 24, 2015 The title isn't exactly a ringing endorsement.... Bubba Starling was once committed to play football and baseball for Nebraska. But after being drafted in the first round of the MLB draft by the Kansas City Royals — his hometown team — Starling elected to start his minor league baseball career. That was in 2011. After three seasons in the minors, Starling has continued to struggle at the plate. But that hasn't stopped the Royals organization from maintaining faith in the 22-year-old. "Bubba’s going to be just fine,” Royals GM Dayton Moore told the Kansas City Star. “He can play defense as good as anybody we have on our team right now. And he can really throw. There’s only one guy on the team that throw better than Bubba Starling, or as well, and that’s (MLB shortstop) Alcides Escobar.” If his offensive numbers come around, it could mean big things for Kansas City, whose Class AAA affiliate is the Omaha Storm Chasers. But that's a big "if" at this point. Starling hit .218 last season in High Class A with nine home runs, 54 RBIs and 17 stolen bases. He struck out 150 times in 549 plate appearances. But the former Husker quarterback commit hasn't given up on himself. OWH Quote Link to comment

He's played in rookie ball, Low Class A and High Class A in his three seasons, but his batting average has dropped each year. Starling hit .218 last season in High Class A Yikes. It is nice that he is compared to current Royals in regards to defense and arm strength. However, if you can't hit in Class A, that isn't promising for MLB. I'm family friends with the Starlings, and I really hope for the best. It just doesn't look good. Quote Link to comment

His numbers for the last couple months were a lot better. If he picks up from there, he should progress. Quote Link to comment
